"When you come to a shepherd, call him three times. If he answers (all well and good), otherwise drink (milk from the flock) without taking advantage. And when you come to a garden call the owner of the garden three times. If he answers (all well and good), otherwise eat (from the produce of the garden) without taking advantage."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ عَلَى رَاعٍ فَنَادِهِ ثَلاَثَ مِرَارٍ فَإِنْ أَجَابَكَ وَإِلاَّ فَاشْرَبْ فِي غَيْرِ أَنْ تُفْسِدَ وَإِذَا أَتَيْتَ عَلَى حَائِطِ بُسْتَانٍ فَنَادِ صَاحِبَ الْبُسْتَانِ ثَلاَثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ أَجَابَكَ وَإِلاَّ فَكُلْ فِي أَنْ لاَ تُفْسِدَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ said: "When one of you comes to a wall and wants to eat, let him call out 'O owner of the wall' three times. If he answers, then he can eat; otherwise, he should eat. And when one of you passes by a camel and wants to drink its milk, let him call out 'O owner of the camel' or 'O herdsman of the camel'. If he answers, then he can drink; otherwise, he should drink. And hospitality lasts for three days, and whatever is added is considered as charity."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمْ حَائِطًا فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَأْكُلَ فَلْيُنَادِ يَا صَاحِبَ الْحَائِطِ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَإِذَا مَرَّ أَحَدُكُمْ بِإِبِلٍ فَأَرَادَ أَنْ يَشْرَبَ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا فَلْيُنَادِ يَا صَاحِبَ الْإِبِلِ أَوْ يَا رَاعِيَ الْإِبِلِ فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَشْرَبْ وَالضِّيَافَةُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ فَمَا زَادَ فَهُوَ صَدَقَةٌ

[AI] Narrated by the Prophet ﷺ : "When you come upon a wall, call out to its owner three times. If they respond, then do not harm the wall. If they do not respond, then take from it without causing harm. And when you come upon a shepherd, call out to them three times. If they respond, then do not drink from their livestock. If they do not respond, then drink without causing harm. And the Prophet ﷺ said: 'Hospitality lasts for three days, and anything beyond that is considered as charity.'"

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَتَيْتَ عَلَى حَائِطٍ فَنَادِ صَاحِبَهُ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ أَجَابَكَ وَإِلَّا فَكُلْ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ لا تُفْسِدَ وإِذَا أَتَيْتَ عَلَى رَاعٍ فَنَادِهِ ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ فَإِنْ أَجَابَكَ وَإِلَّا فَاشْرَبْ مِنْ غَيْرِ أَنْ لا تُفْسِدَ قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُاللهِ ﷺ الضِّيَافَةُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ فَمَا بَعْدُ فَصَدَقَةٌ

"When you come to a shepherd, call him three times. If he answers (all well and good), otherwise drink (milk from the flock) without taking advantage. [AI] On the authority of the Prophet ﷺ, he said, "When one of you comes to a camel shepherd, let them call out 'O camel shepherd!' three times. If he responds, then good. If not, then let them milk and drink without burdening him. And when one of you comes to a wall, let them call out 'O people of the wall!' three times. If they respond, then good. If not, then let them eat without burdening them." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ also said, "Hospitality lasts for three days, and whatever exceeds that, it becomes charity."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «إِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى رَاعِي إِبِلٍ فَلْيُنَادِي يَا رَاعِيَ الْإِبِلِ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَحْلِبْ وَلْيَشْرَبْ وَلَا يَحْمِلَنَّ وَإِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى حَائِطٍ فَلْيُنَادِ ثَلَاثًا يَا أَصْحَابَ الْحَائِطِ فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَلَا يَحْمِلَنَّ» قَالَ وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الضِّيَافَةُ ثَلَاثَةُ أَيَّامٍ فَمَا زَادَ فَصَدَقَةٌ»

[AI] The Prophet, ﷺ , said: "If one of you comes to a shepherd, let him call out 'O camel herder!' three times. If the shepherd answers, then let him milk and drink [from the camels], but do not carry [any of the camels]. And if one of you comes to a wall, let him call out 'O owner of the wall!' three times. If the owner answers, then let him eat, but do not carry [anything from the wall]. This narration was narrated by Sa'id bin Iyas Al-Jurayri, who is reliable, except that he became confused towards the end of his life. Also, the hearing of Yazid bin Harun from him was narrated after his confusion. Hammad bin Salamah also narrated this from Al-Jurayri, but he is not considered strong. And it was narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri that the Prophet, ﷺ , said something different from this."

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى رَاعٍ فَلْيُنَادِ يَا رَاعِيَ الْإِبِلِ ثَلَاثًا فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَحْلِبْ وَلْيَشْرَبْ وَلَا يَحْمِلَنَّ وَإِذَا أَتَى أَحَدُكُمْ عَلَى حَائِطٍ فَلْيُنَادِ ثَلَاثًا يَا صَاحِبَ الْحَائِطِ فَإِنْ أَجَابَهُ وَإِلَّا فَلْيَأْكُلْ وَلَا يَحْمِلَنَّ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ سَعِيدُ بْنُ إِيَاسٍ الْجُرَيْرِيُّ وَهُوَ مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ إِلَّا أَنَّهُ اخْتَلَطَ فِي آخِرِ عُمْرِهِ وَسَمَاعُ يَزِيدَ بْنِ هَارُونَ عَنْهُ بَعْدَ اخْتِلَاطِهِ وَرَوَاهُ أَيْضًا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ عَنِ الْجُرَيْرِيِّ وَلَيْسَ بِالْقَوِيِّ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِخِلَافِ ذَلِكَ

"إذا أتى أحدكم على راع فلينادِ: يا راعىَ الإبل ثلاثًا فإن أجابه، وإلا فليحلبْ ولْيَشربْ، ولا يَحْمِلنّ، وإذا أتى أحدُكم على حائط فلينادِ ثلاثًا، يا صاحبَ الحائط فإن أجابه؟ وإلا فليأكلْ ولا يَحْمِلَنَّ" .

"إذا أتيت على راعى إبلٍ فناد: يا راعى الإبل ثلاثًا، فإن أجابك وإلا فاحلبْ واشرب في غير أن تُفْسِدَ، وإذا أتيت على حائطٍ فناد: يا صاحب الحائط ثلاثًا، فإن أجابك وإلا فكل في غير أن تفسد" .
