[Machine] Solomon son of David, ﷺ , said: "We were given what people were given, and what they were not given, and we learned what people learned, and what they did not know. And we did not find anything better than three words: patience in anger and satisfaction and intent in poverty and wealth, and fear of God in secrecy and openness."

ahmad-zuhd:215ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Wakīʿ > Sufyān > al-Aʿmash > Khaythamah 36

[Machine] Solomon son of David ﷺ said: "We have experienced life, its easiness and its hardships, and we have found that it suffices at its lowest."

ahmad-zuhd:216ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Aḥmad b. Muḥammad b. Ayyūb > Abū Bakr / Ibn ʿAyyāsh > Idrīs b. Wahbb. Munabbih from my father

[Machine] Indeed, the family of David was granted immense kingship, and the wind carried his words and cast them into the ear of Solomon, ﷺ . He said, "So he descended until he reached the field worker and said, 'I have heard your statement, and I only walked to you so that you do not desire what you are not capable of. A single glorification (of Allah) is better for you than what the family of David was granted.' The field worker said, 'May Allah remove your worries as you have removed mine.'"

[Machine] "O my son, just as a thread passes between two stones, and just as a snake enters between two holes, likewise, sin enters between two sales."

[Machine] The prophet Solomon, ﷺ , said, "It is astonishing how a merchant manages to succeed. He swears during the day and sleeps at night."

[Machine] "To Solomon ﷺ , what is the coolest thing? And what is the sweetest thing? And what is the closest thing? And what is the farthest thing? And what is the least thing? And what is the most thing? And what is the most comforting thing and what is the loneliest thing?" He said, "The sweetest thing is the spirit of Allah among His servants, and the coolest thing is the forgiveness of Allah towards His servants, and the forgiveness of the servants towards each other, and the most comforting thing is when the spirit is in the body, and the loneliest thing is when the spirit is taken away from the body, and the least thing is certainty, and the most thing is doubt, and the closest thing is the hereafter to this world, and the farthest thing is this world from the hereafter."

ahmad-zuhd:222ʿAbdullāh > Bī > ʿAbdullāh b. Numayr > al-Aʿmash > Khaythamah > Ḥamzah > Shahr b. Ḥawshab

[Machine] The Angel of Death entered upon Solomon and began to look at one of his companions, keeping his gaze fixed upon him. When he left, the man said, "Who is this?" Solomon said, "This is the Angel of Death, may ﷺ ." The man said, "I saw him looking at me as if he intended to take me." Solomon asked, "What do you desire?" The man said, "I want the wind to carry me to India." So Solomon called for the wind and it carried him to India. Then the Angel of Death came to Solomon and said, "Were you continuously looking at one of my companions?" Solomon said, "I was amazed by him. I was ordered to take his soul in India while he was with you."

ahmad-zuhd:223ʿAbdullāh > Bī > Ibn Numayr > al-Aʿmash > Khaythamah

[Machine] The Angel of Death came to Solomon, ﷺ , and he had a friend. Solomon said to him, "Why do you come to the people of the house and take them all, but you don't take anyone from their family?" He replied, "I don't know who I will take from you. I am under the Throne, and a scroll is thrown to me containing names."

[Machine] "Solomon bin David, ﷺ , said to his son: 'My dear son, how ugly is sin with its dwelling, and how uglier is going astray after guidance, and how uglier is so and so, and uglier than that is a man who used to worship his Lord but abandoned the worship of his Lord.'"
