ahmad-zuhd:214ʿAbdullāh > Bī > ʿAbd al-Raḥman b. Mahdī > Sufyān b. ʿUyaynah > Ibn Abū Najīḥ

[Machine] Solomon son of David, ﷺ , said: "We were given what people were given, and what they were not given, and we learned what people learned, and what they did not know. And we did not find anything better than three words: patience in anger and satisfaction and intent in poverty and wealth, and fear of God in secrecy and openness."  

الزهد لأحمد:٢١٤حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أبِي حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنُ مَهْدِيٍّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ قَالَ

قَالَ سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ دَاوُدَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ أُوتِينَا مَا أُوتِيَ النَّاسُ وَمَا لَمْ يُؤْتَوْا وَعَلِمْنَا مَا عَلِمَ النَّاسُ وَمَا لَمْ يَعْلَمُوا فَلَمْ نَجِدْ شَيْئًا أَفْضَلَ مِنْ ثَلَاثِ كَلِمَاتٍ الْحِلْمُ فِي الْغَضَبِ وَالرِّضَا وَالْقَصْدُ فِي الْفَقْرِ وَالْغِنَى وَخَشْيَةُ اللَّهِ فِي السِّرِّ وَالْعَلَانِيَةِ
