The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me. He intended to send me with some goods to AbuSufyan to distribute among the Quraysh at Mecca after the conquest. He said: Search for a companion. Then Amr ibn Umayyah ad-Damri came to me and said: I have been told that you are intending to make a journey and are seeking a companion. I said: Yes. He said: I am your companion. I then went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said: I have found a companion. He asked: Who is he? I replied: Amr ibn Umayyah ad-Damri. He said: When you come down to the territory of his people, be careful of him, for a maxim says: If one is your real brother, do not feel safe with him. So we proceeded, and when I reached al-Abwa', he said to me: I have some work with my people at Waddan, so stay here till I come back. I said: Do not lose your way. When he turned his back, I recalled the words of the Prophet ﷺ. So I rode my camel and galloped without stopping. When I reached al-Asafir, he was pursuing me with a group of men. So I galloped and forged ahead of him. When he saw me that I had outstripped him, they returned and he came to me. He said to me: I had some work with my people. I said: Yes. We then went on until we reached Mecca, and I gave the goods to AbuSufyan. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4861)  

دَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَقَدْ أَرَادَ أَنْ يَبْعَثَنِي بِمَالٍ إِلَى أَبِي سُفْيَانَ يَقْسِمُهُ فِي قُرَيْشٍ بِمَكَّةَ بَعْدَ الْفَتْحِ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْتَمِسْ صَاحِبًا قَالَ فَجَاءَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيُّ قَالَ بَلَغَنِي أَنَّكَ تُرِيدُ الْخُرُوجَ وَتَلْتَمِسُ صَاحِبًا قَالَ قُلْتُ أَجَلْقَالَ فَأَنَا لَكَ صَاحِبٌ قَالَ فَجِئْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ قَدْ وَجَدْتُ صَاحِبًا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِذَا وَجَدْتَ صَاحِبًا فَآذِنِّي قَالَ فَقَالَ مَنْ؟ قُلْتُ عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِيُّ قَالَ فَقَالَ إِذَا هَبَطْتَ بِلَادَ قَوْمِهِ فَاحْذَرْهُ؛ فَإِنَّهُ قَدْ قَالَ الْقَائِلُ أَخُوكَ الْبَكْرِيُّ وَلَا تَأْمَنْهُ قَالَ فَخَرَجْنَا حَتَّى إِذَا جِئْتُ الْأَبْوَاءَ فَقَالَ لِي إِنِّي أُرِيدُ حَاجَةً إِلَى قَوْمِي بِوَدَّانَ فَتَلَبَّثْ لِي قَالَ قُلْتُ رَاشِدًا فَلَمَّا وَلَّى ذَكَرْتُ قَوْلَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَشَدَدْتُ عَلَى بَعِيرِي ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ أُوضِعُهُ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُ بَالْأَصَافِرِ إِذَا هُوَ يُعَارِضُنِي فِي رَهْطِهِ قَالَ وَأَوْضَعْتُ فَسَبَقْتُهُ فَلَمَّا رَآنِي قَدْ فُتُّهُ انْصَرَفُوا وَجَاءَنِي قَالَ كَانَتْ لِي إِلَى قَوْمِي حَاجَةٌ قَالَ قُلْتُ أَجَلْ فَمَضَيْنَا حَتَّى قَدِمْنَا مَكَّةَ فَدَفَعْتُ الْمَالَ إِلَى أَبِي سُفْيَانَ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ invited me and wanted to send me with money to Abu Sufyan to distribute it among the Quraish in Mecca after the conquest. He said, "Find a companion." So, 'Amr ibn Umayyah Ad-Damri came to me and said, "I heard that you want to go out and find a companion. I am your companion." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When you find a companion, give me permission." So, I gave him permission and he asked, "Who is it?" I said, "Amr ibn Umayyah Ad-Damri." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When he reaches the land of his people, be cautious of him, for someone has described him to me as being your brother Al-Bakri, so do not trust him." We set out until we reached Al-Abwa. He said, "I have a need with my people, please wait for me." I said, "Hurry back." When he left, I remembered the statement of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, so I tightened my camel's harness, and when I reached the tall palm trees, I saw him opposing me with a group. He said, "I have put it off." I heard him, so when he saw that I was ready to fight, they turned away and came to me. He said, "I had a need with my people." I said, "Alright." We continued until we reached Mecca and I handed over the money to Abu Sufyan.

"عَنْ عَبْدِ الله بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ بْنِ أبِى الْفَغْوَاءِ الْخُزَاعِىِّ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ: بَعَثَنِى النَّبِىُّ ﷺ بِمَالٍ إِلَى أَبِى سُفْيَانَ بْنِ حَرْبٍ يُفَرِّقُهُ في فُقَرَاءِ قُرَيْشٍ وَهُمْ مُشْرِكُونَ يَتَألَّفُهُمْ، فَقَالَ لِى: الْتَمِسْ صَاحِبًا، فَلَقِيتُ عَمْرو بْنَ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِىَّ قَالَ: فَأَنَا أَخْرُجُ مَعَكَ وَأُحْسِنُ صُحْبَتَكَ، فَجِئْتُ النَّبىَّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ الله إِنِّى قَدْ وَجَدْتُ صَاحِبًا، قَالَ: مَنْ؟ قُلْتُ: عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ الضَّمْرِىُّ زَعَمَ أنَّهُ سَيُحْسِنُ صُحْبَتِى قَالَ: فَهُوَ إِذَنْ: فَلَمَّا أَجْمَعَتُ الْمَسِيرَ خَلَا بِىَ دُونَهُ، فَقَالَ: يَا عَلْقَمَةُ إِذَا بَلَغْتَ بِلَادَ بَنِى ضَمْرَةَ فَكُنْ مِنْ أَخِيكَ عَلَى حَذَرٍ، فَإِنِّى قَدْ (ذَكَرْتُ) قَوْلَ الْقَائِلِ: أخُوكَ الْبَكْرِىُّ وَلَا تَأمَنْهُ، فَخَرَجْنَا حَتَّى جِئْنَا الأَبْوَاءَ وَهِىَ بِلَادُ بَنِى ضَمْرَةَ قَالَ عَمْرُو بْنُ أُمَيَّةَ إِنِّى أُرِيدُ أَنْ آتِى بَعْضَ قَوْمِى هَهُنَا لِحَاجَةٍ لِى، قُلْتُ: لَا عَلَيْكَ، فَلَمَّا وَلَّى ضَرَبْتُ بَعِيرِى وَذَكَرْتُ مَا أَوْصَانِى بِهِ النَّبِىُّ ﷺ فَإِذَا هُوَ وَالله قَدْ طَلَعَ بِنَفَرٍ مِنْهُمْ مَعَهُمُ الْقِسِىُّ والنَّبْلُ: فَلَمَّا رَأيْتُهُمْ ضَرَبْتُ بَعِيرِى، فَلَمَّا رآنِى قَد فُتُّ الْقَوْمَ أَدْرَكَنِى، فَقَالَ: جِئْتُ قَوْمِى؟ وَكَانَتْ لِى إلَيْهِمْ حَاجَةٌ، فَقُلْتُ أَجَلْ، فَلَمَّا قَدِمْتُ مَكَّةَ

دَفَعْتُ الْمَالَ إِلَى أَبِى سُفْيَانَ، فَجَعَلَ أَبو سُفْيَانَ يَقُولُ: مَنْ رَأَى أَبرَّ مِنْ هَذَا وَلَا أَوْصَلَ - يَعْنِى النَّبِىَّ ﷺ ؟ إِنَّا نجاهِدُهُ وَنَطْلُبُ دَمَهُ، وَهُوَ يَبْعَثُ إِلَيْنَا بِالصِّلاتِ يَبَرُّنا بِهَا".
