A man came to ‘Ali ؓ and said: O Ameer al-Muʿmineen, I am unable to pay off my contract of manumission; help me, ʿAli ؓ said: Shall I not tell you some words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me, then if you owe debts as great as Mount Seer in dinars, Allah will pay it off for you? He said: Yes indeed. He said: Say: O Allah, suffice me with what You have permitted so that I have no need of what You have forbidden, and make me independent of anyone other than You by Your grace.  

أَتَى عَلِيًّا رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِنِّي عَجَزْتُ عَنْ مُكَاتَبَتِي فَأَعِنِّي فَقَالَ عَلِيٌّ أَلا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ عَلَّمَنِيهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ مِثْلُ جَبَلِ صِيرٍ دَنَانِيرَ لادَّاهُ اللهُ عَنْكَ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ قُلْ اللهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ  

that a Mukatib came to him and said: “Indeed I am not capable of my Kitabah so aid me.” He said: “Should I not teach you words that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ taught me? If you had a debt upon you similar to the mountain of Sir, Allah would fulfill it for you. He said: ‘Say: O Allah, suffice me with Your lawful against Your prohibited, and make me independent of all those besides You (Allāhummakfinī biḥalālika ʿan ḥarāmika, wa aghninī bi faḍlika ʿamman siwāka).’” (Using translation from Tirmidhī 3563)  

أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ عَلَّمَنِيهِنَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ مِثْلُ جَبَلِ صَبِيرٍ دَيْنًا لَأَدَّاهُ اللَّهُ عَنْكَ قُلْ «اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِي بِحَلَالِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِي بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ»  

"أَلا أعلِّمُكَ كلمات لو كان عليك مثل جبلِ صَبِيرٍ دينًا أدَّاه اللَّهُ عنكَ؟ قُلْ: اللَّهمَّ اكفنى بحلالِكَ عن حرامِكَ، وأَغننى بفضلك عمن سواك ".  

" عَنْ أبِى وَائلٍ قَالَ: أَتَى عَلِيّا رَجُلٌ فَقَالَ: يَا أَميرَ الْمُؤْمنيِنَ إِنِّى عَجَزْتُ عَنْ مُكَاتَبَتِى فَأعِنِّى، فَقَالَ: ألاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ كَلِمَاتٍ عَلَّمَنيهِن رسُولُ الله ﷺ لَوْ كَانَ عَلَيْكَ مِثْلُ جَبَلِ صَبِيرٍ دَنَانِيرُ لأدَّاهَا الله عَنكَ؟ قُلْ: اللَّهُمَ اكفِني بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ، وَاغْنِنِى بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ ".
