Malik related to me from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir that Umayma bint Ruqayqa said, "I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with the women who took an oath of allegiance with him in Islam. They said, 'Messenger of Allah! We take a pledge with you not to associate anything with Allah, not to steal, not to commit adultery, not to kill our children, nor to produce any lie that we have devised between our hands and feet, and not to disobey you in what is known.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'In what you can do and are able.' " Umayma continued, "They said, 'Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than ourselves. Come, let us give our hands to you, Messenger of Allah!' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'I do not shake hands with women. My word to a hundred women is like my word to one woman.' "

أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِي نِسْوَةٍ بَايَعْنَهُ عَلَى الإِسْلاَمِ فَقُلْنَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ نُبَايِعُكَ عَلَى أَنْ لاَ نُشْرِكَ بِاللَّهِ شَيْئًا وَلاَ نَسْرِقَ وَلاَ نَزْنِيَ وَلاَ نَقْتُلَ أَوْلاَدَنَا وَلاَ نَأْتِيَ بِبُهْتَانٍ نَفْتَرِيهِ بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَأَرْجُلِنَا وَلاَ نَعْصِيَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ قَالَتْ فَقُلْنَ اللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا هَلُمَّ نُبَايِعْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنِّي لاَ أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ كَقَوْلِي لاِمْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ أَوْ مِثْلِ قَوْلِي لاِمْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ

[Machine] Ibn al-Munkadir heard Ummayyah bint Ruqayyah say, "I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ regarding women. He guided us as much as we were able and made it easy for us. I said, 'Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than our own selves.' I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, pledge allegiance to us.' He said, 'I do not shake hands with women. My words are for a woman are like my words for a hundred women.'"

سَمِعَ ابْنُ الْمُنْكَدِرِ أُمَيْمَةَ بِنْتَ رُقَيْقَةَ تَقُولُ بَايَعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نِسْوَةٍ فَلَقَّنَنَا فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ قُلْتُ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَايِعْنَا قَالَ إِنِّي لَا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ قَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ

"I came to the Prophet with some other Ansari women to give our pledge. We said: 'O Messenger of Allah, we give you our pledge that we will not associate anything with Allah, we will not steal, we will not have unlawful sexual relations, we will not utter slander, fabricating from between our hands and feet, and we will not disobey you in goodness.' He said: 'As much as you can and are able.' We said: 'Allah and His Messenger are more merciful toward us. Com, let us give you our pledge, O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah said: 'I do not shake hands with women. Rather my word to a hundred women is like my word to one woman."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 4181)

أَتَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فِي نِسْوَةٍ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ لِنُبَايِعَهُ فَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ جِئْنَا لِنُبَايِعَكَ عَلَى أَنْ لَا نُشْرِكَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا نَسْرِقَ وَلَا نَزْنِيَ وَلَا نَقْتُلَأَوْلَادَنَا وَلَا نَأْتِيَ بِبُهْتَانٍ نَفْتَرِيهِ بَيْنَ أَيْدِينَا وَأَرْجُلِنَا وَلَا نَعْصِيَكَ فِي مَعْرُوفٍ قَالَتْ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ قَالَتْ قُلْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا بَايِعْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ اذْهَبْنَ فَقَدْ بَايَعْتُكُنَّ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ كَقَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ قَالَتْ وَلَمْ يُصَافِحْ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنَّا امْرَأَةً

"I came to the Prophet with some other Ansari women to give our pledge. [Machine] "I came to the Prophet ﷺ about women whom we marry. He mentioned to us what is in the Quran, that we should not associate anything with Allah. We said, 'Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than ourselves.' We said, 'O Messenger of Allah, won't you shake hands with us?' He replied, 'I do not shake hands with women. My words to a woman are like my words to a hundred women.'"

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي نِسَاءٍ نُبَايِعُهُ فَأَخَذَ عَلَيْنَا مَا فِي الْقُرْآنِ أَنْ لَا نُشْرِكَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا الْآيَةَ قَالَ فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ قُلْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تُصَافِحُنَا؟ قَالَ إِنِّي لَا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ كَقَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ to pledge allegiance to him in a group of women. He stipulated for us what is in the Quran, "Do not steal, do not commit adultery, do not kill your children, and do not bring false accusations that you fabricate." Then he said to us, "Do as much as you are able." We said, "Allah and His Messenger are more merciful to us than ourselves." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, won't you shake hands with us?" He said, "I do not shake hands with women, my statement to a woman is like my statement to one hundred women."

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي نِسْوَةٍ أُبَايِعُهُ فَاشْتَرَطَ عَلَيْنَا مَا فِي الْقُرْآنِ «لَا تَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا تَزْنِينَ وَلَا تَقْتُلْنَ أَوْلَادَكُنَّ وَلَا تَأْتِينَ بِبُهْتَانٍ تَفْتَرِينَهُ» ثُمَّ قَالَ لَنَا «فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ» قُلْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَلَا تُصَافِحُنَا؟ قَالَ «إِنِّي لَا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ كَقَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ»

[Machine] I came to the Prophet ﷺ regarding women, and he said, "Take the pledge not to associate anything with Allah, not to steal, and not to commit adultery." Then he said, "To the best of your ability and within your means." We said, "May Allah and His Messenger be kinder to us than ourselves." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, give us your pledge." He said, "I do not shake hands with women. My statement to a hundred women is the same as my statement to one woman."

أَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي نِسَاءٍ فَقَالَ «تُبَايِعْنَ عَلَى أَنْ لَا تُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا تَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا تَزْنِينَ» الْآيَةُ ثُمَّ قَالَ «فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ» قُلْنَا اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَرْحَمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا قُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَايِعْنَا قَالَ «لَا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنْكُنَّ كَقَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ»

[Machine] She came to the Prophet ﷺ about women, and he said, "Take the pledge that you will not associate anything with Allah, you will not steal, and you will not commit adultery." Then he stopped for a while and then said, "Do as much as you are capable of and able to do." We said, "We beseech Allah and His Messenger for knowledge and mercy, more than we beseech ourselves." We said, "O Messenger of Allah, give us your pledge." He said, "I do not shake hands with women. My pledge is the same for a hundred women as it is for one woman."

أَنَّهَا أَتَتِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فِي نِسَاءٍ فَقَالَ «تُبَايِعْنَ عَلَى أَنْ لَا تُشْرِكْنَ بِاللهِ شَيْئًا وَلَا تَسْرِقْنَ وَلَا تَزْنِينَ» الْآيَةُ ثُمَّ سَكَتَ ثُمَّ قَالَ «فِيمَا اسْتَطَعْتُنَّ وَأَطَقْتُنَّ» فَقُلْنَ اللهُ وَرَسُولُهُ أَعْلَمُ وأرحمُ بِنَا مِنْ أَنْفُسِنَا وَقُلْنَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ بَايِعْنَا قَالَ «إِنِّي لَا أُصَافِحُ النِّسَاءَ إِنَّمَا قَوْلِي لِمِائَةِ امْرَأَةٍ كَقَوْلِي لِامْرَأَةٍ وَاحِدَةٍ»
