[Machine] Umru bin al-Khattab sat next to me and said, "I had a desire not to leave any yellow or white (camels) except that I would divide them, I mean the Kaaba." Shaybah replied, so I said to him, "You had two companions who did not do as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and Abu Bakr did." Umar said, "Those two are the ones I follow."  

الطبراني:٧١٩٦ – حَدَّثَنَا حَفْصُ بْنُ عُمَرَ الرَّقِّيُّ ثنا قَبِيصَةُ بْنُ عُقْبَةَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ح وَحَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو الْخَلَّالُ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ الْعَدَنِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ سُفْيَانَ الثَّوْرِيِّ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ الْأَحْدَبِ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ شَقِيقِ بْنِ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ جَلَسْتُ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ بْنِ عُثْمَانَ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ الْحَرَامِ فَقَالَ

لِي جَلَسَ إِلَيَّ عُمَرُ مَجْلِسَكَ هَذَا فَقَالَ لَقَدْ «هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لَا أَتْرُكَ فِيهَا صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا قَسَّمْتُهَا يَعْنِي الْكَعْبَةَ» قَالَ شَيْبَةُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَكَ صَاحِبَانِ لَمْ يَفْعَلَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ قَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ «هُمَا الْمَرْآنِ أَقْتَدِي بِهِمَا»

(One day) I sat along with Shaiba on the chair inside the Kaʿba. He (Shaiba) said, "No doubt, ʿUmar sat at this place and said, 'I intended not to leave any yellow (i.e. gold) or white (i.e. silver) (inside the Kaʿba) undistributed.' I said (to ʿUmar), 'But your two companions (i.e. The Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr) did not do so.' ʿUmar said, They are the two persons whom I always follow.' "  

البخاري:١٥٩٤ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ حَدَّثَنَا خَالِدُ بْنُ الْحَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ حَدَّثَنَا وَاصِلٌ الأَحْدَبُ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ جِئْتُ إِلَى شَيْبَةَ وَحَدَّثَنَا قَبِيصَةُ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ وَاصِلٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَائِلٍ قَالَ

جَلَسْتُ مَعَ شَيْبَةَ عَلَى الْكُرْسِيِّ فِي الْكَعْبَةِ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ جَلَسَ هَذَا الْمَجْلِسَ عُمَرُ ؓ فَقَالَ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ لاَ أَدَعَ فِيهَا صَفْرَاءَ وَلاَ بَيْضَاءَ إِلاَّ قَسَمْتُهُ قُلْتُ إِنَّ صَاحِبَيْكَ لَمْ يَفْعَلاَ قَالَ هُمَا الْمَرْآنِ أَقْتَدِي بِهِمَا

I sat with Shaiba in this Mosque (Al-Masjid-Al-Haram), and he said, "ʿUmar once sat beside me here as you are now sitting, and said, 'I feel like distributing all the gold and silver that are in it (i.e., the Kaʿba) among the Muslims'. I said, 'You cannot do that.' ʿUmar said, 'Why?' I said, 'Your two (previous) companions (the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr) did not do it. ʿUmar said, 'They are the two persons whom one must follow.'" So Umar said, 'They are the two righteous men, and I will follow their example.'"

أَنْ لَا أَتْرُكَ فِيهَا صَفْرَاءَ وَلَا بَيْضَاءَ إِلَّا قَسَمْتُهَا يَعْنِي الْكَعْبَةَ قَالَ شَيْبَةُ فَقُلْتُ إِنَّهُ كَانَ لَكَ صَاحِبَانِ فَلَمْ يَفْعَلَاهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَبُو بَكْرٍ ؓ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ هُمَا الْمَرْءَانِ أَقْتَدِي بِهِمَا
