أَبُو الْجَعْدِ الضَّمْرِيُّ، عَنْ سَلْمَانَ ؓ

[Machine] "Shall I not guide you to something that will be of great benefit to you?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "A day spent in the way of Allah is better than fasting and praying all night for a month. And whoever dies while actively engaged in the cause of Allah, his deeds will continue to be rewarded, and he will be protected from the trials of the grave."  

الطبراني:٦٠٧٧ – حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ حَمَّادِ بْنِ فَضَالَةَ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا هَارُونُ بْنُ مُوسَى الْفَرْوِيُّ ثنا أَبُو ضَمْرَةَ أَنَسُ بْنُ عِيَاضٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَلْقَمَةَ عَنْ عُبَيْدَةَ بْنِ سُفْيَانَ الْحَضْرَمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْجَعْدِ الضَّمْرِيِّ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ الْفَارِسِيِّ أَنَّهُ مَرَّ عَلَى ابْنِ السِّمْطِ وَهُوَ يُرابِطُ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ فَقَالَ

لَهُ أَلَا أُرَغِّبَنَّكَ فِيمَا أَنْتَ فِيهِ؟ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ جَرَى لَهُ عَمَلُهُ أَوْ أَعْمَالُهُ وَوُقِيَ فِتْنَةَ الْقَبْرِ»

I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: Keeping watch for a day and a night is better (in point of reward) than fasting for a whole month and standing in prayer every night. If a person dies (while, performing this duty), his (meritorious) activity will continue and he will go on receiving his reward for it perpetually and will be saved from the torture of the grave. (Using translation from Muslim 1913a)   

الطبراني:٦١٧٨ – حَدَّثَنَا مُطَّلِبُ بْنُ شُعَيْبٍ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ صَالِحٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ عَنْ أَيُّوبَ بْنِ مُوسَى بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ عَنْ مَكْحُولٍ الدِّمَشْقِيِّ عَنْ شُرَحْبِيلِ بْنِ السِّمْطِ عَنْ سَلْمَانَ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ «رِبَاطُ يَوْمٍ وَلَيْلَةٍ فِي سَبِيلِ اللهِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ صِيَامِ شَهْرٍ وَقِيَامِهِ وَمَنْ مَاتَ مُرَابِطًا جَرَى عَلَيْهِ عَمَلُهُ الَّذِي كَانَ يَعْمَلُ وَأُومِنَ الْفَتَّانَ»
