[Machine] About the statement of Allah ﷻ, "So do not prevent them from marrying their [former] husbands if they agree among themselves on an acceptable basis" (Quran 2:232), Al-Hasan said, “Ma’qil ibn Yasar informed me that it was revealed concerning him. He said, ‘I married a woman off to a man, and he divorced her, then left her until her waiting period had ended. He proposed to her, and I said to him, ‘I married her to you, provided you took care of her and treated her kindly, and then you divorced her. Now you come to propose to her?’ By Allah, she will never return to you.’ He was a good man, and she wanted to go back to him. So Allah revealed this verse, and then I said, ‘Now I will do it, O Messenger of Allah. I will marry her to him.’”

concerning the Verse: 'Do not prevent them' (2.232) Ma'qil bin Yasar told me that it was revealed in his connection. He said, "I married my sister to a man and he divorced her, and when her days of 'Idda (three menstrual periods) were over, the man came again and asked for her hand, but I said to him, 'I married her to you and made her your bed (your wife) and favored you with her, but you divorced her. Now you come to ask for her hand again? No, by Allah, she will never go back to you (again)!' That man was not a bad man and his wife wanted to go back to him. So Allah revealed this Verse: 'Do not prevent them.' (2.232) So I said, 'Now I will do it (let her go back to him), O Messenger of Allah ﷺ."So he married her to him again.

[Machine] About Al-Hasan's statement about Allah's statement, "So do not prevent them from marrying their [former] husbands" [Quran 2:232], Ma'qil ibn Yasar al-Muzani said that this verse was revealed about him. He said, "I married my sister to a man who divorced her. When her waiting period ended, he came to propose to her again. I said to him, 'I married her to you, provided for you, and honored you, and yet you divorced her. Now you come to propose to her? By Allah, she will never go back to you.' He said, 'He was a good man, and the woman wanted to return to him.' Allah then revealed this verse, and I said, 'Now, O Messenger of Allah, I will marry her to him.' Abu Bakr Muhammad ibn Ishaq said, 'In this hadith, there is clear evidence that Allah has given the authority of the marriage contract to the guardians, not the women, even if they are divorcees. There is no say for the women in the contract.'"
