Kaʿb bin 'Ujra said that Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him (Kaʿb), "Perhaps your lice have troubled you?" Kaʿb replied, "Yes! O Messenger of Allah ﷺ." Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Have your head shaved and then either fast three days or feed six poor persons or slaughter one sheep as a sacrifice."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنَّهُ قَالَ لَعَلَّكَ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَصُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ بِشَاةٍ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood beside me at Al-Hudaibiya and the lice were falling from my head in great number. He asked me, "Have your lice troubled you?" I replied in the affirmative. He ordered me to get my head shaved. Kaʿb added, "This Holy Verse:--'And if any of you is ill, or has ailment in his scalp (2.196), etc. was revealed regarding me. "The Prophet ﷺ then ordered me either to fast three days, or to feed six poor persons with one Faraq (three Sas) (of dates), or to slaughter a sheep, etc. (sacrifice) whatever was available.

قَالَ وَقَفَ عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَرَأْسِي يَتَهَافَتُ قَمْلاً فَقَالَ يُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ أَوْ قَالَ احْلِقْ قَالَ فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ} إِلَى آخِرِهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْ بِفَرَقٍ بَيْنَ سِتَّةٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ بِمَا تَيَسَّرَ

The Prophet ﷺ came to me at the time of Al-Hudaibiya Pledge while lice were falling on my face. He said, "Are the lice of your head troubling you?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head and fast for three days, or feed six poor persons, or slaughter a sheep as sacrifice." (The sub-narrator, Aiyub said, "I do not know with which of these three options he started.")

أَتَى عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ {أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ} قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ أَيُّوبُ لاَ أَدْرِي بِأَىِّ هَذَا بَدَأَ

We were in the company of Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Hudaibiya in the state of Ihram and the pagans did not allow us to proceed (to the Kaʿba). I had thick hair and lice started falling on my face. The Prophet ﷺ passed by me and said, "Are the lice of your head troubling you?" I replied, Yes." (The sub-narrator added, "Then the following Divine Verse was revealed:-- "And if anyone of you is ill or has an ailment in his scalp, (necessitating shaving) must pay a ransom (Fida) of either fasting or feeding the poor, Or offering a sacrifice." (2.196)

كُنَّا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ وَقَدْ حَصَرَنَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ قَالَ وَكَانَتْ لِي وَفْرَةٌ فَجَعَلَتِ الْهَوَامُّ تَسَّاقَطُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَمَرَّ بِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ وَأُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ}

The Prophet ﷺ came to me during the period of Al-Hudaibiya, while I was lighting fire underneath a cooking pot and lice were falling down my head. He said, "Do your lice hurt your?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head and fast for three days or feed six poor persons or slaughter a sheep as a sacrifice:"

أَتَى عَلَىَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ بُرْمَةٍ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَنْ رَأْسِي فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةً أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ أَيُّوبُ لاَ أَدْرِي بِأَيَّتِهِنَّ بَدَأَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me on the occasion of Hudaibiya and I was kindling fire under my cooking pot and lice were creeping on my face. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Do the vermins harm your head? I said: Yes. He said: Get your head shaved and (in lieu of it) observe fasts for three days or feed six needy persons, or offer sacrifice (of an animal). Ayyub said: I do not know with what (type of expiation) did he commence (the statement).

أَتَى عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قَالَ الْقْوَارِيرِيُّ قِدْرٍ لِي وَقَالَ أَبُو الرَّبِيعِ بُرْمَةٍ لِي وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ أَيُّوبُ فَلاَ أَدْرِي بِأَىِّ ذَلِكَ بَدَأَ

It was I for whom this verse was revealed (to the Holy Prophet):" Whoever among you is sick or has an ail- ment of the head, he (may effect) a compensation by lasting or alms or a sacrifice" He said: I came to him (the Holy Prophet) and he said: Come Dear. So I went near. He (again) said: Come near. So I went near. Thereupon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Do the vermins trouble you? Ibn Aun (one of the narrators) said: I think he (Ka'b b. Ujra) replied in the affirmative. He (the Holy Prophet) then commanded to do compensation by fasting or by giving sadaqa (feeding six needy persons) or by sacrifice (of a animal) that is available.

فِيَّ أُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ { فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ} قَالَ فَأَتَيْتُهُ فَقَالَ ادْنُهْ فَدَنَوْتُ فَقَالَ ادْنُهْ فَدَنَوْتُ فَقَالَ ﷺ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ قَالَ ابْنُ عَوْنٍ وَأَظُنُّهُ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَأَمَرَنِي بِفِدْيَةٍ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ مَا تَيَسَّرَ

Do these vermins trouble you? I said: Yes. Thereupon he said: Then shave your head; and it was in connection with me that this verse was revealed:" Whoever among you is sick or has an ailment of the head, he (may effect) a compensation by fasting or alms or a sacrifice". He (the Holy Prophet, therefore) said to me: Observe fast for three days or give a quantity of alms enough to feed six needy persons or offer sacrifice (of an animal) that is available.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ وَرَأْسُهُ يَتَهَافَتُ قَمْلاً فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ قَالَ فَفِيَّ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الآيَةُ { فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ} فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْ بِفَرَقٍ بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ مَا تَيَسَّرَ

Do these vermin trouble you? He (Ka'b) said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said: Shave your head and give some quantity of food enough to feed six needy persons (faraq is equal to three sa's), or observe fast for three days or offer sacrifice of a sacrificial animal. Ibn Najih (one of the narrators) said:" Or sacrifice a goat."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ مَكَّةَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ وَهُوَ يُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ هَذِهِ قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَأَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينَ وَالْفَرَقُ ثَلاَثَةُ آصُعٍ أَوْ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ أَوِ اذْبَحْ شَاةً

Do these vermins trouble your head? He said: Yes. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Shave your head. Then sacrifice a goat or observe fasts for three days or give three sits of dates to feed six needy persons.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فَقَالَ لَهُ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ احْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ ثُمَّ اذْبَحْ شَاةً نُسُكًا أَوْ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ ثَلاَثَةَ آصُعٍ مِنْ تَمْرٍ عَلَى سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينَ

Ka’ab bin ‘Ujrah said that the Apostle of Allaah ﷺ came upon him (during their stay) at Al Hudaibiyyah. He asked do the insects of your head (lice) annoy you? He said Yes. The Prophet ﷺ said Shave your head, then sacrifice a sheep as offering or fast three days or give three sa’s of dates to six poor people.

He said: 'Are your lice bothering you?'" [He said:] "I said: 'Yes.' He said: 'Then shave your head and offer a sacrifice, or fast three days, or feed six needy people.'" Ayyub said: "I do not know which of them he started with."

أَتَى عَلَىَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ وَالْقَمْلُ تَتَنَاثَرُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِي أَوْ قَالَ حَاجِبِي فَقَالَ أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَانْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً أَوْ صُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطَعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ قَالَ أَيُّوبُ لاَ أَدْرِي بِأَيَّتِهِنَّ بَدَأَ

from Ka'b bin 'Ujrah who said: "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me while I was lighting a fire under a pot, and lice were falling on my face, or on my eye-brows. أَتَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَلَى وَجْهِي أَوْ قَالَ حَاجِبَيَّ فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟ قَالَ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْهُ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوْ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ أَيُّوبُ لَا أَدْرِي بِأَيَّتِهِنَّ بَدَأَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ stopped at Al-Hudaybiyah, and as he did, lice were crawling on his head. He asked, "Do your lice harm you?" I replied, "Yes." He then said, "Shave your head." In the Quran, Allah said, "And whoever among you is ill or has an ailment of the head, then a ransom of fasting [three days], or charity or sacrifice [is required]" (2:196). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded me to observe fasting for three days, or give charity, or make a sacrifice according to my capability.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَقَفَ عَلَيْهِ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ قَالَ وَرَأْسُهُ يَتَهَافَتُ قَمْلًا قَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ ؟ قَالَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ قَالَ فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ} [البقرة 196] قَالَ فَأَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْ بِفِرْقٍ بَيْنَ سِتَّةٍ أَوْ بِنُسُكٍ مَا تَيَسَّرَ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Humayd bin Qays from Mujahid Abu'l Hajjaj from Ibn Abi Layla from Kab ibn Ujra that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to him, "Perhaps your pests are troubling you?" He replied that indeed they were, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shave your head and fast three days or feed six poor men or sacrifice a sheep."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَهُ لَعَلَّكَ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّكَ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَصُمْ ثَلاَثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ بِشَاةٍ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by me while I was sitting under a pot and lice were crawling from my head. He ﷺ asked, "Are the lice bothering you?" I replied, "Yes." He ﷺ said, "Shave your head, fast for three days, or feed six poor people."

مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لِي وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ مِنْ رَأْسِي فَقَالَ ﷺ «أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ اطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me in Hudaybiyah while I was sitting near a cooking pot or a small hole, and lice were crawling on my face. He said, "Are your lice bothering you, Ka'b?" I replied, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "Shave your head and perform a ritual purification (Ghusl) or fast for three days, or feed six poor people as expiation."

مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لِي أَوْ تَحْتَ بُرْمَةٍ لِي وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ «أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ يَا كَعْبُ؟ » قُلْتُ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَانْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينَ»

[AI] I went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during Umrah, and he saw lice on my head. He asked, "O Ka'b, do your lice harm you?" I replied, "Yes." He then said, "Shave your head, sacrifice a sheep, fast for three days, or feed six poor people."

لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِي عُمْرَةٍ وَرَأَى الْقَمْلَ فِي رَأْسِي «يَا كَعْبُ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ وَاذْبَحْ شَاةً أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by me in Hudaybiyah while I was cooking a pot, and lice were crawling all over my face. He said, "Does the lice bother you?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Shave off your hair, then observe fast for three days, or slaughter a sheep, or feed six poor people, and give them something to wear as well."

مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أَطْبُخُ قِدْرًا وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ ثُمَّ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ اذْبَحْ شَاةً أَوْ أَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by me in Al-Hudaybiyah while I was boiling a pot, and lice were swarming on my face. He asked, "Do the lice bother you?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head, then observe three days of fasting or sacrifice a sheep, and feed six needy people."

مَرَّ بِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ أَطْبُخُ قِدْرًا وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ ثُمَّ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ اذْبَحْ شَاةً أَوْ أَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينٍ»

[AI] Prophet Muhammad came to me during the time of Hudaybiyah, and I had a boil on my back while lice were falling on me. He asked, "Is your head itching?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head and feed six poor people, or fast for three days, or sacrifice an animal."

أَتَى عَلِيَّ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ بُرْمَةٍ لِي وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَلِيَّ فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «احْلِقْ وَأَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ ثَلَاثَةَ آصُعٍ أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ»

[AI] Ali came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the time of Hudaybiyah and found me sitting under a cooking pot while lice were crawling on my face. He asked, "Does the itchiness bother you?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head, observe fasting for three days, feed six poor people, or sacrifice a sheep as expiation for your negligence." This narration is from the hadith of Ibn Ulayyah.

أَتَى عَلِيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لِي وَالْقَمْلُ يُنْثَرُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً» وَاللَّفْظُ لِحَدِيثِ ابْنِ عُلَيَّةَ

Do these vermin trouble you? He (Ka'b) said: Yes. The Messenger of Allah (way peace be upon him) said: Shave your head and give some quantity of food enough to feed six needy persons (faraq is equal to three sa's), or observe fast for three days or offer sacrifice of a sacrificial animal. Ibn Najih (one of the narrators) said:" Or sacrifice a goat." (Using translation from Muslim 1201e)

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَدْخُلَ مَكَّةَ وَهُوَ مُحْرِمٌ يُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لَهُ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ هَذِهِ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَأَطْعِمْ فَرَقًا بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينٍ وَالْفَرَقُ ثَلَاثَةُ آصُعٍ أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً» قَالَ ابْنُ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ أَوِ اذْبَحْ شَاةً

[AI] The Prophet saw him as he was kindling a fire under a pot and lice were crowding on his face. He said, "Does your lice harm you?" The man said, "Yes." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Shave your head and fast for three days, or feed six poor persons, or slaughter a sheep as a sacrifice."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لَهُ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَهَافَتُ عَلَى وَجْهِهِ فَقَالَ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ؟» قَالَ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَانْسُكْ أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ ثَلَاثَةَ آصُعٍ بَيْنَ سِتَّةِ مَسَاكِينٍ»

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ passed by me during the time of Hudaybiyah while I was cooking under a pot and the hair on my head was falling. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked me, "Is the heat bothering you?" I replied, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head and observe a three-day fast, or feed six poor people, or sacrifice an animal."

مَرَّ بِي النَّبِيُّ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ لِي وَهَوَامُّ رَأْسِي تَسَّاقَطُ فَقَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «احْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ أَوِ اذْبَحْ ذَبِيحَةً»

[AI] The messenger of Allah ﷺ saw some marks on his face and said, "I see, O Ka'b, that something has harmed your head." He replied, "Yes, by Allah, O messenger of Allah." The Prophet said, "Shave your head and feed six poor people or fast for three days or sacrifice a sheep."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ رَأَى عَلَى وَجْهِهِ دَوَابَّ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي لَأَرَاكَ يَا كَعْبُ قَدْ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟» قَالَ أَجَلْ وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «احْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَأَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوِ انْسُكْ شَاةً»

[AI] In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The verse "So whoever among you is ill or has harm (in his hair) from the head must ransom (the fasting) by feeding the poor or offering a sacrifice or giving charity" was revealed. I asked, "What happened to you?" He said, "We went out with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in a state of ihram, and lice infested my head, beard, and mustache, until it reached my eyebrows. This was mentioned to the Prophet ﷺ, so he said, 'I did not think that it would be difficult for you, so call the barber.' He called the barber and had his head shaved. Then he asked, 'Do you have anything to offer as ransom?' I said, 'No.' He said, 'Then fast for three days or feed six poor people, giving each poor person half a sa' of food.' This verse was revealed specifically for me, but it is general for all people."

فِيَّ نَزَلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ} قُلْتُ كَيْفَ كَانَ شَأْنُكَ؟ قَالَ خَرَجْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ وَنَحْنُ مُحْرِمُونَ فَوَقَعَ الْقَمْلُ فِي رَأْسِي وَلِحْيَتِي وَشَارِبِي حَتَّى وَقَعَ فِي حَاجِبَيَّ فَذُكِرَ ذَلِكَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا كُنْتُ أَرَى بَلَغَ بِكَ هَذَا ادْعُ الْحَلَّاقَ» فَدَعَا الْحَلَّاقَ فَحَلَقَ رَأْسَهُ فَقَالَ «هَلْ تَجِدُ نَسِيكَةً؟» قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ «فَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينٍ بَيْنَ كُلِّ مِسْكِينَيْنِ صَاعٌ» فَنَزَلَتْ فِيَّ خَاصَّةً وَلِلنَّاسِ عَامَّةً

The Prophet ﷺ came to me at the time of Al-Hudaibiya Pledge while lice were falling on my face. He said, "Are the lice of your head troubling you?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Shave your head and fast for three days, or feed six poor persons, or slaughter a sheep as sacrifice." أَتَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأنا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ قِدْرٍ وَالْقَمْلُ يَتَنَاثَرُ عَلَى جَبْهَتِي أَوْ حَاجِبَيَّ فَقَالَ «أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ؟» فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَانْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ» قَالَ أَيُّوبُ لَا أَدْرِي بِأَيِّهِنَّ بَدَأَ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood beside me at Al-Hudaibiya and the lice were falling from my head in great number. He asked me, "Have your lice troubled you?" I replied in the affirmative. He ordered me to get my head shaved. Kaʿb added, "This Holy Verse:--'And if any of you is ill, or has ailment in his scalp (2.196), etc. was revealed regarding me. "The Prophet ﷺ then ordered me either to fast three days, or to feed six poor persons with one Faraq (three Sas) (of dates), or to slaughter a sheep, etc. (sacrifice) whatever was available. قَالَ وَقَفَ عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَرَأْسِي يَتَهَافَتُ قَمْلًا فَقَالَ «أَتُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّكَ؟» قُلْتُ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ قَالَ «فَاحْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ» وَأُنْزِلَتْ هَذِهِ الْآيَةُ {فَمَنْ كَانَ مِنْكُمْ مَرِيضًا أَوْ بِهِ أَذًى مِنْ رَأْسِهِ فَفِدْيَةٌ مِنْ صِيَامٍ أَوْ صَدَقَةٍ أَوْ نُسُكٍ} [البقرة 196] قَالَ فَأَمَرَنِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ تَصَدَّقْ بِفَرَقٍ بَيْنَ سِتَّةٍ أَوْ شَاةٍ مَا تَيَسَّرَ قَالَ وَأَنْزِلَ اللهُ فِيهِ هَذَا

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Perhaps your spoiling is causing you harm?" So, I said, "Yes, O Messenger of Allah." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Shave your head, fast for three days, or feed six poor people, or slaughter a sheep."

عَنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ قَالَ لَعَلَّكَ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ نَعَمْ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْلِقْ رَأْسَكَ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ شَاةً

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a man in Hudaybiyah and said to him, "Is that your hair?" The man replied, "Yes." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to him, "Shave it off, then either offer a sacrifice or fast for three days, or feed six poor people with a few dates."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فَقَالَ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْلِقْ ثُمَّ اذْبَحْ نُسُكًا أَوْ صُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ ثَلَاثَةَ آصُعٍ مِنْ تَمْرٍ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me on the occasion of Hudaibiya and I was kindling fire under my cooking pot and lice were creeping on my face. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: Do the vermins harm your head? I said: Yes. He said: Get your head shaved and (in lieu of it) observe fasts for three days or feed six needy persons, or offer sacrifice (of an animal). Ayyub said: I do not know with what (type of expiation) did he commence (the statement). (Using translation from Muslim 1201a)

أَتَى عَلَيَّ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ زَمَنَ الْحُدَيْبِيَةِ وَأَنَا أُوقِدُ تَحْتَ بُرْمَةٍ لِي وَالْقُمَّلُ يَتَسَاقَطُ عَلَى وَجْهِي فَقَالَ أَيُؤْذِيكَ هَوَامُّ رَأْسِكَ؟ قُلْتُ نَعَمْ قَالَ فَاحْلِقْ وَصُمْ ثَلَاثَةَ أَيَّامٍ أَوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ أَوِ انْسُكْ نَسِيكَةً قَالَ أَيُّوبُ مَا أَدْرِي بِأِيِّ ذَلِكَ بَدَأَ

"لَعَلَّكَ آذَاكَ هَوَامُّكَ، احْلِقْ رأْسَكَ وَصُمْ ثَلاثَةَ أيَّام، أوْ أَطْعِمْ سِتَّةَ مَسَاكِينَ، أَو انْسُكَ شَاةً".
