عَطَاءُ بْنُ يَسَارٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ سَلَامٍ

[Machine] We find the description of the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ, as a witness, bearer of glad tidings, warner, and a protector for the unlettered people. You are His servant and His Messenger. He named you as the one who relies on Allah. You are not rude, nor harsh, nor do you shout in the markets. You do not respond to evil with its equal, but instead you forgive, overlook, and pardon. I will not take away your life until I establish the crooked religion by making them bear witness that there is no god but Allah. Through this, the blind will see, the deaf will hear, and the sealed hearts will be opened.” Atta bin Yasar said, and Abu Waqid Al-Laithi informed me, that he heard Ka'b Al-Ahbar say the same thing that Ibn Salam said.

I met ʿAbdullah bin ʿAmr bin Al-ʿAs and asked him, "Tell me about the description of Messenger of Allah ﷺ which is mentioned in Torah (i.e. Old Testament.") He replied, 'Yes. By Allah, he is described in Torah with some of the qualities attributed to him in the Qur'an as follows: "O Prophet ! We have sent you as a witness (for Allah's True religion) And a giver of glad tidings (to the faithful believers), And a warner (to the unbelievers) And guardian of the illiterates. You are My slave and My messenger (i.e. Apostle). I have named you "Al-Mutawakkil" (who depends upon Allah). You are neither discourteous, harsh Nor a noisemaker in the markets And you do not do evil to those Who do evil to you, but you deal With them with forgiveness and kindness. Allah will not let him (the Prophet) Die till he makes straight the crooked people by making them say: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah," With which will be opened blind eyes And deaf ears and enveloped hearts."

This Verse: 'Verily We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner.' (48.8) which is in the Qur'an, appears in the Torah thus: 'Verily We have sent you (O Muhammad) as a witness, as a bringer of glad tidings and as a warner, and as a protector for the illiterates (i.e., the Arabs.) You are my slave and My Apostle, and I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (one who depends upon Allah). You are neither hard-hearted nor of fierce character, nor one who shouts in the markets. You do not return evil for evil, but excuse and forgive. Allah will not take you unto Him till He guides through you a crocked (curved) nation on the right path by causing them to say: "None has the right to be worshipped but Allah." With such a statement He will cause to open blind eyes, deaf ears and hardened hearts.'

[Machine] He used to say: "We find the description of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the verse 'We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of glad tidings, and a warner, and a protector for the unlettered people. You are My servant and My Messenger. I have named you Al-Mutawakkil (The Reliant). You are not rude, harsh, nor noisy in the markets. You do not retaliate for the sake of evil with similar evil, but rather forgive and overlook. I will not take back your soul until you establish the straight path. They proclaim that there is no deity but Allah, and I will open for them blind eyes, deaf ears, and sealed hearts.’” Ata' bin Yassar said, and Abu Waqid Al-Laythi informed me that he heard Ka'ab say the same as Ibn Salam said.

[Machine] I met Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As and asked him to tell me about the description of the Messenger of Allah in the Torah. He said, "Indeed, he is described in the Torah with some of his qualities in the Furqan: O Prophet, indeed We have sent you as a witness and a bringer of good tidings and a warner." (Surah Al-Ahzab 45) "And a guardian for the illiterate." You are My slave and My Messenger, I named you the Trusting One. You are not rude, harsh, or loud in the markets. You do not repay evil with evil, but rather you forgive and pardon. I will not take your soul until I establish through you the crooked religion, and the people say, 'There is no god but Allah,' and open with it the eyes of the blind, the ears of the deaf, and the hearts of the closed." Ata ibn Yasar, may Allah have mercy on him, said, "Then I met Ka'b al-Habr and asked him, and they did not differ in anything except that Ka'b said, 'the blind eyes' and 'the closed hearts.' "
