[Machine] I said to Ibn Abbas, "Indeed, your people claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw stones at the house, and they say it is a Sunnah." He said, "They tell the truth and they lie." I asked, "How can they tell the truth and lie at the same time?" He replied, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ did throw stones at the house, but it is not a Sunnah. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ , his companions, and the polytheists were throwing stones at Jabal Quaqi'an. When they heard that they were being ridiculed, he ordered them to stop throwing stones to show them that they had strength."

قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ رَمَلَ بِالْبَيْتِ وَأَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا قُلْتُ كَيْفَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا؟ قَالَ قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِالْبَيْتِ وَلَيْسَ بِسُنَّةٍ قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُمْ يَتَحَدَّثُونَ أَنَّ بِهِمْ هَزْلًا فَأَمَرَهُمْ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّ بِهِمْ قُوَّةً

[Machine] I said to Ibn Abbas, "Your people claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw pebbles during the ritual stoning, considering it a Sunnah (a recommended practice)." He replied, "My people speak the truth, while they lie. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ indeed threw pebbles, but it is not a Sunnah. Rather, he did so in response to the pagans' mockery, efforts, and intensity. He commanded them to throw stones at the building as proof that their efforts did not harm him."

قُلْتُ لِابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إِنَّ قَوْمَكَ يَزْعُمُونَ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَدْ رَمَلَوَأَنَّهَا سُنَّةٌ قَالَ صَدَقَ قَوْمِي وَكَذَبُوا قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَتْ بِسُنَّةٍ وَلَكِنَّهُ قَدِمَ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ فَتَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ بِهِ وَبِأَصْحَابِهِ هَزْلًا وَجَهْدًا وَشِدَّةً فَأَمَرَهُمْ فَرَمَلُوا بِالْبَيْتِ لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّهُمْ لَمْ يُصِبْهُمْ جَهْدٌ

[Machine] "That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ threw pebbles and said, 'Believe and disbelieve, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ has thrown pebbles and it is not a Sunnah.' Then he said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the polytheists arrived at Qu'ayqa'an, and they spoke that the Companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ were weak and exhausted. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ordered them to throw pebbles to show them that they are strong.'"

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ رَمَلَ وَأَنَّهُ سَنَةٌ فَقَالَ صَدَقُوا وَكَذَبُوا قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَلَيْسَ بِسُنَّةٍ ثُمَّ قَالَ «قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى قُعَيْقِعَانَ وَقَدْ تَحَدَّثُوا أَنَّ بِصَحَابَةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ هُزَالًا وَجَهْدًا فَأَمَرَهُمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَنْ يَرْمُلُوا لِيُرِيَهُمْ أَنَّ بِهِمْ قُوَّةً»

[Machine] I said to Ibn Abbas, "Indeed, your people claim that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed stoning and that it is a tradition." He replied, "They have lied and they have told the truth. When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered Makkah and the polytheists were at Qa'iqi'an, they joked that Muhammad ﷺ and his companions were jesting. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed stoning and ordered his companions to do so, but it is not a tradition."

قَدْ رَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وَلَيْسَتْ سُنَّةً قَدِمَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وَالْمُشْرِكُونَ عَلَى جَبَلِ قُعَيْقِعَانَ فَبَلَغَهُ أَنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ إِنَّ بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ وَأَصْحَابِهِ هَزْلا فَرَمَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم وَأَمَرَ أَصْحَابَهُ لِيَرْمُلُوا لِيَرَى الْمُشْرِكُونَ أَنَّ بِهِمْ قُوَّةً
