[Machine] Tamim al-Dari reported or it was reported to me that Tamim al-Dari performed two units of prayer after 'Umar ibn al-Khattab had prohibited praying after 'Asr. 'Umar struck him with a stick, and Tamim motioned to him to sit down while he was in prayer. 'Umar sat until Tamim finished and then said to him, "Why did you strike me?" Tamim said, "Because you prayed these two units while I had prohibited them." 'Umar said, "I have performed them with someone better than you, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." 'Umar said, "I am not afraid of you, O small group, but I fear that a people will come after you who will pray from 'Asr until Maghrib and claim to have seen so and so and so and so praying after 'Asr."  

أَخْبَرَ تَمِيمٌ الدَّارِيُّ أَوْ أُخْبِرْتُ عَنْهُ أَنَّ تَمِيمًا الدَّارِيَّ رَكَعَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ نَهْيِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ عَنِ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ فَأَتَاهُ فَضَرَبَهُ بِالدِّرَّةِ فَأَشَارَ إِلَيْهِ تَمِيمٌ أَنِ اجْلِسْ وَهُوَ فِي صَلَاتِهِ فَجَلَسَ عُمَرُ حَتَّى فَرَغَ تَمِيمٌ فَقَالَ لِعُمَرَ لِمَ ضَرَبْتَنِي؟ قَالَ لِأَنَّكَ رَكَعْتَ هَاتَيْنِ الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ وَقَدْ نَهَيْتُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ فَإِنِّي قَدْ صَلَّيْتُهُمَا مَعَ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ ؓ «إِنِّي لَيْسَ بِي إِيَّاكُمْ أَيُّهَا الرَّهْطُ وَلَكِنِّي أَخَافُ أَنْ يَأْتِيَ بَعْدَكُمْ قَوْمٌ يُصَلُّونَ مَا بَيْنَ الْعَصْرِ إِلَى الْمَغْرِبِ حَتَّى يَمُرُّوا بِالسَّاعةِ الَّتِي نَهَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ يُصَلَّى فِيهَا كَمَا وَصَلُوا بَيْنَ الظُّهْرِ وَالْعَصْرِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُونَ قَدْ رَأَيْنَا فُلَانَ وَفُلَانَ يُصَلُّونَ بَعْدَ الْعَصْرِ»  

[Machine] "Abu Rifaah used to heat water for his companions, then he would say, 'Perform ablution better than this, for I will perform ablution better than this,' and he would perform ablution with cold water."  

«كَانَ أَبُو رِفَاعَةَ يُسَخِّنُ الْمَاءَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ أَحْسِنُوا الْوُضُوءَ مِنْ هَذَا فَسَأُحْسِنُ مِنْ هَذَا فَيَتَوَضَّأُ بِالْمَاءِ الْبَارِدِ»  

[Machine] "That is the path of Abi Rifaah that I am following, and I am committed to working hard after him."  

أَنَّهُ طَرِيقُ أَبِي رِفَاعَةَ آخُذُهُ وَأَنَا أَكَدُّ الْعَمَلَ بَعْدَهُ كَدًّا»
