The Prophet ﷺ prayed two rakʿat of Zuhr prayer (instead of four) and he was told that he had prayed two rakʿat only. Then he prayed two more rakʿat and finished them with the Taslim followed by two prostrations.

صَلَّى النَّبِيُّ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقِيلَ صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

Abu Hurairah reported; The Prophet ﷺ offered the noon prayer and he gave the salutation at the end of two rakahs. He was asked. Has the prayer been shortened ? then he offered two rakahs of the prayer and made two prostrations (at the end of it).

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ فَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقِيلَ لَهُ نَقَصَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

"The Prophet (S) prayed five (Rakah) for Zuhr, so it was said to him: 'Has the prayer been added to, or have you merely forgotten?' So he (S) performed two prostrations after he had said the Salam."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ خَمْسًا فَقِيلَ لَهُ أَزِيدَ فِي الصَّلاَةِ فَسَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ بَعْدَ مَا سَلَّمَ

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed Zuhr with two rak'ahs, then said the salam. They said: "Has the prayer been shortened?" So he stood up and prayed two rak'ahs, then he said the salam, then he prostrated twice.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى صَلاَةَ الظُّهْرِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ فَقَامَ وَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ

‘O Messenger of Allah, has the prayer been shortened or did you forget?’ He said: ‘It has not been shortened and I did not forget.’ He said: ‘But you prayed two Rak’ah.’ He said: ‘Is what Dhul-Yadain says true?’ They said: ‘Yes.’ So he went forward and performed two Rak’ah and said the Salam, then he prostrated twice for prostrations of forgetfulness.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَهَا فَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلاَةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ مَا قَصُرَتْ وَمَا نَسِيتُ قَالَ إِنَّكَ صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ قَالَ أَكَمَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَتَقَدَّمَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَىِ السَّهْوِ

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى ثَلَاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَسَلَّمَ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَةً فَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ وَهُوَ جَالِسٌ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , prayed Dhuhr or Asr prayer with three units of prayer, then he said the tasleem. A man from the companions of the Prophet, ﷺ , whose nickname was Al-Khirbaq, asked: "Has the prayer been shortened?" So, he asked the Prophet, ﷺ , and when he learned that what he said was true, he prayed one unit of prayer, then said the tasleem, then prostrated for two units of prayer, then said the tasleem.

صَلَّى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الظُّهْرَ أَوِ الْعَصْرَ ثَلَاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺيُقَالُ لَهُ الْخِرْبَاقُ أَقُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ؟ فَسَأَلَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَإِذَا هُوَ كَمَا قَالَ قَالَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ used to pray three units of prayer before or after the noon or afternoon prayer. It was said to him: "Is that how you pray?" He replied, "Yes." So, he prayed one unit of prayer, then he sat and made the testimony of faith and salutation, then he prostrated twice for the forgetfulness, then he made the salutation.

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ صَلَّى صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ أَوِ الْعَصْرِ ثَلَاثَ رَكَعَاتٍ فَقِيلَ لَهُ فَقَالَ «أَكَذَلِكَ؟ » قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَةً ثُمَّ تَشَهَّدَ وَسَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ سلم في ركعتين فقالوا يا رَسولَ اللهِ نسيت أو قصرت الصلاة؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لم أنس ولم تقصر الصلاة قالوا يا رَسولَ اللهِ نسيت فركع ركعتين أخريين وسجد سجدتين

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صلى الظهر ركعتين ثُمَّ سلم فسأله يعني بعض القوم أنقص من الصلاة؟ أَحسَبُهُ قال فصلى ركعتين ثُمَّ سلم ثُمَّ سجد سجدتين

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَلَّى إِحْدَى صَلاتَيِ الْعِشِيِّ فسلم في الركعتين ثم خرج إلى خشبة معترضة في المسجد وخرج سرعان الناس فقام إليه رجل يقال له ذو اليدين فقال يا رسول الله أقصرت الصلاة أم نسيت قال لم تقصر ولم أنس قال إنك سلمت في الركعتين فقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أكما يقول ذو اليدين؟ قالوا نعم فرجع فصلى ركعتين ثم تشهد ثم سلم وسجد سجدتين

[AI] The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , performed two units of the Dhuhr prayer, then he finished and said, "Did the prayer become shorter?" He then stood and performed two units of prayer, then finished and performed two prostrations. Abu Abdur-Rahman said to us, "I do not know anyone who mentioned this hadith from Abu Salamah, except Sa'd."

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُّهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ فَقَالُوا «أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلِمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ» قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ لَا أَعْلَمُ أَحَدًا ذَكَرَ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ فِي هَذَا الْحَدِيثِ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيْنِ غَيْرَ سَعْدٍ

[AI] While I was praying the Dhuhr prayer with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished two units of prayer and stood up. Then, a man from the tribe of Sulaym stood up and said, "O Messenger of Allah, did you shorten the prayer or forget?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ replied, "I did not shorten it nor did I forget." The man said, "O Messenger of Allah, you only prayed two units." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "What does the man with two hands say?" They replied, "Yes." So, he stood up and prayed two units of prayer with them.

بَيْنَمَا أَنَا أُصَلِّي مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَاةَ الظُّهْرِ فَسَلَّمَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مِنْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَامَ رَجُلٌ مِنْ بَنِي سُلَيْمٍ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَمْ تُقْصَرْ وَلَمْ أَنَسَ» فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّمَا صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «أَحَقٌّ مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟» قَالُوا نَعَمْ فَقَامَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ prayed with his companions and greeted them after two units (of prayer). A man known as "Dhul-Yadayn" (possessor of two hands) and he had long hands, said, "O Messenger of Allah, did the prayer become shorter or did you forget?" He ﷺ said, "The prayer did not become shorter and I did not forget." They asked, "What does Dhul-Yadayn say?" They said, "He told the truth." So he ﷺ prayed two units of prayer with them.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى بِأَصْحَابِهِ فَسَلَّمَ فِي رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الْيَدَيْنِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ «مَا قَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَمَا نَسِيتُ» قَالَ مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟ قَالُوا صَدَقَ فَصَلَّى بِهِمْ رَكْعَتَيْنِ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ صَلَّى فَسَهَا فَسَلَّمَ فِي الرَّكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ يُقَالُ لَهُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَقَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ مَا قَصُرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَمَا نَسِيتُ قَالَ فَإِنَّكَ صَلَّيْتَ رَكْعَتَيْنِ فَقَالَ أَكَمَا قَالَ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟ قَالُوا نَعَمْ قَالَ فَتَقَدَّمَ فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَيِ السَّهْوِ تَفَرَّدَ بِهِ أَبُو أُسَامَةَ حَمَّادُ بْنُ أُسَامَةَ وَهُوَ مِنَ الثِّقَاتِ

"أقُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ أَمْ نَسِيتَ؟ قَالَ: مَا قُصِرَتِ الصَّلَاةُ وَمَا نَسِيتُ، ثُمَّ أَقْبَلَ عَلَى أَبِى بَكْرٍ وَعُمَرَ فَقَالَ: مَا يَقُولُ ذُو الْيَدَيْنِ؟ فَقَالَا: صَدَقَ يَا رَسُولَ الله، فَرَجَعَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ وَثَابَ النَّاسُ، فَصَلَّى رَكْعَتَيْنِ ثُمَّ سَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ سَجَدَ سَجْدَتَىِ السَّهْوِ".

"أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ صَلَّى الظُهْرَ رَكْعَتَيْن ثُمَ سَلَّمَ، فَقِيلَ لَهُ: انْقُصْ من الصَّلَاةِ، فَصَلَّى رَكعَتين أُخَراوَيْن فَسَلَّم، ثُمَ سَجَد سَجْدَتَيْن".
