Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out to inform the people about the (date of the Night of decree (Al-Qadr). There happened a quarrel between two Muslim men. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I came out to inform you about the Night of Al-Qadr, but as so-and-so and so-and-so quarrelled, so the news about it had been taken away; and may be it was better for you. So look for it in the ninth, the seventh, or the fifth (of the last ten days of Ramadan).

خَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لِيُخْبِرَ النَّاسَ بِلَيْلَةِ الْقَدْرِ فَتَلاَحَى رَجُلاَنِ مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ خَرَجْتُ لأُخْبِرَكُمْ فَتَلاَحَى فُلاَنٌ وَفُلاَنٌ وَإِنَّهَا رُفِعَتْ وَعَسَى أَنْ يَكُونَ خَيْرًا لَكُمْ فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي التَّاسِعَةِ وَالسَّابِعَةِ وَالْخَامِسَةِ

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed I'tikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan, while seeking the Night of Qadr. When those days had passed, he ordered the construction to be torn down and it was revealed to him that it was in the last ten days of Ramadan. So he came out to the people and said, "O people, indeed I was informed about the Night of Qadr, but I was made to forget it, so search for it in the seventh night or in the fifth night."

اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوْسَطَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ يَلْتَمِسُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فَلَمَّا انْقَضَى أَمَرَ بِالْبِنَاءِ فَنُقِضَ فَأُبِينَتْ لَهُ أَنَّهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ فَخَرَجَ إِلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «أَيُّهَا النَّاسُ إِنِّي قَدْ أُبِينَتْ لِي لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ فَخَرَجْتُ أُحَدِّثُكُمْ بِهَا فَجَاءَ رَجُلَانِ يَخْتَصِمَانِ وَمَعَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ فَنُسِّيتُهَا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي السَّابِعَةِ وَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي الْخَامِسَةِ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ observed i'tikaf during the middle ten days of Ramadan while seeking Laylat al-Qadr before it was made clear to him. When it had elapsed, he commanded that a shelter be constructed but it was torn down. Then, it was revealed that it was in the last ten days, so he ordered for it to be reconstructed and observed i'tikaf during the last ten days. He then came out to the people and said, "I was informed of the night of Laylat al-Qadr, so I came out to inform you of it, but two men along with Satan came to me and I forgot it. So, seek it in the ninth, seventh, and fifth nights."

اعْتَكَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوْسَطَ مِنْ رَمَضَانَ وَهُوَ يَلْتَمِسُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تُبَانَ لَهُ فَلَمَّا انْقَضَيْنَ أَمَرَ بِالْبِنَاءِ فَنُقِضَ ثُمَّ «أُبِينَتْ أَنَّهَا فِي الْعَشْرِ الْأَوَاخِرِ» فَأَمَرَ بِالْبِنَاءِ فَأُعِيدَ وَاعْتَكَفَ الْعَشْرَ الْأَوَاخِرَ فَخَرَجَ عَلَى النَّاسِ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي أُنْبِئْتُ لَيْلَةَ الْقَدْرِ فَخَرَجْتُ لِأُخْبِرَكُمْ بِهَا فَجَاءَ رَجُلَانِ مَعَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ فَنَسِيتُهَا فَالْتَمِسُوهَا فِي التَّاسِعَةِ وَفِي السَّابِعَةِ وَفِي الْخَامِسَةِ»

"إِنَّها أُبِينَتْ لِى: لَيْلَةُ الْقَدْرِ، (و) إِنِّى خَرَجْتُ لأُبَيِّنَها لَكُمْ، فَتَلَاحى رَجُلَان فَنَسِيتُها، فالتمسُوهَا في التَّاسعةِ، والسَّابعةِ، والخامسةِ".
