The Prophet ﷺ looked at the people of the well (the well in which the bodies of the pagans killed in the Battle of Badr were thrown) and said, "Have you found true what your Lord promised you?" Somebody said to him, "You are addressing dead people." He replied, "You do not hear better than they but they cannot reply."

أَخْبَرَهُ قَالَ اطَّلَعَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقَلِيبِ فَقَالَ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا فَقِيلَ لَهُ تَدْعُو أَمْوَاتًا فَقَالَ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنْ لاَ يُجِيبُونَ

O Abu Jahl b. Hisham, O Umayya b. Khalaf, O Utba b. Rab'ila, O Shaiba b. Rabi'a, have you not found what your Lord had promised with you to be correct? As for me, I have found the promises of my Lord to be (perfectly) correct. Umar listened to the words of Allah's Apostle ﷺ and said: Messenger of Allah, how do they listen and respond to you? They are dead and their bodies have decayed. Thereupon he (the Holy Prophet) said: By Him in Whose Hand is my life, what I am saying to them, even you cannot hear more distinctly than they, but they lack the power to reply. Then'he commanded that they should be buried in the well of Badr.

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَرَكَ قَتْلَى بَدْرٍ ثَلاَثًا ثُمَّ أَتَاهُمْ فَقَامَ عَلَيْهِمْ فَنَادَاهُمْ فَقَالَ يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ يَا أُمَيَّةَ بْنَ خَلَفٍ يَا عُتْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ يَا شَيْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ أَلَيْسَ قَدْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا فَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا فَسَمِعَ عُمَرُ قَوْلَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ كَيْفَ يَسْمَعُوا وَأَنَّى يُجِيبُوا وَقَدْ جَيَّفُوا قَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لاَ يَقْدِرُونَ أَنْ يُجِيبُوا ثُمَّ أَمَرَ بِهِمْ فَسُحِبُوا فَأُلْقُوا فِي قَلِيبِ بَدْرٍ

"During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; 'O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O 'Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! Have you found what your Lord promised to be true? For I have found what my Lord promised me to be true.' They said: 'O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to people who have turned into rotten corpses?' He said: 'You do not hear what I say any better than they do, but they cannot answer.'"

سَمِعَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنَ اللَّيْلِ بِبِئْرِ بَدْرٍ وَرَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَائِمٌ يُنَادِي يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ وَيَا شَيْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ وَيَا عُتْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ وَيَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنَ خَلَفٍ هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا فَإِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ أَوَتُنَادِي قَوْمًا قَدْ جَيَّفُوا فَقَالَ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يُجِيبُوا

[AI] He informed him and said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ surveyed the people of Qalib in the Battle of Badr, then he called out to them and said, 'O people of Qalib, have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?' Some of his companions said, 'O Messenger of Allah, are you calling out to dead people?' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Are you not able to hear what I am saying to them?'"

"During the night, the Muslims heard the Messenger of Allah standing and calling out at the well of badr; 'O Abu Jahl bin Hisham! O Shaaibh bin Rabiah! O 'Utbah bin Rabiah! O Umayyah bin Khalaf! أَنَّهُ قَالَ سَمِعَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ نِدَاءَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ مِنْ جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ وَهُوَ عَلَى بِئْرِ بَدْرٍ يُنَادِي «يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ وَيَا عُتْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ وَيَا شَيْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ وَيَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنَ خَلَفٍ أَلَا هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا؟ » فَقَالَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ تُنَادِي قَوْمًا قَدْ جَيَّفُوا؟ ‍‍ فَقَالَ «مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ إِلَّا أَنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يُجِيبُونِي»

قَالَ سَمِعَ الْمُسْلِمُونَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يُنَادِي من الليل عَلَى قَلِيبِ) بَدْر يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ وَيا عُتْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ وَيَا شَيْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَة وَيَا أُمَيَّةُ بْنَ خَلَفٍ هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وعدكم ربكم حَقًّا فَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا؟ قَالُوا يَا رَسولَ اللهِ تُنَادِي قَوْمًا قَدْ صَارُوا جِيَفًا؟ قَالَ مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لما أقول منهم إلاَّ أنهم لا يستطيعون أَنْ يُجِيبُوا وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ بِهَذَا اللَّفْظِ عَن أَنَس إلاَّ حُمَيد وَقَدْ رَوَى ثابتٌ بعضَ هذا الكلام<

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ addressed the people of Qalib and said, "O people of Qalib, have you found what your Lord promised to be true?" They replied, "O Messenger of Allah, and do they hear?" He said, "They hear just as you hear, but they do not respond."

أَشْرَفَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقَلِيبِ فَقَالَ «يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا؟» فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَهَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ؟ قَالَ «يَسْمَعُونَ كَمَا تَسْمَعُونَ وَلَكِنْ لَا يُجِيبُونَ»

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood before the people of Qalib and said, "O people of Qalib, did you find what your Lord promised you to be true? For I have found that what my Lord promised me is true." They said, "O Messenger of Allah, can they hear us?" He said, "They cannot hear what I say to them, but today they do not respond."

وَقَفَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى أَهْلِ الْقَلِيبِ فَقَالَ «يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا؟ فَإِنِّي قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا» قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ؟ قَالَ «مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمُ الْيَوْمَ لَا يُجِيبُونَ»

قال وَرَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَائِمٌ يُنَادِي يَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشَامٍ يَا شَيْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ يَا عُتْبَةَ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ يَا أُمَيَّةَ بْنَ خَلَفٍ هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًّا؟ فَإِنِّي وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّي حَقًّا قَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَتُنَادِي قَوْمًا قَدْ جَيَّفُوا؟ قَالَ «مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ وَلَكِنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَطِيعُونَ أَنْ يُجِيبُوا»

" يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ: هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقّا؟ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ الله؛ وَهَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ؟ قَالَ: يَسْمَعُونَ كلمَا تَسْمَعُونَ وَلَكِنْ لا يُجيبُونَ ".

"يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ: هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقّا؟ فَإِنِّى قَدْ وَجَدَتُ مَا وَعَدَنِي رَبِّى حَقًا؟ قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ: هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ؟ قَالَ: مَا أَنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ، وَلَكِنَّهُمْ الْيَوْمَ لا يُجِيبُونَ ".

" يَا أَهْلَ الْقَلِيبِ: هَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقّا؟ فَإِنِّى قَدْ وَجَدْتُ مَا وَعَدَنِى ربِّى حَقًا، قَالُوا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تُكَلِّمُ أَقْوامًا مَوْتَى؟ قَالَ: لَقَدْ عَلِمُوا أَنَّ ما وَعَدَهُمْ رَبُّهُمْ حَقٌّ ".

"عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ: وَقَفَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ عَلَى القَلِيبِ، قَالَ: أيْنَ أبُو جَهْلِ بنُ هِشَامٍ؟ وَأَيْنَ عتبَةُ بْنُ رَبِيعَةَ؟ وَأيْنَ الوَلِيدُ بنُ عتبَةَ؟ وَأيْنَ فُلاَنُ بنُ فُلاَنٍ؟ بِئْسَ عَشيَرةُ النَّبِىِّ كُنتُمْ، وَبِئسَ بَنُو عَمِّ النَّبِىِّ كُنتُمْ، هَلْ وَجَدتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقّا؟ قَالَ عُمَرُ: بِأبى أَنْتَ وَأمِّى يَا رَسُولَ الله، هَلْ يَسْمَعُونَ كلاَمَكَ الساعَةَ؟ قَدْ جيَّفُوا، قَالَ: وَالَّذِى بَعَثَنِى بِالحَق إِنَّهُمْ لَيَسْمَعُونَ كمَا تَسْمَعُ، وَلكِنْ لاَ يَقْدرُونَ أَنْ يُجيبُوا".

"عَنِ ابْن عُمَرَ قَالَ: وَقَفَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ عَلَى القَلِيبِ يَوْمَ بَدْرٍ فَقَالَ: يَا عُقْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، وَيَا شَيْبَةُ بْنَ رَبِيعَةَ، وَيَا أَبَا جَهْلِ بْنَ هِشامٍ، يَا فُلاَنُ يَا فُلاَنُ قَدْ وَجدْنا مَا وَعَدَنَا رَبُّنا حَقًا، فَهَلْ وَجَدْتُمْ مَا وَعَدَ رَبُّكُمْ حَقًا؟ قَالُوا: أَلَيْسُوا أَمْواتًا؟ قَالَ: وَالَّذِى نَفْسِى بِيَدِهِ إِنَّهُمْ لَيسْمَعُونَ قَوْلِى الآنَ كمَا تَسْمَعُونَ، مَا أنْتُمْ بِأَسْمَعَ لِمَا أَقُولُ مِنْهُمْ".
