The Prophet ﷺ said: He said: He who sticks to a king is perverted. This version adds: The nearer a servant (of Allah) goes to a king, the farther he keeps away from Allah.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمَعْنَى مُسَدَّدٍ قَالَ وَمَنْ لَزِمَ السُّلْطَانَ افْتُتِنَ زَادَ وَمَا ازْدَادَ عَبْدٌ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ دُنُوًّا إِلاَّ ازْدَادَ مِنَ اللَّهِ بُعْدًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Whoever starts a conflict will face hostility, whoever follows desires will neglect their responsibilities, and whoever approaches the doors of authority will be tested. And no servant increases in proximity to authority except that they increase in distance from Allah ﷻ."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ بَدَا جَفَا وَمَنْ تَبِعَ الصَّيْدَ غَفَلَ وَمَنْ أَتَى أَبْوَابَ السُّلْطَانِ افْتُتِنَ وَمَا ازْدَادَ عَبْدٌ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ قُرْبًا إِلَّا ازْدَادَ مِنَ اللهِ ﷻ بُعْدًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah said, "Whoever initiates hostility, whoever follows the game (i.e., seeks to profit from corruption), and whoever approaches the gates of the ruler is tempted. And no servant strengthens his relationship with the ruler, except that it increases his distance with Allah."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ بَدَا جَفَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ الصَّيْدَ غَفَلَ وَمَنْ أَتَى أَبْوَابَ السُّلْطَانِ افْتُتِنَ وَمَا ازْدَادَ عَبْدٌ مِنَ السُّلْطَانِ قُرْبًا إِلَّا ازْدَادَ مِنَ اللهِ بُعْدًا  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Whoever starts a conflict, he is unjust, and whoever follows the game, he is heedless, and whoever approaches the doors of the ruler, he is tempted, and no servant increases in proximity to the ruler, except that he increases in distancing himself from Allah." And it was narrated by someone other than Al-Nakha'i, from 'Adi, from a Sheikh of the Ansar, from Abu Hurairah, from the Prophet ﷺ with its meaning.  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَنْ بَدَا جَفَا وَمَنِ اتَّبَعَ الصَّيْدَ غَفَلَ وَمَنْ أَتَى أَبْوَابَ السُّلْطَانِ يُفْتَتَنْ وَمَا ازْدَادَ عَبْدٌ مِنْ سُلْطَانٍ قُرْبًا إِلَّا ازْدَادَ مِنَ اللهِ بُعْدًا وَرَوَاهُ غَيْرُهُ عَنِ النَّخَعِيِّ عَنْ عَدِيٍّ عَنْ شَيْخٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ بِمَعْنَاهُ  

"مَنْ بَدَا جَفَا، وَمَنْ تَبِعَ الصَّيدَ غَفَلَ، وَمَنْ أَتَى السُّلطَانَ افْتُتِنَ".
