The Sahabi who drank alcohol and made the Prophet ﷺ laugh
During the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ there was a man called ʿAbdullah whose nickname was Donkey, and he used to make Messenger of Allah ﷺ laugh. The Prophet ﷺ lashed him because of drinking (alcohol).
And one-day he was brought to the Prophet ﷺ on the same charge and was lashed. On that, a man among the people said, "O Allah, curse him ! How frequently he has been brought (to the Prophet ﷺ on such a charge)!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Do not curse him, for by Allah, I know for he loves Allah and His Apostle."

A man had the nickname Himār (donkey) and he used to give the Prophet ﷺ a gift of a vessel of ghee and a vessel of honey. When the owner thereof came to ask him to pay for these things, he would bring him to the Prophet ﷺ and say: O Messenger of Allah, give this man the price of his goods, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ would do no more than smile and give instructions that he be paid. One day he was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ having drunk alcohol. A man said: O Allah, curse him, how often he is brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ! But the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not curse him, for he loves Allah and His Messenger."
