Collected by Bukhārī, Muslim, Abū Dāwūd, Nasāʾī, Aḥmad, Ibn Ḥibbān, Nasāʾī's Kubrá, Bayhaqī, SuyūṭīI asked Ibn ʿUmar about those who were involved in a case of Lien. He said, "The Prophet ﷺ said to those who were involved in a case of Lien, 'Your accounts are with Allah. One of you two is a liar, and you (the husband) have no right over her (she is divorced)." The man said, 'What about my property (Mahr) ?' The Prophet ﷺ said, 'You have no right to get back your property. If you have told the truth about her then your property was for the consummation of your marriage with her; and if you told a lie about her, then you are less rightful to get your property back.' " Sufyan, a sub-narrator said: I learned the Hadith from ʿAmr. Narrated Aiyub: I heard Saʿid bin Jubair saying, "I asked Ibn ʿUmar, 'If a man (accuses his wife for an illegal sexual intercourse and) carries out the process of Lian (what will happen)?' Ibn ʿUmar set two of his fingers apart. (Sufyan set his index finger and middle finger apart.) Ibn ʿUmar said, 'The Prophet ﷺ separated the couple of Bani Al-Ajlan by divorce and said thrice, "Allah knows that one of you two is a liar; so will one of you repent (to Allah)?' "

The Prophet ﷺ said to those who were involved in a case of Lian, "Your accounts are with Allah. One of you two is a liar. You (husband) have right on her (wife)." The husband said, "My money, O Allah's Apostle!" The Prophet ﷺ said, "You are not entitled to take back any money. If you have told the truth, the Mahr that you paid, was for having sexual relations with her lawfully; and if you are a liar, then you are less entitled to get it back."

Your account is with Allah. One of you must be a liar. You have now no right over this woman. He said: Messenger of Allah, what about my wealth (dower that I paid her at the time of marriage)? He said: You have no claim to wealth. If you tell the truth, it (dower) is the recompense for your having had the right to intercourse with her, and if you tell a lie against her, it is still more remote from you than she is. Zuhair said in his narration: Sufyan reported to us on the authority of 'Amr that he had heard Sa'id b Jubair saying: I heard Ibn Umar (Allah be pleased with them) saying that Messenger of Allah ﷺ had said it.

I asked Ibn 'Umar about the two who engage in Li'an. He said: 'The Messenger of Allah said to the two who engaged in Li'an: Your reckoning will be with Allah. One of you is lying, and you cannot stay with her. He said: O Messenger of Allah, my wealth! He said: You are not entitled to any wealth. If you are telling the truth about her, then it is in return for having been allowed intimacy with her, and if you are lying then you are even less entitled to it."

[AI] "Allah ﷺ says to the two cursed ones, 'Your judgment is with Allah. One of you is a liar and there is no means of escape for you.' So one of them said, 'O Messenger of Allah, what is my wealth?' He replied, 'You have no wealth, if you were truthful then it is with the wealth that you wrongfully acquired from her, and if you lied about her then that is further away from you.' They mentioned this in the authentic hadith as was narrated by Abdullah bin Mas'ood, Abdullah bin Umar, Abdullah bin Abbas, and Anas bin Malik. And in that is an indication of their witnessing, along with others, their cursing each other. And Allah knows best."

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to the two curse-invokers, "Your account is with Allah. One of you is a liar, and there is no way for you to avoid it." One of them said, "O Messenger of Allah, what is mine is mine." He ﷺ said, "If you are truthful about it, then it is what you have legally acquired from her private part. But if you are lying about it, then it is further away from you than her (private part). This was reported in the authentic Hadith by Sufyan, as it has been transmitted to us from Muhammad ibn Zaid, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Umar, from the Prophet ﷺ , who said, "When two curse-invokers separate, they will never come together again."
