Messenger of Allah, I find a change in your mood today. Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Gabriel had promised me that he would meet me tonight, but he did not meet me. By Allah, he never broke his promises, and Messenger of Allah ﷺ spent the day in this sad (mood). Then it occurred to him that there had been a puppy under their cot. He commanded and it was turned out. He then took some water in his hand and sprinkled it at that place. When it was evening Gabriel met him and he said to him: you promised me that you would meet me the previous night. He said: Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture. Then on that very morning he commanded the killing of the dogs until he announced that the dog kept for the orchards should also be killed, but he spared the dog meant for the protection of extensive fields (or big gardens).  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ أَصْبَحَ يَوْمًا وَاجِمًا فَقَالَتْ مَيْمُونَةُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ لَقَدِ اسْتَنْكَرْتُ هَيْئَتَكَ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ كَانَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَلْقَانِي اللَّيْلَةَ فَلَمْ يَلْقَنِي أَمَ وَاللَّهِ مَا أَخْلَفَنِي قَالَ فَظَلَّ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَهُ ذَلِكَ عَلَى ذَلِكَ ثُمَّ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِهِ جِرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ فُسْطَاطٍ لَنَا فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ مَكَانَهُ فَلَمَّا أَمْسَى لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ فَقَالَ لَهُ قَدْ كُنْتَ وَعَدْتَنِي أَنْ تَلْقَانِي الْبَارِحَةَ قَالَ أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّا لاَ نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلاَ صُورَةٌ فَأَصْبَحَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَوْمَئِذٍ فَأَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلاَبِ حَتَّى إِنَّهُ يَأْمُرُ بِقَتْلِ كَلْبِ الْحَائِطِ الصَّغِيرِ وَيَتْرُكُ كَلْبَ الْحَائِطِ الْكَبِيرِ  

Maimunah, wife of the Prophet ﷺ reported him as saying: Gabriel (peace be upon him) promised to visit me last night, but he did not visit me. Then it occurred to him that there was a pup under his bed. So he ordered and it was turned out. He then got water in his hand and sprinkled it on its place. When Gabriel ﷺ met him, he said: We do not enter a house which contains a dog or a picture. When the morning came, the Prophet ﷺ ordered to kill dogs. He ordered to kill the dog which guarded a small orchard, and left the dog which guarded the big orchard.  

حَدَّثَتْنِي مَيْمُونَةُ زَوْجُ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ جِبْرِيلَ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ كَانَ وَعَدَنِي أَنْ يَلْقَانِيَ اللَّيْلَةَ فَلَمْ يَلْقَنِي ثُمَّ وَقَعَ فِي نَفْسِهِ جَرْوُ كَلْبٍ تَحْتَ بِسَاطٍ لَنَا فَأَمَرَ بِهِ فَأُخْرِجَ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِهِ مَاءً فَنَضَحَ بِهِ مَكَانَهُ فَلَمَّا لَقِيَهُ جِبْرِيلُ عَلَيْهِ السَّلاَمُ قَالَ إِنَّا لاَ نَدْخُلُ بَيْتًا فِيهِ كَلْبٌ وَلاَ صُورَةٌ فَأَصْبَحَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَ بِقَتْلِ الْكِلاَبِ حَتَّى إِنَّهُ لَيَأْمُرُ بِقَتْلِ كَلْبِ الْحَائِطِ الصَّغِيرِ وَيَتْرُكُ كَلْبَ الْحَائِطِ الْكَبِيرِ  

[Machine] "Narrated by Maymunah, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ , she said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ woke up feeling unwell one morning. So, it was said to him, 'What is wrong with you, O Messenger of Allah? You woke up feeling unwell?' He replied, 'Gabriel promised to meet me, but he did not come, and he has never broken his promise to me. He did not come to me that night, nor the second night, nor the third night.' Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ blamed a female dog that was under our niche and he commanded it to be removed. He then took some water and washed the place where it had been. Gabriel ﷺ came and said, 'You promised me, yet I did not see you.' The Prophet ﷺ replied, 'We do not enter a house that has a dog or a picture.' On that day, he commanded the killing of dogs, even seeking permission to kill a small dog that was by the wall.'"

"The Messenger of Allah was upset one morning and Maimunah said to him: "O Messenger of Allah, you look upset today., He said: 'Jibril, peace be upon him, had promised to meet me last night but he did not come, and by Allah, he never failed to keep an appointment,; The day passed, then he thought of a puppy that was beneath a table of ours. He ordered that it be taken out, and then he took some water In his hand and sprinkled it over the place where it had been. That evening, Jibril, peace be upon him, came and met him. The Messenger of Allah said to him: 'You [promised to meet me last night,; He said: 'Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture,; the next day the Messenger of Allah Commanded that dogs be killed." [Machine] Maymuna, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, told me that one day the Messenger of Allah woke up feeling ill. Maymuna said to him, "O Messenger of Allah, I noticed something different about your appearance today." He replied, "Indeed, Jibril (Gabriel) had promised to meet me last night, but he did not come. I swear by Allah, he has never broken a promise to me before." Maymuna said, "So his day passed in this manner, and he kept feeling discomfort in his chest. Then, a dog came and lay down near us. He ordered it to be taken out, and then he took water in his hand and sprinkled it in the spot where the dog had been lying. When evening came, Jibril met him and the Messenger of Allah said to him, 'You promised to meet me last night.' Jibril replied, 'Yes, but we do not enter a house in which there is a dog or a picture.' On that day, the Messenger of Allah commanded for dogs to be killed, to the extent that he would order the killing of a dog that was in the house, while leaving the large dog in the courtyard."
