There was a dispute between the Hell and the Paradise and it (the Hell) said: The haughty and the proud would find abode in me. And the Paradise said: The meek and the humble would find their abode in me. Thereupon Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, (addressing the Hell) said: You are (the means) of My punishment by which I punish those of My servants whom I wish. (And addressing the Paradise) He said: You are only My Mercy by means of which 1 shall show mercy to those whom I wish, but each one of you would be full.  

مسلم:٢٨٤٦aحَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي عُمَرَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ قَالَ

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ احْتَجَّتِ النَّارُ وَالْجَنَّةُ فَقَالَتْ هَذِهِ يَدْخُلُنِي الْجَبَّارُونَ وَالْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَقَالَتْ هَذِهِ يَدْخُلُنِي الضُّعَفَاءُ وَالْمَسَاكِينُ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ ﷻ لِهَذِهِ أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُعَذِّبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَرُبَّمَا قَالَ أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَقَالَ لِهَذِهِ أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أَرْحَمُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا

"Paradise and the Fire debated. Paradise said: 'The weak and the poor shall enter me,' and the Fire said: 'The tyrants and the proud shall enter me.' Abū ʿĪsá said that this Ḥadīth is Ḥasan-Ṣaḥīḥ.

[Machine] "Abdullah and I heard from Uthman, who narrated from Jarir, who narrated from Al-A'mash, who narrated from Abu Salih, who narrated from Abu Sa'id Al-Khudri, that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Paradise and Hell argued amongst themselves. Hell said, 'I am inhabited by the arrogant and the tyrants.' Paradise said, 'I am inhabited by the weak and the poor among the people.' Then Allah decided between them, saying, 'Indeed, you, Paradise, are My mercy; I will have mercy through you on whomever I will. And you, Hell, are My punishment; I will punish through you whomever I will. And each of you will be filled.'"

عَبْدُ اللهِ وَسَمِعْتُهُ أَنَا مِنْ عُثْمَانَ حَدَّثَنَا جَرِيرٌ عَنْ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ أَبِي صَالِحٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ احْتَجَّتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ فِيَّ الْجَبَّارُونَ وَالْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ فِيَّ ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ وَمَسَاكِينُهُمْ قَالَ فَقَضَى بَيْنَهُمَا إِنَّكِ الْجَنَّةُ رَحْمَتِي أَرْحَمُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَإِنَّكِ النَّارُ عَذَابِي أُعَذِّبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَلِكِلَاكُمَا عَلَيَّ مِلْؤُهَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Paradise and Hellfire disputed among themselves. Hellfire said, 'I shall be inhabited by the arrogant, tyrannical, and the nobles.' Paradise said, 'I shall be inhabited by the poor and the needy.' Allah (Glory be to Him) said to Hellfire, 'You are My punishment, and I shall fill you with whoever I will.' And He said to Paradise, 'You are My mercy, and you are spacious enough to accommodate everything. Each one of you will be filled.'"  

ابن حبّان:٧٤٥٤أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ الصَّيْرَفِيُّ غُلَامُ طَالُوتَ بْنِ عَبَّادٍ بِالْبَصْرَةِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا هُدْبَةُ بْنُ خَالِدٍ الْقَيْسِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عَطَاءُ بْنُ السَّائِبِ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُتْبَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «افْتَخَرَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ يَدْخُلُنِي الْجَبَّارُونَ وَالْمُلُوكُ وَالْأَشْرَافُ وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ يَدْخُلُنِي الْفُقَرَاءُ وَالْمَسَاكِينُ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ جَلَّ وَعَلَا لِلنَّارِ أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي وَسِعْتِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا»  

ذِكْرُ الْبَيَانِ بِأَنَّ أَكْثَرَ أَهْلِ النَّارِ يَكُونُ الْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَالْجَبَّارُونَ

[Machine] On the authority of the Prophet, ﷺ , he said, "Paradise and Hell disputed with one another. Hell said, 'I shall be filled with the proud and the tyrants.' Paradise said, 'I shall be filled with the weak and oppressed people.' Allah said to Hell, 'Indeed, you are My punishment, and I will fill you with whomever I wish.' And He said to Paradise, 'Indeed, you are My mercy, and I will fill you with whomever I wish. And each of you shall be filled to the full extent.'"  

ابن حبّان:٧٤٧٦أَخْبَرَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بِبُسْتٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْمِقْدَامِ الْعِجْلِيُّ يَقُولُ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الطُّفَاوِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «اخْتَصَمَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَالنَّارُ فَقَالَتِ النَّارُ يَدْخُلُنِي الْجَبَّارُونَ وَالْمُتَكَبِّرُونَ وَقَالَتِ الْجَنَّةُ يَدْخُلُنِي ضُعَفَاءُ النَّاسِ وَأَسْقَاطُهُمْ فَقَالَ اللَّهُ لِلنَّارِ أَنْتِ عَذَابِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَقَالَ لِلْجَنَّةِ أَنْتِ رَحْمَتِي أُصِيبُ بِكِ مَنْ أَشَاءُ وَلِكُلِّ وَاحِدَةٍ مِنْكُمَا مِلْؤُهَا»

"احتجت الجنةُ والنارُ، فقالت الجنة: يدخلنى الضعفاءُ والمساكينُ، وقالتُ النارُ: يدخلنى الجبَّارونَ والمتكَبِّرونُ، فقال اللهُ للنارِ: أنتِ عذابى أنتقم بك ممن شئت، وقال للجنة: أنتِ رحمتى أرحمُ بك من شِئْتُ، ولكل واحدةٍ منكما مِلْؤُها".
