ibnmajah:111 – ʿAlī b. Muḥammad > ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs > Hishām b. Ḥassān > Muḥammad b. Sīrīn > Kaʿb b. ʿUjrah

"The Messenger of Allah mentioned a Fitnah (tribulation) that had drawn nigh. Then a man passed by with his head covered. The Messenger of Allah said: 'On that day, this man will be following right guidance.' I leapt up and took hold of 'Uthman's arms, then I turned to face the Messenger of Allah and said: 'This man?' He said: 'This man.'"  

ابن ماجة:١١١ – حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ إِدْرِيسَ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ قَالَ

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فِتْنَةً فَقَرَّبَهَا فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ مُقَنَّعٌ رَأْسُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ هَذَا يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى فَوَثَبْتُ فَأَخَذْتُ بِضَبْعَىْ عُثْمَانَ ثُمَّ اسْتَقْبَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا قَالَ هَذَا

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioned a trial and emphasized its seriousness. Then a man with disheveled hair passed by, and he said, "This is the truth today," and I quickly followed him or said, "I caught up with him," and I held his thumb and said, "Is this you, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "No, that is Uthman ibn Affan."  

أحمد:١٨١١٨ – حَدَّثَنَا إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ سُلَيْمَانَ الرَّازِيُّ أَخْبَرَنِي مُغِيرَةُ بْنُ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ مَطَرٍ الْوَرَّاقِ عَنِ ابْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ قَالَ

ذَكَرَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فِتْنَةً فَقَرَّبَهَا وَعَظَّمَهَا قَالَ ثُمَّ مَرَّ رَجُلٌ مُتَقَنِّعٌ فِي مِلْحَفَةٍ فَقَالَ هَذَا يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْحَقِّ فَانْطَلَقْتُ مُسْرِعًا أَوْ قَالَ مُحْضِرًا فَأَخَذْتُ بِضَبْعَيْهِ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ هَذَا فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ  

ahmad:18129 – Yazīd > Hishām > Muḥammad > Kaʿb b. ʿUjrah

[Machine] I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , and he mentioned a trial and drew it near. Then a man passed by wearing a turban, and he said, "This person today is upon guidance." He (the Prophet) said, "So I followed him until I held onto his two fingers, and I turned his face towards me and revealed his head, and I said, 'Is this you, O Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'Yes, indeed, this is 'Uthman ibn 'Affan.'"  

أحمد:١٨١٢٩ – حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا هِشَامٌ عَنْ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَةَ قَالَ

كُنْتُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَذَكَرَ فِتْنَةً فَقَرَّبَهَا فَمَرَّ رَجُلٌ مُتَقَنِّعٌ فَقَالَ هَذَا يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى قَالَ فَاتَّبَعْتُهُ حَتَّى أَخَذْتُ بِضَبْعَيْهِ فَحَوَّلْتُ وَجْهَهُ إِلَيْهِ وَكَشَفْتُ عَنْ رَأْسِهِ فَقُلْتُ هَذَا يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ  

hakim:4552 – Muḥammad b. Ṣāliḥ b. Hāniʾ > al-Ḥusayn b. al-Faḍl al-Bajalī > ʿAffān > Wuhayb > Ayyūb > Abū Qilābah > Abū al-Ashʿath > Murrah b. Kaʿb

[Machine] "I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ mentioning a trial that would cause poverty. Then, a masked man dressed in a garment passed by him. The Prophet ﷺ said, 'This person today is on the right guidance.' I approached him and behold, it was Uthman ibn Affan. I turned towards him and asked, 'Is it you?' He replied, 'Yes.'"  

الحاكم:٤٥٥٢ – حَدَّثَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ صَالِحِ بْنِ هَانِئٍ ثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْبَجَلِيُّ ثنا عَفَّانُ ثنا وُهَيْبٌ ثنا أَيُّوبُ عَنْ أَبِي قِلَابَةَ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَشْعَثِ عَنْ مُرَّةَ بْنِ كَعْبٍ قَالَ

سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَذْكُرُ فِتْنَةً فَقَرَّ بِهَا فَمَرَّ بِهِ رَجُلٌ مُقَنَّعٌ فِي ثَوْبٍ فَقَالَ «هَذَا يَوْمَئِذٍ عَلَى الْهُدَى» فَقُمْتُ إِلَيْهِ فَإِذَا هُوَ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ فَأَقْبَلْتُ إِلَيْهِ بِوَجْهِهِ فَقُلْتُ هُوَ هَذَا؟ قَالَ «نَعَمْ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ على شرط البخاري ومسلم

[Machine] I was with the Prophet ﷺ when he mentioned a trial, so he brought it closer. Then a masked man passed by and said, "This is the truth today." So, I stood up and held him by his two fingers, and I turned his face towards the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, is this him?" He said, "Yes." It was Uthman ibn Affan.  

الطبراني:١٦٤٧٠ – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ النَّضْرِ الْأَزْدِيُّ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ يُونُسَ ثنا أَبُو شِهَابٍ عَنْ هِشَامِ بْنِ حَسَّانٍ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سِيرِينَ عَنْ كَعْبِ بْنِ عُجْرَة قَالَ
