[Machine] And there was a man named Sahl, who was fair-skinned. He said, "I have never seen a day like today, nor a virgin with such fair skin." Sahl then began to suffer from a severe headache. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that Sahl was suffering and that there was no strong smell coming from him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to him and informed him that Sahl had a condition that was unique to him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "Why does one of you kill his brother? Have you not heard that the evil eye is a reality? So perform ablution for it." Amar bin Rabi'ah performed ablution for Sahl and Sahl accompanied the Messenger of Allah ﷺ without any harm.

malik:50-1Yaḥyá > Mālik > Muḥammad b. Abū Umāmah b. Sahl b. Ḥunayf from his father

Yahya related to me from Malik that Muhammad ibn Abi Umama ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf heard his father say, "My father, Sahl ibn Hunayf did a ghusl at al-Kharrar. He removed the jubbah he had on while Amir ibn Rabia was watching, and Sahl was a man with beautiful white skin. Amir said to him, 'I have never seen anything like what I have seen today, not even the skin of a virgin.' Sahl fell ill on the spot, and his condition grew worse. Somebody went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and told him that Sahl was ill, and could not go with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him, and Sahl told him what had happened with Amir. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Why does one of you kill his brother? Why did you not say, "May Allah bless you?" (ta baraka-llah) The evil eye is true. Do wudu from it.' Amir did wudu from it and Sahl went with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and there was nothing wrong with him."

[Machine] And there was an easy man who was white and of good character. 'Amir ibn Rabiah said to him, "I have never seen anyone like you before." He looked at him and was amazed by his beauty when he removed his turban. 'Amir said, "Or a slave girl under her veil with a better body than that of Sahl ibn Hunaif?" Sahl was shocked by this, and his condition worsened. He went to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him that Sahl ibn Hunaif was in a bad condition and that his smell had changed. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him and they informed him about what 'Amir had done. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "How can any of you kill his brother? Indeed, the evil eye is a reality, so wash yourself for it." Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "When one of you sees something that he likes, let him seek blessings, for the evil eye is real." And these are the additional narrations in both of these hadiths that Al-Dhahabi did not mention in his shortened version.

[Machine] Ameer ibn Rabee'ah, the brother of Bani Adi ibn Ka'b, saw Sahl ibn Hunayf while he was with the Messenger of Allahﷺ taking a bath in Al-Kharrar. Ameer said, "By Allah, I have never seen anything like today, not even a hidden skin." Sahl was struck with boils, so he went to the Prophetﷺ and it was said, "O Messenger of Allah, do you have any objection against Sahl ibn Hunayf who has not raised his head?" The Messenger of Allahﷺ asked, "Are you accusing someone?" They replied, "Yes, Ameer ibn Rabee'ah saw him while he was taking a bath." Ameer said, "By Allah, I have never seen anything like today, not even a hidden skin." So the Messenger of Allahﷺ called Ameer ibn Rabee'ah and became angry with him, saying, "Why would any one of you kill his brother? Would you not bless him? Take a bath for him." So Ameer performed the ritual bath for him, and Sahl continued with the journey without any harm.

[Machine] Amir ibn Rabee'ah, the brother of Bani Adi ibn Ka'b, saw Sahl ibn Hunayf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ at Al-Kharrar while he was performing ritual ablution. Amir said, "By Allah, I have never seen anything like what I have seen today, not even hidden scars on his body." Sahl overheard this and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was informed about it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked, "Do you accuse him of anything?" They replied, "Yes, Amir ibn Rabee'ah passed by him while he was performing ablution and made that statement." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called Amir ibn Rabee'ah and expressed his anger towards him, saying, "Why would one of you kill his brother? Shouldn't you have blessed him? Perform ablution for him." So, Amir ibn Rabee'ah performed ablution for Sahl, and Sahl continued his journey with the caravan unharmed.

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik, from Muhammad ibn Abi Umamah ibn Sahl ibn Hunayf, that he heard his father say: Sahl ibn Hunayf performed ghusl (ritual washing) in the kharrar (a well or pool) and removed a garment that he had on. Al-Aamir ibn Rabeea looked at him and said, "I have never seen today, nor have I seen the skin of a virgin, as beautiful as yours." So Sahl became distracted and his condition worsened. They informed the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , that Sahl was in a state of distress and had an unpleasant odor. So the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , went to him and Sahl informed him about Al-Aamir's comment. The Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , said, "Why would one of you kill his brother? Would you not have blessed him by performing ablution for him?" So Al-Aamir performed ablution for him, and Sahl accompanied the Messenger of Allah, ﷺ , without any harm.
