ذِكْرُ الْأَمْرِ بِصِيَامِ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ إِذْ الْيَهُودُ كَانَتْ تَتَّخِذُهُ عِيدًا فَلَا تَصُومُهُ

[Machine] The Jews used to consider the day of Ashura as a holiday, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Oppose them, and fast on that day yourselves."  

ابن حبّان:٣٦٢٧ – أَخْبَرَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْهَمْدَانِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِشْكَابَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ غِيَاثٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنْ أَبِي عُمَيْسٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى قَالَ

كَانَتْ يَهُودُ تَتَّخِذُ يَوْمَ عَاشُورَاءَ عِيدًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «خَالِفُوهُمْ صُومُوا أَنْتُمْ»

The day of 'Ashura was one which the Jews respected and they treated it as Id. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You also observe fast on this day.  

مسلم:١١٣١a – وَحَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ وَابْنُ نُمَيْرٍ قَالاَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو أُسَامَةَ عَنْ أَبِي عُمَيْسٍ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ عَنْ طَارِقِ بْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي مُوسَى ؓ قَالَ

كَانَ يَوْمُ عَاشُورَاءَ يَوْمًا تُعَظِّمُهُ الْيَهُودُ وَتَتَّخِذُهُ عِيدًا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صُومُوهُ أَنْتُمْ
