ذِكْرُ الْعُذْرِ الْعَاشِرِ: وَهُوَ أَكْلُ الْإِنْسَانِ الثُّومَ وَالْبَصَلَ إِلَى أَنْ يَذْهَبَ رِيحُهَا

ibnhibban:2085ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad b. Salm > Ḥarmalah b. Yaḥyá > Ibn Wahb > ʿAmr b. al-Ḥārith > Bakr b. Sawādah > Abū al-Najīb a freed slave of ʿAbdullāh b. Saʿd > Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī

The garlic and onions were mentioned before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He was told: The most severe of them is garlic. Would you make it unlawful? The Prophet ﷺ said: Eat it, and he who eats it should not come near this mosque until its odour goes away. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3823)  

ابن حبّان:٢٠٨٥أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ سَلْمٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا حَرْمَلَةُ بْنُ يَحْيَى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ وَهْبٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي عَمْرُو بْنُ الْحَارِثِ عَنْ بَكْرِ بْنِ سَوَادَةَ أَنَّ أَبَا النَّجِيبِ مَوْلَى عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ أَبَا سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيَّ حَدَّثَهُ

أَنَّهُ ذِكْرُ عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ الثُّومُ وَالْبَصَلُ وَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ وَأَشَدُّ ذَلِكَ كُلِّهِ الثُّومُ أَفَنُحَرِّمُهُ؟ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «كُلُوهُ وَمَنْ أَكَلَهُ مِنْكُمْ فَلَا يَقْرَبْ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدَ حَتَّى تَذْهَبَ رِيحُهُ»
