ibnhibban:4213al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Ḥarmalah > Ibn Wahb > Sulaymān b. Bilāl > Yaḥyá b. Saʿīd al-Anṣārī Warabīʿah b. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥman > al-Qāsim > ʿĀʾishah

"The Messenger of Allah commanded the wife of Abu Hudhaifah to breast-feed Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifah, so that the protective jealousy of Abu Hudhaifah would be dispelled. She breast-fed him when he was a man." (One of the narrators) Rabi'ah said: "That was a concession granted to Salim." (Using translation from Nasāʾī 3321)

ibnhibban:4214ʿAbdullāh b. Muḥammad al-Azdī > Isḥāq b. Ibrāhīm > ʿAbd al-Razzāq > Maʿmar > al-Zuhrī > ʿUrwah > ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] Sahlah, the daughter of Suhail, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, Salim is called upon by his father Hudhaifah and he stays with him. He comes to see me privately while we are in a small house. And Allah says: 'Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah.' [33:5]" So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Breastfeed him, and he will be forbidden for you [to marry]."

ibnhibban:4215ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Sinān al-Ṭāʾī > Aḥmad b. Abū Bakr > Mālik > Ibn Shihāb > Suʾil > Raḍāʿah al-Kabīr > ʿUrwah b. al-Zubayr

[Machine] That Abu Hudhaifa ibn Utbah ibn Rabiah was one of the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he had participated in the Battle of Badr. He had adopted a man named Salim, who was called Salim, the freed slave of Abu Hudhaifa. Similar to how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had adopted Zaid ibn Haritha. Abu Hudhaifa had married Salim to his nephew's daughter, Fatimah bint al-Walid ibn Utbah. At that time, she was one of the early emigrants (muhajirat) and it was then considered one of the best days for the Quraysh. When Allah revealed in regard to Zaid ibn Haritha what He revealed, saying, "Call them by [the names of] their fathers; it is more just in the sight of Allah. But if you do not know their fathers - then they are [still] your brothers in religion and those entrusted to you," everyone who had adopted such individuals had them returned to their own fathers. And if their fathers were not known, they were returned to their masters. Then Sahla bint Suhail, the wife of Abu Hudhaifa from the tribe of Banu 'Amir ibn Luay, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and said, "O Messenger of Allah, we used to consider Salim as our son, and he would enter upon me freely, while we have only one house. What do you think about this matter?" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Breastfeed him five times with your milk, and he would then be prohibited for you by the bond of fosterage."

ibnhibban:4216Abū Yaʿlá > Khalaf b. Hishām al-Bazzār > Ḥammād b. Zayd > Ayyūb > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > ʿUqbah b. al-Ḥārith

"I married Umm Yahya daughter of Abu Ihab. A black woman entered upon us. She said that she had suckled both of us. So I came to the Prophet ﷺ, and amentioned it to him. He turned away from me. I said (to him): Messenger of Allah! she is a liar. He said: What do you know? She has said what she has said. Separate yourself from her (wife). (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 3603)

ibnhibban:4217Muḥammad b. ʿUmar b. Yūsuf > Naṣr b. ʿAlī > Yazīd > Ibn Jurayj > Ibn Abū Mulaykah > ʿUqbah b. al-Ḥārith > Tazawwaj b. Abū Ihāb Fazaʿamat Āmraʾah Sawdāʾ

[Machine] He married the daughter of Abi Ihab and a black woman claimed that she breastfed them. So I went to the Prophet صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ and mentioned it to him, but he turned away from me. I then approached him from another side and said, "O Messenger of Allah, she is lying." He said, "How can that be when she claims to have breastfed both of you?" He forbade me from her. "

ibnhibban:4218al-Ḥasan b. Sufyān > Ḥabbān b. Mūsá > ʿAbdullāh > ʿUmar b. Saʿīd b. Abū Ḥusayn > ʿAbdullāh b. Abū Mulaykah > ʿUqbah b. al-Ḥārith > Tazawwaj Āb.ah Liʾabī Ihāb b. ʿAzīz Faʾatath Āmraʾah > Lah Qad Arḍaʿt ʿUqbah And al--Atī Tazawwaj

[Machine] He said, "I breastfed Uqbah, who married me, and Uqbah said to me, 'I don't know that you breastfed me and didn't inform me.' So he sent a message to the family of Abi Ihab and asked them, and they said, 'We don't know that she breastfed our companion.' Uqbah then rode to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in Medina and asked him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'How is it possible when it has already been mentioned?' So Uqbah left her and married someone else."

ibnhibban:4219al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb al-Jumaḥī > Dāwud b. Shabīb > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah > ʿUrwah > ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] She said, "My cousin, Abu Qays' brother, asked for permission to see me after the veil was struck upon us. So I said, 'I will not give you permission until the Prophet ﷺ comes.' When the Prophet ﷺ came, I sought his permission and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, my cousin, Abu Qays' brother, asked for permission to see me, but I refused to give him permission until I sought your permission. The wife of Abu Qays breastfed me, and Abu Qays did not breastfeed me.' He ﷺ said, 'Give him permission, for he is your uncle.'

ibnhibban:4220al-Faḍl b. al-Ḥubāb > Dāwud b. Shabīb > Ḥammād b. Salamah > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father > ʿĀʾishah

[Machine] "She said, 'The brother of my father's uncle, Qua'is, requested permission to see me after the veil was struck on us. So I said, 'I will not allow you until the Prophet ﷺ comes.' When the Prophet ﷺ came, I sought his permission and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, the brother of my father's uncle, Qua'is, requested permission to see me, and I refused to grant him permission until I seek your permission.
