[Machine] Hudhaifah, but I swear to Allah, I knew that we would return in defeat and we would not shed blood in it, and I did not know anything about it except what I knew. Muhammad ﷺ said, "A man may be a believer in the morning and a disbeliever in the evening, or he may be a believer in the evening and a disbeliever in the morning, and he may be fighting in the tribulation of the day and Allah Almighty will kill him tomorrow, his heart will change and he will be elevated." I said, "The lowest?" He said, "Yes, the lowest."

[Machine] So, I was sitting with Abi Mas'ud and Hudhayfah when Abi Mas'ud said, "I used to not see a person who would abandon something, in which blood was shed." Hudhayfah said, "But I knew [that] if you were to abandon walking with something on your back in which no blood was shed, and I didn't know any of that except what I knew, Muhammad ﷺ is alive. Indeed, a man may become a believer in the morning and then in the evening lose whatever he had and in the evening a believer and in the morning have whatever he didn't have. He fights against his own people today and then Allah kills him tomorrow and his heart flips inside out." I said, "Does his heart flip inside out?" He said, "It does."

[Machine] "That these people return and no bloodshed occurs in it, and I did not know anything about it except for what I have informed and Muhammad, peace be upon him, is alive. He said, 'A person may become a believer in the morning and turn into a disbeliever in the evening, or he may become a disbeliever in the evening and turn into a believer in the morning. He may fight in the morning while having nothing with him, but in the evening, Allah will cause him to be killed. His heart will turn upside down and he will raise his voice.' I said, 'The lowest of it?' He replied, 'Rather, the highest of it.'"
