[Machine] In the pre-Islamic era, people used to castrate camels and slaughter sheep to eat them. They would also carry the meat in pouches made from the animals' skin. When the Prophet ﷺ arrived, they asked him about this practice, and he said, "Whatever is cut from a living animal is considered dead."  

الحاكم:٧١٥٠ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو جَعْفَرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الْبَغْدَادِيُّ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْقَاضِي ثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ ثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي وَاقِدٍ اللَّيْثِيِّ قَالَ

كَانَ النَّاسُ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ قَبْلَ الْإِسْلَامِ يَجُبُّونَ أَسْنِمَةَ الْإِبِلِ وَيَقْطَعُونَ أَلْيَاتَ الْغَنَمِ فَيَأْكُلُونَهَا وَيَحْمِلُونَ مِنْهَا الْوَدَكَ فَلَمَّا قَدِمَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ سَأَلُوهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ فَقَالَ «مَا قُطِعَ مِنَ الْبَهِيمَةِ وَهِيَ حَيَّةٌ فَهُوَ مَيِّتٌ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ وَقَدْ قِيلَ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ أَسْلَمَ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ يَسَارٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ ؓ صحيح
