[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ said, "I swear by the One in whose hand is my soul, he can hear the sound of their footsteps when they turn away from him." Then he mentioned the hadith in a similar manner, except that the hadith of Sa'id ibn 'Amir is more complete.  

عَنِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ قَالَ «وَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ إِنَّهُ لَيَسْمَعُ خَفْقَ نِعَالِهِمْ حِينَ يُوَلُّونَ عَنْهُ» ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ بِنَحْوِهِ إِلَّا أَنَّ حَدِيثَ سَعِيدِ بْنِ عَامِرٍ أَتَمُّ  

[Machine] From Abu Hurairah, in his saying, Almighty and Sublime: "In a narrow means of subsistence" [Taha 124], he said, "the punishment of the grave."  

عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فِي قَوْلِهِ ﷻ {مَعِيشَةً ضَنْكًا} [طه 124] قَالَ «عَذَابُ الْقَبْرِ»  

[Machine] The Prophet ﷺ went out for a funeral procession with Umar ibn Al-Khattab. He heard women crying, so Umar raised his voice to calm them. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to Umar, "O Umar, let them be, for the eye sheds tears, the soul feels sorrow, and the appointed time is near."  

خَرَجَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ عَلَى جِنَازَةٍ وَمَعَهُ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ فَسَمِعَ نِسَاءً يَبْكِينَ فَزَبَرَهُنَّ عُمَرُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «يَا عُمَرُ دَعْهُنَّ فَإِنَّ الْعَيْنَ دَامِعَةٌ وَالنَّفْسَ مُصَابَةٌ وَالْعَهْدَ قَرِيبٌ»  

[Machine] When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ returned from Uhud, he heard the women of the Ansar crying, so he said, "But Hamza has no sisters." This reached the women of the Ansar, so they cried for Hamza. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then slept, and when he woke up and saw them crying, he said, "Woe to them, why do they continue to cry since that day? They should remain silent and not cry for this deceased after today."  

لَمَّا رَجَعَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ مِنْ أُحُدٍ سَمِعَ نِسَاءَ الْأَنْصَارِ يَبْكِينَ فَقَالَ «لَكِنَّ حَمْزَةَ لَا بَوَاكِيَ» فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ نِسَاءَ الْأَنْصَارِ فَبَكَيْنَ لِحَمْزَةَ فَنَامَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثُمَّ اسْتَيْقَظَ وَهُنَّ يَبْكِينَ فَقَالَ «يَا وَيْحَهُنَّ مَا زِلْنَ يَبْكِينَ مُنْذُ الْيَوْمِ فَلْيَسْكُتْنَ وَلَا يَبْكِينَ عَلَى هَالِكٍ بَعْدَ الْيَوْمِ»  

[Machine] "To take handfuls of dirt and throw it at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ? Fatimah said, 'O my dear father, he answered a call from his Lord, O my dear father, an invitation from his Lord, O my dear father, Paradise of Al-Firdaus is his abode, O my dear father, Jibril has informed him.' Sa'id ibn Mansur added in his narration from Abu Usamah who said, 'I heard Hammad ibn Zaid saying, 'I saw Thabit al-Bunani when he narrated this hadith, he cried until I saw his ribs trembling.'''  

أَنْ تَحْثُوا التُّرَابَ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ؟ قَالَ وَقَالَتْ فَاطِمَةُ «يَا أَبَتَاهُ أَجَابَ رَبًّا دَعَاهُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ مَا أَدْنَاهُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ جَنَّةُ الْفِرْدَوْسِ مَأْوَاهُ يَا أَبَتَاهُ إِلَى جِبْرِيلَ أَنْعَاهُ» زَادَ سَعِيدُ بْنُ مَنْصُورٍ فِي حَدِيثِهِ عَنْ أَبِي أُسَامَةَ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ حَمَّادَ بْنَ زِيدٍ يَقُولُ «رَأَيْتُ ثَابِتًا الْبُنَانِيَّ 149 حِينَ حَدَّثَنَا بِهَذَا الْحَدِيثِ بَكَى حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ أَضْلَاعَهُ تَضْطَرِبُ»  

"Do not wail over me, for no one wailed over the Messenger of Allah." This is an abridgment. (Using translation from Nasāʾī 1851)   

«إِذَا أَنَا مِتُّ فَلَا تَنُوحُوا عَلَيَّ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ يُنَحْ عَلَيْهِ»  

[Machine] When Ibrahim, the son of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, died, Osama bin Zaid shouted, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "This is not from me, nor is it the cry of someone truly grieving. The heart feels sorrow and the eye sheds tears, but Allah is not angered."  

لَمَّا مَاتَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ ابْنُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ صَاحَ أُسَامَةُ بْنُ زَيْدٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ هَذَا مِنِّي وَلَيْسَ بِصَائِحٍ حَقُّ الْقَلْبِ يَحْزَنُ وَالْعَيْنُ تَدْمَعُ وَلَا يُغْضَبُ الرَّبُّ»  

[Machine] "Abu Huraira said: 'When I die, do not lament over me, for the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was not lamented over.' This statement attributed to Abu Huraira is very strange, except that Uthman Al-Ghaffani is not one of the conditions of our book here."  

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ «إِذَا أَنَا مُتُّ فَلَا تَنُوحُوا عَلَيَّ فَإِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمْ يُنَحْ عَلَيْهِ» هَذِهِ الزِّيَادَةُ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ غَرِيبَةٌ جِدًّا إِلَّا أَنَّ عُثْمَانَ الْغَطَفَانِيَّ لَيْسَ مِنْ شَرْطِ كِتَابِنَا هَذَا  

[Machine] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to discourage mourning for the deceased. Ibrahim ibn Muslim al-Hajari is not the only one who reported this, except that the two Sheikh's did not use it as evidence. And this hadith is a witness to what has been mentioned before, and it is a strange but authentic hadith. Indeed, Muslim has used it as evidence, along with Shareek ibn Abdullah.  

«كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمَرَاثِي» إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مُسْلِمٍ الْهَجَرِيِّ لَيْسَ بِالْمَتْرُوكِ إِلَّا أَنَّ الشَّيْخَيْنِ لَمْ يَحْتَجَّا بِهِ وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ شَاهِدٌ لِمَا تَقَدَّمَهُ وَهُوَ غَرِيبٌ صَحِيحٌ فَإِنَّ مُسْلِمًا قَدِ احْتَجَّ بِشَرِيكِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ  

[Machine] Abu Malik Al-Ash'ari, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Indeed, in my Ummah (community) there are four aspects of the pre-Islamic era (Ignorance) that they will not abandon: boasting in lineage, ridiculing one's ancestry, seeking rain by the stars, and wailing over the deceased. Indeed, if the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will be resurrected on the Day of Judgment wearing garments of molten tar, and boiling will be poured on them from the flames of Hell."  

أَبُو مَالِكٍ الْأَشْعَرِيُّ إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ إِنَّ فِي أُمَّتِي أَرْبَعًا مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَيْسُوا بِتَارِكِيهِنَّ الْفَخْرُ فِي الْأَحْسَابِ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي الْأَنْسَابِ وَالِاسْتِسْقَاءُ بِالنُّجُومِ وَالنِّيَاحَةُ عَلَى الْمَيِّتِ فَإِنَّ النَّائِحَةَ إِذَا لَمْ تَتُبْ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَقُومَ فَإِنَّهَا تَقُومُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ عَلَيْهَا سَرَابِيلُ مِنْ قَطِرَانٍ ثُمَّ يَغْلِي عَلَيْهِنَّ دُرُوعٌ مِنْ لَهَبِ النَّارِ  

[Machine] "When the verse 'When the believing women come to you to pledge allegiance to you' [Al-Mumtahina 12] until the phrase 'and they do not disobey you' [Al-Mumtahina 12] was revealed, there was a mourning from him. So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, except for the family of so-and-so, as they used to make me happy during the period of ignorance, so I must make them happy.' He said, 'Except for the family of so-and-so.'"  

لَمَّا نَزَلَتْ {إِذَا جَاءَكَ الْمُؤْمِنَاتُ يُبَايِعْنَكَ} [الممتحنة 12] إِلَى قَوْلِهِ {وَلَا يَعْصِينَكَ} [الممتحنة 12] كَانَتْ مِنْهُ النِّيَاحَةُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ فَإِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا أَسْعَدُونِي فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ فَلَا بُدَّ لِي مِنْ أَنْ أُسْعِدَهُمْ فَقَالَ «إِلَّا آلَ فُلَانٍ»  

[Machine] I heard Abu Huraira while he was in the house of Umm al-Darda saying that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There are three acts that constitute disbelief in Allah: tearing the garment, wailing and lamenting, and slandering one's lineage." (Authentic in its chain of narrators, but they did not record it.)  

سَمِعْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ وَهُوَ فِي بَيْتِ أُمِّ الدَّرْدَاءِ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَلَاثَةٌ مِنَ الْكُفْرِ بِاللَّهِ شَقُّ الْجَيْبِ وَالنِّيَاحَةُ وَالطَّعْنُ فِي النَّسَبِ «صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to visit and inquire about the Ansar. He was informed about a woman from the Ansar whose son had died and she had no one else. She was grieving intensely. The Prophet ﷺ went to her and advised her to fear Allah and to be patient. She said, "O Messenger of Allah, I am a woman who cannot give birth and I have no one else." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The one whose children remain alive is considered to have riqqub." Then he said, "There is no Muslim man or woman who loses three of their children except that Allah will admit them to Paradise because of them." Omar said, "O Messenger of Allah, even if they are two?" He replied, "Even if they are two." The chain of narration is authentic and they did not mention riqqub.  

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَتَعَهَّدُ الْأَنْصَارَ وَيَعُودُهُمْ وَيَسْأَلُ عَنْهُمْ فَبَلَغَهُ عَنِ امْرَأَةٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ مَاتَ ابْنُهَا وَلَيْسَ لَهَا غَيْرُهُ وَأَنَّهَا جَزَعَتْ عَلَيْهِ جَزَعًا شَدِيدًا فَأَتَاهَا النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَأَمَرَهَا بِتَقْوَى اللَّهِ وَبِالصَّبْرِ فَقَالَتْ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي امْرَأَةٌ رَقُوبٌ لَا أَلِدُ وَلَمْ يَكُنْ لِي غَيْرُهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «الرَّقُوبُ الَّذِي يَبْقَى وَلَدُهَا» ثُمَّ قَالَ «مَا مِنِ امْرِئٍ أَوِ امْرَأَةٍ مَسْلَمَةٍ يَمُوتُ لَهَا ثَلَاثَةُ أَوْلَادٍ إِلَّا أَدْخَلَهُمُ اللَّهُ بِهِمُ الْجَنَّةَ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي وَاثْنَانِ قَالَ «وَاثْنَانِ» صَحِيحُ الْإِسْنَادِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ بِذِكْرِ الرَّقُوبِ  

[Machine] A man used to come to the Prophet ﷺ with his son. The Prophet ﷺ asked him, "Do you love him?" He (the man) replied, "I love him, as Allah has loved him." The Prophet ﷺ then lost the son and asked, "What happened to so-and-so?" They replied, "His son has passed away." The Prophet ﷺ said, "Would it not please you that every time you enter one of the gates of Paradise, you find him waiting for you?" A man asked, "Even for me specifically or for all of us?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "For all of you."  

أَنَّ رَجُلًا كَانَ يَأْتِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ وَمَعَهُ ابْنٌ لَهُ فَقَالَ لَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَتُحِبُّهُ؟» فَقَالَ أَحَبَّكَ اللَّهُ كَمَا أَحْبَبْتَهُ فَفَقَدَهُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ فَقَالَ «مَا فَعَلَ فُلَانٌ؟» قَالُوا مَاتَ ابْنُهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ «أَمَا يَسُرُّكَ أَنْ لَا تَأْتِيَ بَابًا مِنْ أَبْوَابِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا وَجَدْتَهُ يَنْتَظِرُكَ؟» فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ أَلَهُ خَاصَّةً أَوْ لِكُلِّنَا قَالَ «بَلْ لِكُلِّكُمْ»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "The children of the believers are in a mountain in paradise, protected by Ibrahim and Sarah, until they are returned to their fathers on the Day of Resurrection."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «أَوْلَادُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ فِي جَبَلٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ يَكْفُلُهُمْ إِبْرَاهِيمُ وَسَارَةُ حَتَّى يَرُدَّهُمْ إِلَى آبَائِهِمْ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ»  

[Machine] That the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prohibited insulting the deceased, so why do you insult Ali even though he has passed away?  

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ «نَهَى عَنْ سَبِّ الْأَمْوَاتِ فَلِمَ تَسُبُّ عَلِيًّا وَقَدْ مَاتَ؟»  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Do not harm a Muslim by insulting a non-believer."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تُؤْذُوا مُسْلِمًا بِشَتْمِ كَافِرٍ»  

The Prophet ﷺ said: Make a mention of the virtues of your dead, and refrain from (mentioning) their evils. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 4900)  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «اذْكُرُوا مَحَاسِنَ مَوْتَاكُمْ وَكُفُّوا عَنْ مَسَاوِيهِمْ»  

[Machine] Abu Bakr and Uthman, the sons of Abu Shaybah, narrated from Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah, who narrated from 'Amr ibn Dinar, who narrated from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, who narrated from Ibn Abbas, who said that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Do not defile your deceased, for a Muslim does not defile the living or the dead." This hadith is authentic according to the conditions of al-Bukhari and Muslim, but they did not include it in their collections.  

ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ وَعُثْمَانُ ابْنَا أَبِي شَيْبَةَ قَالَا ثنا سُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ دِينَارٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تُنَجِّسُوا مَوْتَاكُمْ فَإِنَّ الْمُسْلِمَ لَا يَنْجُسُ حَيًّا أَوْ مَيِّتًا» صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ  

[Machine] "The angels praised Adam four times, Abu Bakr praised the Prophet four times, Umar praised Abu Bakr four times, Suhaib praised Umar four times, Hasan praised Ali four times, and Husayn praised Hasan four times."  

«كَبَّرَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى آدَمَ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ عُمَرُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ صُهَيْبٌ عَلَى عُمَرَ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ الْحَسَنُ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ الْحُسَيْنُ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ أَرْبَعًا»  

[Machine] "The last thing that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ made tasbih (saying Allahu akbar) for at funerals was four takbeers. Umar made four takbeers for Abu Bakr, Abdullah bin Umar made four takbeers for Umar, Hasan bin Ali made four takbeers for Ali, and Husayn bin Ali made four takbeers for Hasan. The angels made four takbeers for Adam. I am not unaware that Furat ibn Al-Sa'ib is not among the conditions of this book, but I have mentioned him as a witness."  

«آخِرُ مَا كَبَّرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْجَنَائِزِ أَرْبَعًا» وَكَبَّرَ عُمَرُ عَلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ عُمَرَ عَلَى عُمَرَ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَلَى عَلِيٍّ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَ الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ عَلَى الْحَسَنِ أَرْبَعًا وَكَبَّرَتِ الْمَلَائِكَةُ عَلَى آدَمَ أَرْبَعًا «لَسْتُ مِمَّنْ يَخْفَى عَلَيْهِ أَنَّ الْفُرَاتَ بْنَ السَّائِبِ لَيْسَ مِنْ شَرْطِ هَذَا الْكِتَابِ وَإِنَّمَا أَخْرَجْتُهُ شَاهِدًا»  

"Ibn Abbas performed Salat for a funeral and he recited Fatihatil-Kitab. So I asked him about it and he said: 'It is from the Sunnah' or, 'From the completeness of the Sunnah.'" (Using translation from Tirmidhī 1027)  

إِنَّهُ مِنَ السُّنَّةِ أَوْ مِنْ تَمَامِ السُّنَّةِ  

[Machine] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "There is no obligatory washing upon you when washing your deceased. When you wash them, your deceased is not impure. It is sufficient for you to wash your hands."  

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي غَسْلِ مَيِّتِكُمْ غُسْلٌ إِذَا غَسَّلْتُمُوهُ فَإِنَّ مَيِّتَكُمْ لَيْسَ بِنَجَسٍ فَحَسْبُكُمْ أَنْ تَغْسِلُوا أَيْدِيَكُمْ»
