While I was praying, the Prophet ﷺ passed by and called me, but I did not go to him till I had finished my prayer. When I went to him, he said, "What prevented you from coming?" I said, "I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say" "O you who believes Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle." (8.24) Then he added, "Shall I tell you the most superior Sura in the Qur'an before I go out of the mosque?" When the Prophet ﷺ intended to go out (of the Mosque), I reminded him and he said, "That is: "Al hamdu-li l-lahi Rabbil-ʿalamin (Surat-al-fatiha)' which is the seven oft repeated verses (Al-Mathani) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me."  

مَرَّ بِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَأَنَا أُصَلِّي فَدَعَانِي فَلَمْ آتِهِ حَتَّى صَلَّيْتُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُ فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَ فَقُلْتُ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فَقَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللَّهُ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ} ثُمَّ قَالَ أَلاَ أُعَلِّمُكَ أَعْظَمَ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَذَهَبَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ لِيَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَذَكَّرْتُهُ فَقَالَ {الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ} هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ  

While I was praying in the Mosque, Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me but I did not respond to him. Later I said, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ! I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say'--"Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle when he calls you." (8.24) He then said to me, "I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an, before you leave the Mosque." Then he got hold of my hand, and when he intended to leave (the Mosque), I said to him, "Didn't you say to me, 'I will teach you a Sura which is the greatest Sura in the Qur'an?' He said, "Al-Hamdu-Li l-lah Rabbi-l-ʿalamin (i.e. Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the worlds) which is Al-Sab'a Al-Mathani (i.e. seven repeatedly recited Verses) and the Grand Qur'an which has been given to me."  

كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَدَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ أُجِبْهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فَقَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللَّهُ {اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ} ثُمَّ قَالَ لِي لأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ سُورَةً هِيَ أَعْظَمُ السُّوَرِ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ تَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ بِيَدِي فَلَمَّا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ قُلْتُ لَهُ أَلَمْ تَقُلْ لأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ سُورَةً هِيَ أَعْظَمُ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَالَ {الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ} هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ  

While I was praying, the Prophet ﷺ called me but I did not respond to his call. Later I said, "O Allah's Apostle! I was praying." He said, "Didn't Allah say: 'O you who believe! Give your response to Allah (by obeying Him) and to His Apostle when he calls you'?" (8.24) He then said, "Shall I not teach you the most superior Surah in the Qur'an?" Shall I not teach you the greatest surah before I leave the masjid?' Then he went to leave, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about what you said?' He said: "All praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of all that exists. These are the seven oft-recited that I have been given, and the Grand Quran.'"

I prayed ant then I came to him. He asked: What prevented you from answering me ? He replied: I was praying. He said: Has not Allah said: "O you who believe, respond to Allah and the Apostle when he calls you to that which gives you life ? (8:24) Let me teach you the greatest surah from the Qur'an or in the Qur'an (the narrator Khalid doubted) before I leave the mosque. I said: (I shall memorize) your saying. He said: It is: "Praise be to Allah, the Lord of the Universe" which is the seven oft-repeated verses, and the mighty Qur'an.  

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ مَرَّ بِهِ وَهُوَ يُصَلِّي فَدَعَاهُ قَالَ فَصَلَّيْتُ ثُمَّ أَتَيْتُهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تُجِيبَنِي قَالَ كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي قَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللَّهُ ﷻ { يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ } لأُعَلِّمَنَّكَ أَعْظَمَ سُورَةٍ مِنَ الْقُرْآنِ أَوْ فِي الْقُرْآنِ شَكَّ خَالِدٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَوْلَكَ قَالَ { الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ } وَهِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي الَّتِي أُوتِيتُ وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ  

[Machine] I was praying when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me, but I did not respond to him until I finished my prayer and came to him. He asked me, "What prevented you from coming to me?" I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I was praying." He said, "Did Allah not say, 'O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you'?" (Quran 8:24). Then he said, "I will teach you the greatest Surah in the Quran, or one of the greatest Surahs, before you leave the mosque." He took my hand, and when he was about to leave the mosque, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, you said you would teach me the greatest Surah in the Quran?" He said, "Yes, praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds. It is Al-Hamd (Surah Al-Fatiha), the seven repeated verses and the Great Quran that I have been given."

[Machine] "I was praying in the mosque when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) called me, but I did not respond to him. So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, I was praying.' He said, 'Did Allah not say, 'Respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you?' Then he said, 'Shall I not teach you a surah that is the greatest surah in the Quran?' I said, 'Yes.' He said, 'Praise be to Allah, the Lord of all the worlds.' It is Surah Al-Fatiha and the Quran that has been given to me.'"  

كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَدَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ أُجِبْهُ فَقُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فَقَالَ «أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللَّهُ {اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ} ؟ » ثُمَّ قَالَ «أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ سُورَةً هِيَ أَعْظَمُ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ؟ » فَقُلْتُ بَلَى فَقَالَ «الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ»  

[Machine] I was praying when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ called me, but I did not respond to him. When I finished the prayer, he said, "What prevented you from responding to me when I called you? Indeed, Allah says, 'O you who have believed, respond to Allah and to the Messenger when he calls you to that which gives you life'" Then he said, "Do not leave the mosque until I teach you a surah in the Quran." I walked with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ until he was about to leave the mosque, so I reminded him, and he said, "The Opening of the Book, the oft-repeated seven verses and the Great Quran I was given."  

كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي فَدَعَانِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَلَمْ أُجِبْهُ فَلَمَّا قَضَيْتُ الصَّلَاةَ قَالَ «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَكُونَ أَجَبْتَنِي أَنْ دَعَوْتُكَ؟» فَإِنَّ اللهَ يَقُولُ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ} ثُمَّ قَالَ «لَا تَخْرُجْ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ حَتَّى أُعَلِّمَكَ سُورَةً فِي الْقُرْآنِ» قَالَ فَمَشَيْتُ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ حَتَّى كَادَ أَنْ يَخْرُجَ مِنَ الْمَسْجِدِ فَذَكَّرْتُهُ فَقَالَ «فَاتِحَةُ الْكِتَابِ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ»

مَرَّ بِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَنَا فِي الْمَسْجِدِ فَدَعَانِي فَلَمْ آتِهِ قَالَ «مَا مَنَعَكَ أَنْ تَأْتِيَنِي؟» قُلْتُ إِنِّي كُنْتُ أُصَلِّي قَالَ أَلَمْ يَقُلِ اللهُ ﷻ {يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا اسْتَجِيبُوا لِلَّهِ وَلِلرَّسُولِ إِذَا دَعَاكُمْ لِمَا يُحْيِيكُمْ} [الأنفال 24] قَالَ «أَلَا أُعَلِّمُكَ أَفْضَلَ سُورَةٍ فِي الْقُرْآنِ قَبْلَ أَنْ أَخْرُجَ؟» فَلَمَّا ذَهَبَ يَخْرُجُ ذَكَرْتُ ذَلِكَ لَهُ قَالَ فَقَالَ الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ رَبِّ الْعَالَمِينَ هِيَ السَّبْعُ الْمَثَانِي وَالْقُرْآنُ الْعَظِيمُ الَّذِي أُوتِيتُهُ  

The Prophet ﷺ passed by him when he was praying, and called him. He said: "I finished praying, then I came to him, and he said: 'What kept you from answering me?' He said: 'I was praying.' He said: 'Does not Allah say: O you who believe! Answer Allah (by obeying Him) and (His) Messenger when he calls you to that which will give you life? Shall I not teach you the greatest surah before I leave the masjid?' Then he went to leave, and I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, what about what you said?' He said: "All praise and thanks be to Allah, Lord of all that exists. These are the seven oft-recited that I have been given, and the Grand Quran.'" (Using translation from Nasāʾī 913)
