A Jubba (i.e. cloak) made of thick silken cloth was presented to the Prophet. The Prophet ﷺ used to forbid people to wear silk. So, the people were pleased to see it. The Prophet ﷺ said, "By Him in Whose Hands Muhammad's soul is, the handkerchiefs of Saʿd bin Muʿadh in Paradise are better than this." Anas added, "The present was sent to the Prophet ﷺ by Ukaidir (a Christian) from Dauma."

أُهْدِيَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ جُبَّةُ سُنْدُسٍ وَكَانَ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ فَعَجِبَ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ هَذَا وَقَالَ سَعِيدٌ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ أَنَسٍ إِنَّ أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ أَهْدَى إِلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ

Messenger of Allah ﷺ was given a silken garment, and its beauty and delicacy astonished the people. On that, Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "No doubt, the handkerchiefs of Saʿd bin Muʿadh in Paradise are better than this."

أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ مِنْ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ حُسْنِهِ وَلِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَفْضَلُ مِنْ هَذَا

The Prophet ﷺ was given a silk garment as a gift and we started touching it with our hands and admiring it. On that the Prophet ﷺ said, "Do you wonder at this?" We said, "Yes." He said, "The handkerchiefs of Saʿd bin Muʿadh in Paradise are better than this."

أُهْدِيَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثَوْبُ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلْنَا نَلْمُسُهُ وَنَتَعَجَّبُ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذَا قُلْنَا نَعَمْ قَالَ مَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذَا

Do you admire the softness of this (cloth)? The handkerchiefs of Sa'd b. Mu'adh in Paradise are better than this.

سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ أُهْدِيَتْ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ حُلَّةُ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَلْمُسُونَهَا وَيَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهَا فَقَالَ أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ لِينِ هَذِهِ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْهَا وَأَلْيَنُ

By Him in Whose Hand is the life of Muhammad, the kerchiefs of Sa'd b. Mu'adh in Paradise are better than this.

أَنَّهُ أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جُبَّةٌ مِنْ سُنْدُسٍ وَكَانَ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ فَعَجِبَ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ إِنَّ مَنَادِيلَ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ هَذَا

"A garment of silk was gifted to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so they began to marvel at its softness, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Do you marvel at this? Indeed, the handkerchiefs of Sa'd bin Mu'adh in Paradise are better than this.'"

أُهْدِيَ لِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَوْبٌ حَرِيرٌ فَجَعَلُوا يَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ تَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذَا لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ هَذَا وَفِي الْبَابِ عَنْ أَنَسٍ وَهَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ صَحِيحٌ

[AI] Ukaydir gave a gift of a beautiful robe to the Prophet, ﷺ . People marvelled at its beauty, and he said, "The handkerchief of Saad in Paradise is better or more beautiful than it."

أَهْدَى أُكَيْدِرُ دُومَةَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ يَعْنِي حُلَّةً فَعَجِبَ النَّاسُ مِنْ حُسْنِهَا فَقَالَ لَمِنْدِيلُ سَعْدٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ أَوْ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا

[AI] "That once Uqaydirah presented a silk cloak or robe to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , Sa'id doubted its quality before he forbade the use of silk. So the Prophet ﷺ wore it, and people admired it. He said, 'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in Paradise are even better than it.'"

أَنَّ أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جُبَّةَ سُنْدُسٍ أَوْ دِيبَاجٍ شَكَّ فِيهِ سَعِيدٌ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْهَى عَنِالْحَرِيرِ فَلَبِسَهَا فَتَعَجَّبَ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا

[AI] "That the Prophet ﷺ was brought a silk garment, so they started touching it and looking at it. He said, 'Are you amazed at this? The handkerchief of Sa'd or the handkerchief of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in Paradise is better than this or softer than this.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِثَوْبٍ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَمَسُّونَهُ وَيَنْظُرُونَ فَقَالَ أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذَا لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدٍ أَوْ مِنْدِيلُسَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ أَلْيَنُ مِنْ هَذَا

[AI] "That Uqaydirah once gifted a silk robe to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ before the Prophet ﷺ prohibited wearing silk. He wore it and people were amazed by it. The Prophet ﷺ then said, 'By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the handkerchiefs of Sa'd in Paradise are better than this.'"

أَنَّ أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جُبَّةَ حَرِيرٍ وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْهَى نَبِيُّ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ فَلَبِسَهَا فَعَجِبَ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ وَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْ هَذِهِ

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ was brought a silk garment, so they began touching it and looking at it. He said, "Are you amazed by this? The handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in Paradise are better than this, or smoother than this, or he said from a handkerchief like this."

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِثَوْبٍ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَمَسُّونَهُ وَيَنْظُرُونَ إِلَيْهِ فَقَالَ أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذَا؟ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ أَلْيَنُ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ قَالَ مِنْدِيلُ

[AI] He said: I heard Al-Bara' saying, "Indeed, the Prophet ﷺ was brought a silk garment, so they were amazed by its beauty and softness. He said, 'Are the robes of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in Paradise better or this one?'"

قَالَسَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أُتِيَ بِثَوْبٍ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ حُسْنِهِ وَلِينِهِ فَقَالَ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَفْضَلُ أَوْ أَخْيَرُ مِنْ هَذَا

[AI] The Prophet ﷺ came wearing a silk garment, and his companions were amazed by its softness. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, "The handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in paradise are even softer than this."

أُتِيَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ بِثَوْبٍ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَلْيَنُ مِنْ هَذَا

[AI] "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore a silk robe, so people began to touch and admire it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said, 'You admire this, but the handkerchiefs of Sad ibn Muadh in Paradise are better than it.'"

لَبِسَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ ثَوْبًا مِنْ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلَ النَّاسُ يَلْمَسُونَهُ وَيَعْجَبُونَ مِنْهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «تَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْهُ مَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ»

[AI] I heard Al-Bara'ah saying, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought a silk garment, and they began to touch and marvel at its softness." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in Paradise are softer than this or better than this."

سَمِعْتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبِ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَلْمَسُونَهُ وَيَتَعَجَّبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهِ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَلْيَنُ مِنْ هَذَا أَوْ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذَا»

[AI] "That Umayr bin Adam presented to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ a velvet cloak, and he wore it before silk was prohibited. The people were amazed by its beauty, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'The handkerchiefs of Sa'd bin Mu'adh are better than it in Paradise.'"

أَنَّ أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ جُبَّةَ سُنْدُسٍ فَلَبِسَهَا وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يُحَرَّمَ الْحَرِيرُ فَتَعَجَّبَ النَّاسُ مِنْ حُسْنِهَا فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا فِي الْجَنَّةِ»

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ came with a silk garment, and they were amazed by its softness. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'There is a handkerchief or some handkerchiefs of Sa'd in Paradise that are softer than it or better than it.'"

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ أَتَى بِثَوْبٍ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَمَنْدِيلٌ أَوْ بَعْضُ مَنَادِيلِ سَعْدٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَلْيَنُ مِنْهُ أَوْ خَيْرٌ مِنْهُ»

سَمِعتُ الْبَرَاءَ يَقُولُ أُتِيَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بِثَوْبِ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ حُسْنِهِ وَلِينِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ «لَمَنْادِيلُ سَعْدٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْ هَذَا»

[AI] That Uqaydira Duma presented a silk robe to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ wore it. The people admired it, so he said, "Do you admire this? By the One in whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, the handkerchiefs of Sa'd ibn Mu'adh in paradise are better than it." And he gave it to 'Umar, and 'Umar said, "O Messenger of Allah, you dislike it and yet you give it to me?" He said, "O 'Umar, I only sent it to you so that you may use it as a shroud and with it cover a face that will be struck with it, and that is before he forbade silk."

أَنَّ أُكَيْدِرَ دُومَةَ أَهْدَى إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ جُبَّةَ سُنْدُسٍ فَلَبِسَهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَعَجِبَ النَّاسُ مِنْهَا فَقَالَ «أَتَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ هَذِهِ؟ فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِي الْجَنَّةِ أَحْسَنُ مِنْهَا» وَأَهْدَاهَا إِلَى عُمَرَ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَكْرَهُهَا وَأَلْبَسُهَا قَالَ «يَا عُمَرُ إِنِّي إِنَّمَا أَرْسَلْتُ بِهَا إِلَيْكَ لِتَبْعَثَ بِهَا وَجْهًا تُصِيبُ بِهَا وَذَلِكَ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْحَرِيرِ»

"أتعجبون من لينِ هذه؟ والذي نفسى بيده لمناديل سعدِ بنِ معاذ في الجنة خيرٌ منها وألينُ".

"والَّذِي نَفسُ مُحَمَّدٍ بِيَدِهِ لمَنادِيلُ سعد بنِ مُعَاذٍ في الجَنَّةِ أحسنُ مِنْ هَذا".

"عَنْ أنَسٍ قَالَ: أهْدَى أَكَيْدِرُ دَوْمَةَ إِلى رَسُولِ الله ﷺ جُبَّةً، فَتَعجَّبَ النَّاسُ مِنْ حُسْنِهَا، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ : لَمَنَادِيلُ سَعْدِ بْنِ مُعَاذٍ فِى الجَنَّةِ خَيْرٌ مِنْهَا".

"عَنْ البَرَاء قَالَ: أُهْدِيَ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ ثَوْبٌ مِنْ حَرِيرٍ فَجَعَلُوا يَعْجَبُونَ مِنْ لِينِهِ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ لَمَنَاديلُ سَعْدٍ فِي الجَنَّة أَلْيَنُ مِنْ هَذَا".
