Three things for damnation, three for salvation, and three for expiation
Three things are destructive, three things are salvific, and three things to rise in ranks, and three things are expiating. It was asked: O Messenger of Allah...
(a) what are the destructive things? He said: (1) Greed that is obeyed, (2) desires that are followed, and (3) a person's self-admiration.
(b) It was asked: What are the things that will save? He said: (1) Fear of Allah in private and public, (2) moderation while having riches or in poverty, and (3) justice in both during pleasure and in anger.
(c) It was asked: What are the expiations? He said: (1) Stepping towards the masajid, (2) waiting for prayer after prayer, and (3) completing ablution on cold days when it is challenging.
