[Machine] I accompanied Omar, and when we reached the two Arabic corners, I said, "Won't you surrender?" And I stood between him and the wall, and he said, "Didn't you perform Tawaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ?" I said, "Yes." He said, "Did you see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ surrendering it?" I said, "No." He said, "So for you, in the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is a good example, so deviate from it." Al-Shafi'i, may Allah Almighty have mercy on him, said: "As for the reason for them, we see that the house was not completed on the foundations of Ibrahim, so they are like the rest of the house."

البيهقي:٩٢٤٢ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دَرَسْتَوَيْهِ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ عَنِ ابْنِ جُرَيْجٍ عَنْ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ عَتِيقٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بِابَيْهِ عَنْ بَعْضِ وَلَدِ يَعْلَى عَنْ يَعْلَى قَالَ

طُفْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ ؓ فَلَمَّا بَلَغْنَا الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْعَرَبِيَّيْنِ قُلْتُ أَلَا تَسْتَلِمُ؟ وَصِرْتُ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَ الْحَائِطِ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ أَفَرَأَيْتَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْتَلِمُهُ؟ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ فَلَكَ فِي رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ انْفُذْ عَنْكَ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ تَعَالَى وَأَمَّا الْعِلَّةُ فِيهِمَا فَنَرَى أَنَّ الْبَيْتَ لَمْ يُتَمَّمْ عَلَى قَوَاعِدِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ فَكَانَا كَسَائِرِ الْبَيْتِ

Yaʿla said:I circumambulated [the Ka’bah] with ‘Uthman ؓ and he touched the corner. Yaʿla said: I was next to the House and when I reached the western corner which is next to the Black Stone. I took his hand to touch it and he said: What is the matter with you? I said: Arenʿt you going to touch it? He said: Did you not do tawaf with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ” I said: Yes indeed. He said: Did you see him touch these two western corners? I said, No. He said: Donʿt you have a good example in him? I said: Yes indeed. He said. Then stop bothering about that.

قَالَقَالَ يَعْلَى طُفْتُ مَعَ عُثْمَانَ فَاسْتَلَمْنَا الرُّكْنَ قَالَ يَعْلَى فَكُنْتُ مِمَّا يَلِي الْبَيْتَ فَلَمَّا بَلَغْنَا الرُّكْنَ الْغَرْبِيَّ الَّذِي يَلِي الْأَسْوَدَ جَرَرْتُ بِيَدِهِ لِيَسْتَلِمَ فَقَالَ مَا شَأْنُكَ؟ فَقُلْتُ أَلا تَسْتَلِمُ؟ قَالَ فَقَالَ أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ؟ فَقُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ أَرَأَيْتَهُ يَسْتَلِمُ هَذَيْنِ الرُّكْنَيْنِ الْغَرْبِيَّيْنِ؟ قُلْتُ لَا قَالَ أَفَلَيْسَ لَكَ فِيهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ؟ قُلْتُ بَلَى قَالَ فَانْفُذْ عَنْكَ

يَلِى الْبَيْتَ، فَلَمَّا بَلَغْنَا الرُّكنَ الغَرْبِىَّ، الَّذِى يَلِى الأَسْوَدَ، جَرَرْتُ بيَدِهِ يسْتَلِمُ قَال: مَا شَأنُكَ؟ قُلتُ: أَلَا تَسْتَلِم؟ فَقَالَ: أَلَمْ تَطُفْ مع رسول الله ﷺ ، فقلت: بلى، فقال: أرأيته يستلم هَذَيْنِ الرُّكنَيْنِ الْغَرْبييْنِ؟ قُلتُ: لَا، قَالَ: أوَ لَيْسَ لَكَ فِيهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ؟ قُلْتُ: بَلَى، قَالَ: فَانْفُذْ عَنْكَ".
