[AI] The sun set, then Ali prayed for people and recited Yasin and similar verses. Then he bowed down from his recitation of the Surah, then he raised his head and said Allah heard the one who praised him. Then he stood up for the amount of the Surah, made supplication and glorified Allah, then he bowed down for the amount of his recitation, then he said Allah heard the one who praised him. Then he stood up again for the amount of the Surah, then he bowed down for the same amount, until he performed four units of prayer. Then he said Allah heard the one who praised him, then he prostrated, then he stood up in the second unit and did the same as he did in the first unit. Then he sat down and supplicated and expressed desire until the sun rose. Then he informed them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ did the same. Abu Saad Al-Malini informed us that Abu Ahmad bin Adi Al-Hafiz said that Hanash bin Al-Mutamir, Abu Al-Mutamir Al-Kinanin, one of them said Hanash bin Rabia, heard Ali narrated by them. Simak bin Harb and Al-Hakam bin Utaiba spoke about his narration. He is Kuwafi. I heard Ibn Hammad mentioning him according to Al-Bukhari. Abu Ahmad said, and Abu Abdul Rahman An-Nasai said in what Muhammad bin Abbas informed me, Hanash bin Al-Mutamir is not strong. The Sheikh said, and among our companions who went to verify the reports in this number, it is valid for everyone to add what he memorized. and it is possible that ﷺ increased in bowing if he did not see the sun shining. Ishaaq bin Rahawayh went to this, and after him Muhammad bin Ishaaq bin Khuzaimeh, and Abu Bakr Ahmad bin Ishaaq bin Ayyoub As-Sibghi, and Abu Sulaiman Al-Khattabi, and Abu Bakr Muhammad bin Ibrahim bin Al-Mundhir, the companion of Khalifiyat. And with Allah is success, and what Ash-Shafi'i indicated from the preference is sound. And Allah knows best.

(the wife of the Prophet ﷺ In the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ the sun eclipsed and he went to the Mosque and the people aligned behind him. He said the Takbir (starting the prayer) and prolonged the recitation (from the Qur'an) and then said Takbir and performed a prolonged bowing; then he (lifted his head and) said, "Sami allahu liman hamidah" (Allah heard him who sent his praises to Him). He then did not prostrate but stood up and recited a prolonged recitation which was shorter than the first recitation. He again said Takbir and then bowed a prolonged bowing but shorter than the first one and then said, "Samiʿa l-lahu Lyman hamidah Rabbana walak-lhamd, (Allah heard him who sent his praises to Him. O our Sustainer! All the praises are for You)" and then prostrated and did the same in the second rakʿa; thus he completed four bowing and four prostrations. The sun (eclipse) had cleared before he finished the prayer. (After the prayer) he stood up, glorified and praised Allah as He deserved and then said, "The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse because of the death or the life (i.e. birth) of someone. When you see them make haste for the prayer." Narrated Az-Zuhri: I said to 'Urwa, "When the sun eclipsed at Medina your brother (ʿAbdullah bin Az-Zubair) offered only a two-rakʿat prayer like that of the morning (Fajr) prayer." 'Urwa replied, "Yes, for he missed the Prophet's tradition (concerning this matter)."

Allah listened to him who praised Him: our Lord, praise is due to Thee. He then again stood up and made a long recital, which was less than the first recital. He pronounced takbir and observed a long ruku', and it was less than the first one. He again said: Allah listened to him who praised Him; our Lord, praise is due to Thee. (Abu Tahir, one of the narrators) made no mention of:" He then prostrated himself." He did like this in the second rak'ah, till he completed four rak'ahs and four prostrations and the sun became bright before he deported. He then stood up and addressed people, after lauding Allah as He deserved, and then said: The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah These do not eclipse either on the death of anyone or on his birth. So when you see them, hasten to prayer. He also said this: Observe prayer till Allah dispels the anxiety (of this extraordinary phenomenon) from you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: I saw in my place everything which you have been promised. I even saw myself desiring to pluck a bunch (of grapes) from Paradise (and it was at the time) when you saw me moving forward. And I saw Hell and some of its parts crushing the others, when you saw me moving back; and I saw in it Ibn Luhayy and he was the person who made the she-camels loiter about. In the hadith transmitted by Abu Tahir the words are:" He hastened to prayer," and he made no mention of what follows.

And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: While I was standing just now I saw everything you have been promised. When you saw me moving forward, I wanted to take a cluster of fruit from Paradise. Then he said the Takbir and bowed for a long time, but less than the first bowing. Then he said: ‘Sami’ Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd.’ Then he did the same in the next Rak’ah, and he completed four Rak’ah and four sets of prostration, and the eclipse ended before he finished. Then he stood and addressed the people. He praised Allah as He deserves to be praised, then he said: ‘The sun and the moon are two of the signs of Allah. They do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that then seek help in prayer.’” (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 1263)

malik:12-1Yaḥyá > Mālik > Hishām b. ʿUrwah from his father

Yahya related to me from Malik from Hisham ibn Urwa from his father that A'isha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ said, "There was an eclipse of the sun in the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the people in prayer. He stood, and did so for a long time. Then he went into ruku, and made the ruku long. Then he stood again, and did so for a long time, though not as long as the first time. Then he went into ruku, and made the ruku long, though not as long as thefirst time. Then he rose, and went down into sajda. He then did the same in the second raka, and by the time he had finished the sun had appeared. He then gave a khutba to the people, in which he praised Allah and then said, 'The sun and the moon are two of Allah's signs. They do not eclipse for anyone's death nor for anyone's life. When you see an eclipse, call on Allah and say, "Allah is greater" and give sadaqa.' Then he said, 'O community of Muhammad! ByAllah, there is no-one more jealous than Allah of a male or female slave of his who commits adultery. O community of Muhammad! By Allah, if you knew what I knew, you would laugh little and weep much'."

[AI] He was in a gathering where his father was present, and he was one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ . In the gathering, there were Abu Huraira, Abu Usaid, and Abu Humaid Al-Saadi, who were from the Ansar. They were discussing about prayer, and then Abu Humaid said, "I will inform you about the prayer of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." They replied, "Show us." He stood up to pray, and they watched. He began by saying the Takbeer (Allahu Akbar) and raising his hands to the level of his shoulders, then he raised his hands to the level of his ears before bowing, and he positioned his hands neither levelled with knees nor crossed but placed them on thighs. Then, he raised his head and said, "Sami Allahu liman hamidah (Allah hears whoever praises Him)," and raised his hands. Then, he said, "Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)," and prostrated, placing his forehead, nose, arms, and feet on the ground while his hands were prostrated as well. Then, he said the Takbeer, sat with one of his legs tucked and the other extended, and said the Takbeer again before prostrating with the other leg as well. Then, he said the Takbeer, stood up without tawarruk (resting on the buttocks on the ground while seated) and performed another rakah (unit of prayer). He repeated the same actions and then sat after the two rakahs, until he intended to stand up, he said the Takbeer, performed the two final rakahs, and after completing the prayer, he said the Tasleem to the right, "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah (Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah)," and to the left, "Assalamu alaikum wa rahmatullah (Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah)." Al-Hasan bin Al-Hur narrated that Isa also mentioned in the gathering during the Tashahhud, that the Prophet ﷺ would place his left hand on his left thigh and his right hand on his right thigh, then he would point with one finger in supplication.

"The sun was eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. He stood and said the takbir, and the people formed rows behind him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited for a long time, then he said the takbir and bowed for a long time, then he raised his head and said: Sami Allahu liman hamidah, Rabbana wa lakal-hamd. Then he stood and recited for a long time, but it was a shorter recitation than the first recitation, then he said the takbir and bowed but it was shorter than the first bowing. Then he said: Sami Allahu liman hamidah, then he prostrated. In this manner, he bowed four times, and the eclipse ended before he had finished. Then he stood and addressed the people. He praised and glorified Allah (SWT), the Mighty and Sublime, as He deserves, then he said: The sun and moon are two of the signs of Allah (SWT), Most High. They do not become eclipsed for the death or birth of anyone. If you see that (eclipsed) then pray until it ends. And the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: While I was standing just now I saw everything you have been promised. When you saw me moving forward, I wanted to take a cluster of fruit from Paradise. And I saw Hell; parts of it were consuming other parts when you saw me step backward. And I saw therein Ibn Luhayy, who was the first one to establish the Sa'ibah.'" I am one among you who is more informed of the way the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed. They said: Why, By Allah, you did not follow him more than us, nor did you remain in his company longer than us? He said: Yes. They said: Then describe (how the Prophet prayed). He said: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ stood up to pray, he raised his hands so as to bring them opposite his shoulders, and uttered the takbir (Allah is the most great), until every bone rested in its place properly: then re recited (some verses from the Quran); then he uttered the takbir (Allah is most great), raising his hands so as to bring them opposite his shoulders; then he bowed; placing the palms of his hands on his knees and keeping himself straight, neither raising nor lowering his head; then raised his head saying: “Allah listens to him who praise Him”; then raised his hands so as to bring them exactly opposite to his shoulders; then uttered: “Allah is most great”; then lowered himself to the ground (in prostration), keeping his arms away from his sides; then raised his head, bent his left foot and sat on it, and opened the toes when he prostrated: then he uttered: “Allah is most great”; then raised his head, bent his left foot and sat on it so that every bone returned to its place properly; then he did the same in the second (rak’ah). At the end of the two Rak’ahs he stood up and uttered the takbir (Allah is most great), raising his hands so as to bring them opposite to his shoulders; then he bowed, placing the palms of his hands on his knees and keeping himself straight, neither raising or lowering his head: then raised his head saying: “Allah listens to him who praises Him”; then raised his hands so as to bring them exactly opposite his shoulders; then uttered: “Allah is most great”; then lowered himself to the ground (in prostration), keeping his arms away from his sides; then raised his head, bent his left foot and sat on it, and opened the toes when he prostrated himself; then he prostrated; then uttered: “Allah is most great”; then raised his head, bent his left foot and sat on it so that every bone returned to its place properly; then he did the same in the second (rak’ah). At the end of two rak’ahs he stood up and uttered the takbir (Allah is most great), raising his hands so as to bring them opposite to his shoulders in the way he had uttered the Takbir (Allah is most great) at the beginning of the prayer; then he did that in the remainder of his prayer; and after prostration which if followed by the taslim (salutation) he out his left foot and sat on his left hip. They said: You have spoken the truth. This is how he(peace be upon him) used to pray. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 730)

[AI] "He was in a council with his father, and he was one of the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Abu Hurairah, Abu Usaid, and Abu Humaid Al-Sa'idi were also in the council. They were discussing prayer, so Abu Humaid said, "I will show you how the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prayed." They asked, "How?" He said, "I learned it from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ." They said, "Show us." So he got up to pray, and they watched him. He started by saying the takbeer, then he raised his hands towards his shoulders and repeated the takbeer for bowing. He raised his hands again until his hands were level with his knees, without covering his head or pointing with his fingers. Then he raised his head and said, "Allah listens to the one who praises Him. Our Lord, to You belongs all praise!" He raised his hands again, then said, "Allah is the Greatest," and prostrated, placing his forehead, knees, and feet on the ground. He remained in prostration for a while, then raised his head and said the takbeer. He sat down and placed one foot under him, and extended the other foot. Then he said the takbeer, prostrated again, and said the takbeer. This means he stood up without sitting in between the two prostrations. Then he repeated the same for the second unit of prayer. After the two units, he sat down and when he wanted to get up for the final standing, he said the takbeer and performed another two units of prayer. Then he concluded the prayer by saying the salaam on his right and left sides, saying, "Peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah." He said, "Ibn 'Isa also reported to me that one of the things he mentioned about sitting in the tashahhud is to place the left hand on the left thigh and the right hand on the right thigh, then to point with one finger and make supplication like this."

[AI] Narrated Aisha, the wife of the Prophet ﷺ: The sun eclipsed during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. So, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went to the mosque, stood up, and led the people in prayer. Then, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ recited a long recitation, then he raised his head and said, "Allah hears the one who praises Him, our Lord, and the praise is due to You." Then, he stood up and recited another long recitation, which was shorter than the first recitation. Then, he said the takbeer and performed a long rukoo'. After that, he raised his head and said, "Allah hears the one who praises Him, our Lord, and the praise is due to You." Then, he did the same actions in the second rakah. He completed four rakahs and four prostrations. The sun cleared before he finished. Then, he stood up, addressed the people, praised Allah, and spoke highly of Him. Then, he said, "Indeed, the sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse due to the death or life of anyone. So, when you see them, hasten to the prayer."
