[Machine] I asked him, "Did you see the Prophet ﷺ?" He said, "Yes, and he was a man of few words. His companions would recite poetry in front of him and talk about things from the pre-Islamic era, and he would smile with them when they laughed."  

البيهقي:٢١١١٧أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ ثنا حَنْبَلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا قَيْسُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ حَدَّثَنِي سِمَاكٌ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ

قُلْتُ لَهُ رَأَيْتَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَكَانَ طَوِيلَ الصَّمْتِ وَكَانَ أَصْحَابُهُ يَتَنَاشَدُونَ الشِّعْرَ عِنْدَهُ وَيَذْكُرُونَ أَشْيَاءَ مِنْ أَمْرِ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ وَيَضْحَكُونَ فَيَتَبَسَّمُ مَعَهُمْ إِذَا ضَحِكُوا

I said to Jabir in Samrah, "Have you sat with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?" Jabir said, "Yes, and he would observe silence for long periods of time and seldom laugh. His companions would mention poetry in his presence and some of their affairs. They would laugh and smile at times."
