[Machine] "When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ was brought food, he would ask if it was a gift or charity. If they said it was a gift, he would extend his hand to take it, and if they said it was charity, he would tell his companions to eat it. This was narrated by Ya'qub ibn Sufyan."  

البيهقي:١٣٢٧٦ – أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دُرُسْتَوَيْهِ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ حَدَّثَنِي الْمَكِّيُّ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ قَالَ بَهْزٌ ذَكَرَهُ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهُ أَهَدِيَّةٌ أَمْ صَدَقَةٌ؟ فَإِنْ قَالُوا هَدِيَّةٌ بَسَطَ يَدَهُ وَإِنْ قَالُوا صَدَقَةٌ قَالَ لِأَصْحَابِهِ كُلُوا بَهْزٌ هُوَ ابْنُ حَكِيمِ بْنِ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ حَيْدَةَ الْقُشَيْرِيُّ أَحَدُ بَنِي عَامِرِ بْنِ صَعْصَعَةَ بْنِ هَوَازِنَ قَالَهُ يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ

Whenever a meal was brought to Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he would ask whether it was a gift or Sadaqa (something given in charity). If he was told that it was Sadaqa, he would tell his companions to eat it, but if it was a gift, he would hurry to share it with them.  

البخاري:٢٥٧٦ – حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ الْمُنْذِرِ حَدَّثَنَا مَعْنٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ طَهْمَانَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَالَ

كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا أُتِيَ بِطَعَامٍ سَأَلَ عَنْهُ أَهَدِيَّةٌ أَمْ صَدَقَةٌ فَإِنْ قِيلَ صَدَقَةٌ قَالَ لأَصْحَابِهِ كُلُوا وَلَمْ يَأْكُلْ وَإِنْ قِيلَ هَدِيَّةٌ ضَرَبَ بِيَدِهِ ﷺ فَأَكَلَ مَعَهُمْ
