[Machine] Uthman bin Affan, if we follow your opinion, it is indeed the right path. And if we follow the opinion of the sheikh before you, then he was indeed a person of good judgment.  

البيهقي:١٢٤٢١ – وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ الْقَطَّانُ أنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَتَّابٍ ثنا الْقَاسِمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ ثنا ابْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ ثنا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ ثنا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ؓ حِينَ طُعِنَ قَالَ إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ فِيَ الْجَدِّ رَأْيًا فَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنْ تَتَّبِعُوهُ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ فَقَالَ

عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ ؓ إِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَكَ فَإِنَّهُ رُشْدٌ وَإِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَ الشَّيْخِ قَبْلَكَ فَنِعْمَ ذُو الرَّأْيِ كَانَ

And if we were to follow the opinion of the elder before you, then what an excellent opinion it would be." He added, "Abu Bakr used to appoint him as a father."  

الدارمي:٦٥٥ – أَخْبَرَنَا الْحَجَّاجُ بْنُ الْمِنْهَالِ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَنْبَأَنَا هِشَامُ بْنُ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ عَنْ مَرْوَانَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ قَالَ لِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَفَّانَ إِنَّ عُمَرَ قَالَ

لِي إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُ فِي الْجَدِّ رَأْيًا فَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنْ تَتَّبِعُوهُ فَاتَّبِعُوهُ قَالَ عُثْمَانُ «إِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَكَ فَإِنَّهُ رَشَدٌ وَإِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَ الشَّيْخِ قَبْلَكَ فَنِعْمَ ذُو الرَّأْيِ كَانَ» قَالَ وَكَانَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ يَجْعَلُهُ أَبًا

[Machine] He said, "I have been stabbed." He continued, "Indeed, I have seen in Al-Jadd (a city) a vision. So, if you see fit to follow it, then Osman said, 'If we follow your opinion, it is a righteous one. And if we follow the opinion of the sheikh before you, then he was indeed a well-guided one.'"  

الحاكم:٧٩٨٣ – حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَنْبَأَ الْحَسَنُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زِيَادٍ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ أَبِي أُوَيْسٍ ثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ عُقْبَةَ عَنْ عَمِّهِ مُوسَى بْنِ عُقْبَةَ قَالَ ثَنَا عُرْوَةُ بْنُ الزُّبَيْرِ أَنَّ مَرْوَانَ بْنَ الْحَكَمِ حَدَّثَهُ أَنَّ عُمَرَ حِينَ

طُعِنَ قَالَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ فِي الْجَدِّ رَأَيًا فَإِنْ رَأَيْتُمْ أَنْ تَتَّبِعُوهُ فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ «إِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَكَ فَهُوَ رَشَدٌ وَإِنْ نَتَّبِعْ رَأْيَ الشَّيْخِ قَبْلَكَ فَنِعْمَ ذُو الرَّأْيِ كَانَ»  

هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ على شرط البخاري ومسلم
