Malik related to me from Rabia ibn Abi Abd ar-Rahman from Yazid, the mawla of al-Munbaith that Zayd ibn Khalid al-Juhani said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about finds. He said, 'Memorize the characteristics of the object found, then publicise it for a year. If the owner comes, give it to him. If not, then it is your business.' He said, 'What about lost sheep, Messenger of Allah?' He said, 'They are yours, your brother's or the wolf's.' He said, 'And the lost camel?' He said, 'It's none of your concern. It has its water and its feet. It will reach water and eat trees until its owner finds it.' "

أَنَّهُ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ فَقَالَ اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلاَّ فَشَأْنَكَ بِهَا قَالَ فَضَالَّةُ الْغَنَمِ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ هِيَ لَكَ أَوْ لأَخِيكَ أَوْ لِلذِّئْبِ قَالَ فَضَالَّةُ الإِبِلِ قَالَ مَا لَكَ وَلَهَا مَعَهَا سِقَاؤُهَا وَحِذَاؤُهَا تَرِدُ الْمَاءَ وَتَأْكُلُ الشَّجَرَ حَتَّى يَلْقَاهَا رَبُّهَا

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik, from Rabiah ibn Abi Abdur Rahman, from Yazid, a client of Al-Munba'ath, from Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani, who said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about al-Luqatah (lost and found items). He said, "Know its description and its container, then announce it for a year. If its owner comes, give it to him, otherwise it is yours."

ثنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ عَنْ مَالِكٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةِ بْنِ أَبِي عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ عَنْ يَزِيدَ مَوْلَى الْمُنْبَعِثِ عَنْ زَيْدِ بْنِ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيِّ قَالَ جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ؟ فَقَالَ «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلَّا فَشَأْنُكَ بِهَا»

[Machine] Al-Qa'ani narrated on the authority of Malik, who narrated from Rabia ibn Abi Abdul Rahman, who narrated from Yazid, the freed slave of Munnabith, who narrated from Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani. He said, "A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about al-Luqatah (lost and found items). The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Verify its description and mark, and then recognize it for a year. If its owner comes, return it to him. If not, then it is yours.'"

[Machine] Al-Qa'nabi narrated from Malik who narrated from Rabiah ibn Abi Abdur-Rahman who narrated from Yazid, the servant of al-Munba'ith, who narrated from Zaid ibn Khalid al-Juhani who said: A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about Luqatah (lost property). He said: "Identify its container and its string, then describe it for a year. If its owner comes, then give it to him, otherwise, it is yours."

[Machine] A man came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked him about "lukata" (a lost item). He said, "Recognize its strap and its tied knot, then describe it for a year. If its owner comes, give it back to him, otherwise, it is yours."

جَاءَ رَجُلٌ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَسَأَلَهُ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ فَقَالَ «اعْرِفْ عِفَاصَهَا وَوِكَاءَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا وَإِلَّا فَشَأْنُكَ بِهَا»

[Machine] A man asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about Luqata (lost and found items), so he said, "Announce it for a year, then recognize its description and features, then spend it. If its owner comes, give it back to him." Abu Abdul Rahman told us, and this hadith was narrated from Ismail bin Umayyah from Rabee'ah from Abdullah bin Yazid from a man sent with another wording.

أَنَّ رَجُلًا سَأَلَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ فَقَالَ «عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً ثُمَّ اعْرِفْ وِكَاءَهَا وَعِفَاصَهَا ثُمَّ اسْتَنْفِقْ فَإِنْ جَاءَ صَاحِبُهَا فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ» قَالَ لَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَقَدْ رُوِيَ هَذَا الْحَدِيثُ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ أُمَيَّةَ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ يَزِيدَ عَنْ رَجُلٍ مُرْسَلٍ بِلَفْظٍ آخَرَ

[Machine] He heard Zaid bin Khalid Al-Juhani, the companion of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , saying: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about picking up gold or silver. He said, 'Acquire knowledge about its markings and specifications, and then identify it for a year. If it is not recognized, then spend it and let it be a trust with you. If its seeker comes one day, return it to him.' This narration is mentioned in Sahih from the Hadith of Sulaiman bin Bilal.

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ زَيْدَ بْنَ خَالِدٍ الْجُهَنِيَّ صَاحِبَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ سُئِلَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَنِ اللُّقَطَةِ الذَّهَبِ أَوِ الْوَرِقِ فَقَالَ اعْرِفْ وِكَاءَهَا وَعِفَاصَهَا ثُمَّ عَرِّفْهَا سَنَةً فَإِنْ لَمْ تُعْرَفْ فَاسْتَنْفِقْهَا وَلْتَكُنْ وَدِيعَةً عِنْدَكَ فَإِنْ جَاءَ طَالِبُهَا يَوْمًا مِنَ الدَّهْرِ فَأَدِّهَا إِلَيْهِ أَخْرَجَاهُ فِي الصَّحِيحِ مِنْ حَدِيثِ سُلَيْمَانَ بْنِ بِلَالٍ

A man came to Messenger of Allah ﷺ and asked about Al-Luqata (a fallen thing). The Prophet ﷺ said, "Recognize its container and its tying material and then make a public announcement about it for one year and if its owner shows up, give it to him; otherwise use it as you like." The man said, "What about a lost sheep?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "It is for you, your brother or the wolf." The man said "What about a lost camel?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why should you take it as it has got its water-container (its stomach) and its hooves and it can reach the places of water and can eat the trees till its owner finds it?"
