[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and when a person came to him and asked him, he said, "O Prophet of Allah, how should I say when I ask my Lord?" He said, "Say, 'O Allah, forgive me and have mercy on me and guide me and provide for me, and enclose all of my hand except for the thumb, and He said, 'these will gather for you the good of your worldly life and your Hereafter."  

أحمد:٢٧٢١١حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ وَإِذَا أَتَاهُ الْإِنْسَانُ يَسْأَلُهُ قَالَ يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ كَيْفَ أَقُولُ حِينَ أَسْأَلُ رَبِّي؟ قَالَ قُلْ اللهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَاهْدِنِي وَارْزُقْنِي وَقَبَضَ كَفَّهُ إِلَّا الْإِبْهَامَ وَقَالَ هَؤُلَاءِ يَجْمَعْنَ لَكَ خَيْرَ دُنْيَاكَ وَآخِرَتِكَ

" O Allah, grant me pardon, have mercy upon me, protect me, provide me sustenance," and he collected his fingers together except his thumb and said: It is in these words (that there is supplication) which sums up for you (the good) of this world and that of the Hereafter.

when a man had come to the Messenger of Allah (saas), he heard him say: "O Messenger of Allah, what should I say when I ask of Allah?" He said: "Say: Allahumma-ghfirli warhamni wa 'afini warzuqni (O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, keep me safe and sound and grant me provision)," and he held up his four fingers apart from the thumb and said: "These combine your religious and worldly affairs."  

ابن ماجة:٣٨٤٥حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَنْبَأَنَا أَبُو مَالِكٍ سَعْدُ بْنُ طَارِقٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ

[Machine] He heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying: When a person comes to him and says, "O Messenger of Allah, how should I supplicate when I ask my Lord?" He said: Say, "O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, guide me, provide for me, and let me use the four fingers (of the hand) except the thumb, as they gather your worldly life and your hereafter."
