[Machine] I sat in a gathering with twenty companions of the Prophet ﷺ , and among them was a young man with a pleasant face, captivating eyes, and beautiful voice. Whenever they differed in something, they would seek his opinion, and he would give a decisive statement. This young man was Mu'adh bin Jabal. The next day, I came and found him praying near a banner. He raised his voice with a recitation from his prayer, and then he became silent. I said, "By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah." He asked, "For Allah's sake?" I replied, "Yes, for Allah's sake." He said, "Then surely, those who love each other for the sake of Allah will be in the shade of Allah on a day when there is no shade except His shade." Then, he added, "They will be given chairs of light, and the prophets, the truthful, and the martyrs will envy them for their gathering with their Lord." I also narrated this conversation to 'Ubada ibn As-Samit, and he said, "I will only narrate to you what I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ ." My love for those who love me is justified, and my love for those who visit me is also justified, as well as my love for those who spend on me and my love for those who remain in contact with me. There is some difference of opinion regarding whether the term "those who remain in contact" refers to those who visit or those who remain in touch.

[Machine] I entered the mosque of Hims and saw a circle in which there were thirty-two men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ . Among them was a young man with dark eyes and thick eyebrows. Whenever they disagreed about something, they would ask him and he would inform them, and they would follow his guidance. I asked, "Who is this?" They replied, "This is Muadh bin Jabal." I then went to pray, intending to address some of them, but I could not speak to any of them. They left, and the next day when I entered, I saw Muadh praying by himself. I prayed beside him, and when he finished, I sat between him and the pillar. I remained silent for an hour, neither speaking to him nor being spoken to. Then I said, "By Allah, I love you for the sake of Allah, not because of any worldly gain or kinship between us." He asked, "For what reason?" I replied, "For the sake of Allah, the Most Blessed and Exalted." He then spread his wings and said, "Rejoice, if you are sincere, for I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Those who love one another for the sake of Allah will be seated on pulpits of light on the Day when there will be no shade except His shade. They will be envied by the Prophets and the martyrs.'" "Then I left," Ibn Mas'ud continued, "and met Ubada bin As-Samit. I informed him about what Muadh had told me, and Ubada said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ narrate from his Lord, the Most Blessed and Exalted, that He said, 'My love is guaranteed for those who love one another for My sake, who advise one another for My sake, who visit one another for My sake, and who spend on one another for My sake. Such people will be on pulpits of light and will be envied by the Prophets and the righteous.'"

[Machine] "I came to the mosque of the people of Damascus, and there was a circle in which were elderly companions of the Prophet ﷺ and there were young men among them with kohl-lined eyes, with shining blackness. Whenever they differed in something, they would return it to a young lad. I said to a companion sitting next to me, 'Who is this?' He said, 'This is Muadh ibn Jabal.' I came from the evening, but they did not attend. I came again the next morning, but they did not come. I was happy, and suddenly, I saw the young man praying towards a canister. I prayed behind him, and then turned towards him. He greeted, and I approached him and said, 'Indeed, I love you for the sake of Allah.' He said, 'Draw me closer.' He asked, 'How did you say it?' I said, 'Indeed, I love you for the sake of Allah.' He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'Those who love each other for the sake of Allah are upon pulpits of light on the Day when there is no shade except His shade.' [Machine] I entered the mosque of Hims and found around thirty young men from the companions of the Prophet ﷺ. Among them was a young man with dark eyes and radiant complexion, silent and serene. Whenever the people needed something, they would come to him and ask him. I asked my neighbor, "Who is this?" He replied, "This is Mu'adh ibn Jabal." I developed a love for him in my heart and I stayed with them until they dispersed. Then I migrated to the mosque and there I found Mu'adh ibn Jabal standing and praying near a column. He remained silent and did not speak to me. I prayed and then sat down, wrapping myself in my cloak. He sat there silently without speaking to me, and I also remained silent. Then I said, "By Allah, I love you." He asked, "For what reason do you love me?" I replied, "For the sake of Allah the Most Blessed and Exalted." He held my collar and pulled me towards him gently, then he said, "Rejoice! If you are truthful, then I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'Those who love each other for my sake will have pulpits of light, and they will envy the prophets and martyrs.'" He then left, and I met Ubada ibn As-Samit and said to him, "O Abu Al-Walid, I inform you of what Mu'adh ibn Jabal said about those who love each other for the sake of Allah." Ubada replied, "Let me tell you what the Prophet ﷺ said about this. He said, 'By Him in Whose Hand is my soul, your love for the sake of Allah is confirmed. Your love for those you meet and accompany is confirmed. And your love for those you spend money on and support is confirmed. And your love for those you maintain ties with is confirmed.'"

And nothing is better than it." I asked, "May Allah have mercy on you, what is better than it?" He said, "I have heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'My love is worthy for those who love each other for my sake, and my love is worthy for those who frequently visit each other for my sake, and my love is worthy for those who give generously to each other for my sake.' And I do not know with which of them He began." I asked, "Who are you, may Allah have mercy on you?" He said, "I am 'Ubada ibn As-Samit'. And this is a authentic chain of narration according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs (Al-Bukhari and Muslim) and they did not exclude it." Adh-Dhahabi refrained from discussing it in his summary.

[Machine] He said, "In the shade of Allah on a day when there is no shade except His shade, and then he said, "In His remaining place, there is no doubt that they will be given chairs of light, and the prophets, the truthful ones, and the martyrs will envy them in their gatherings with their Lord, the Blessed and Exalted." I conveyed this to Ubada bin As-Samit and he said, "I do not narrate to you except what I heard from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, that he said, "My love for those who love each other is confirmed, as well as my love for those who spend on each other, my love for those who sincerely befriend each other, my love for those who visit each other, and my love for those who maintain contact with each other." Shu'bah expressed doubt regarding those who maintain contact and those who visit each other.
