[Machine] Bashir, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ told me, and his name in the pre-Islamic era was Zahm ibn Ma'bad. He emigrated to the Messenger of Allah and asked him, "What is your name?" Zahm replied, "Zahm." The Messenger of Allah said, "No, rather your name is Bashir." So his name became Bashir. Abu Shayban, who is Aswad ibn Shayban, narrated the hadith and said, "I grabbed his hand and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, by my father and mother, I do not seek revenge against Allah.' So he mentioned the hadith and said, 'O companion of the two Sabtis, drop your two Sabtis.'"

[Machine] Bashir, the messenger of Allah ﷺ, narrated to me, and his name in the pre-Islamic era was Zahm bin Ma'bad. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ asked him, "What is your name?" He responded, "Zahm bin Ma'bad." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "You are Bashir (meaning bearer of glad tidings)." So his name became Bashir. He said, "While I was walking with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he said to me, 'O son of a noble! Why seek revenge against Allah? You have become someone who walks with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.' So I said, 'I do not seek revenge against Allah for anything. Every good has been done by the Prophet of Allah.' Then he went to the graves of the polytheists and said, 'These people were preceded by many good deeds.' He repeated this statement three times. Then he went to the graves of the Muslims and said, 'These people have attained much good.' He repeated this statement three times. While he was walking, he cast a glance and saw a man walking among the graves wearing sandals. He said, 'O wearer of the two sandals! Woe to you! Throw away your sandals.' So the man looked, and when he recognized the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he took off his sandals and threw them away.
