[Machine] Ruwaifibnu Thabit said, "During the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ , we used to raid [enemies]. One of us would take the other's camel, with the understanding that he would get half of the spoils. Sometimes, one of us would get the vessel [for drinking water], while the other would get the sword and feathers [of the enemy]." Ruwaifibnu Thabit continued, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, 'O Ruwaifib, it is possible that you will live a long life, so inform the people that whoever trims his beard or imitates the non-Muslims, or performs istinja (cleansing after using the bathroom) with animal bones or bones, has disassociated himself from what Allah has revealed to Muhammad ﷺ .'"  

أحمد:١٦٩٩٥ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاَقَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ عَيَّاشِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ شِيَيْمِ بْنِ بَيْتَانَ قَالَ كَانَ مَسْلَمَةُ بْنُ مُخَلَّدٍ عَلَى أَسْفَلِ الْأَرْضِ قَالَ فَاسْتَعْمَلَ رُوَيْفِعَ بْنَ ثَابِتٍ الْأَنْصَارِيَّ فَسِرْنَا مَعَهُ مِنْ شَرِيكٍ إِلَى كَوْمِعَلْقَامَ أَوْ مِنْ كَوْمِ عَلْقَامَ إِلَى شَرِيكٍ قَالَ فَقَالَ

رُوَيْفِعُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ كُنَّا نَغْزُو عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَيَأْخُذُ أَحَدُنَا جَمَلَ أَخِيهِ عَلَى أَنَّ لَهُ النِّصْفَ مِمَّا يَغْنَمُ قَالَ حَتَّى إِنَّ أَحَدَنَا لَيَطِيرُ لَهُ الْقِدْحُ وَلِلْآخَرِ النَّصْلُ وَالرِّيشُ قَالَ فَقَالَ رُوَيْفِعُ بْنُ ثَابِتٍ قَالَ لِي رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَا رُوَيْفِعُ لَعَلَّ الْحَيَاةَ سَتَطُولُ بِكَ فَأَخْبِرِ النَّاسَ أَنَّهُ مَنْ عَقَدَ لِحْيَتَهُ أَوْ تَقَلَّدَ وَتَرًا أَوْ اسْتَنْجَى بِرَجِيعِ دَابَّةٍ أَوْ عَظْمٍ فَقَدْ بَرِئَ مِمَّا أَنْزَلَ اللهُ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ ﷺ

Ruwayfi' said: Any one of us would borrow a camel during the lifetime of the Prophet ﷺ from the other, on condition that he would give him half the booty, and the other half he would retain himself. Further, one of us received an arrowhead and a feather, and the other an arrow-shaft as a share from the booty. He then reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: You may live for a long time after I am gone, Ruwayfi', so, tell people that if anyone ties his beard or wears round his neck a string to ward off the evil eye, or cleanses himself with animal dung or bone, Muhammad has nothing to do with him.
