[Machine] He said, "I saw the wanderer sniffing his clothes, so I asked him, 'Why are you doing that?' He replied, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ saying, 'There is no ablution except with water or by hearing the sound of running water.'"  

أحمد:١٥٥٠٦ – حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ لَهِيعَةَ عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَمْرِو بْنِ عَطَاءٍ حَدَّثَهُ

قَالَ رَأَيْتُ السَّائِبَ يَشُمُّ ثَوْبَهُ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مِمَّ ذَاكَ؟ فَقَالَ إِنِّي سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا وُضُوءَ إِلَّا مِنْ رِيحٍ أَوْ سَمَاعٍ

"I saw Sa'ib bin Yazid sniffing his garment, and I said: 'Why (are you doing) that?' He said: 'I heard the Messenger of Allah say: "No ablution (is needed) unless there is an odor or a sound." (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 516)
