"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a man is asking me to sell him something that I do not possess; Shall I sell it to him?' He said: 'Do not sell what is not with you."' (Using translation from Ibn Mājah 2187)
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ يُطْلَبُ مِنِّي الْمَتَاعُ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي أَفَأَبِيعُهُ لَهُ؟ قَالَ لَا تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ
Hakim asked (the Prophet): Messenger of Allah, a man comes to me and wants me to sell him something which is not in my possession. Should I buy it for him from the market? He replied: Do not sell what you do not possess.
يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ يَأْتِينِي الرَّجُلُ فَيُرِيدُ مِنِّي الْبَيْعَ لَيْسَ عِنْدِي أَفَأَبْتَاعُهُ لَهُ مِنَ السُّوقِ فَقَالَ لاَ تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ
"I said: 'O Messenger of Allah, a man is asking me to sell him something that I do not possess; Shall I sell it to him?' He said: 'Do not sell what is not with you."'
قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ يَسْأَلُنِي الْبَيْعَ وَلَيْسَ عِنْدِي أَفَأَبِيعُهُ قَالَ لاَ تَبِعْ مَا لَيْسَ عِنْدَكَ
