[Machine] An Arab came to the Prophet ﷺ and pledged allegiance to him on Islam. The next day he came, looking disheveled, and said, "O Messenger of Allah, give me some of your wealth." The Prophet refused. He came to him for three consecutive days, each time saying, "O Messenger of Allah, give me some of your wealth," and each time the Prophet ﷺ refused. When he left, the Prophet ﷺ said, "Verily, Medina is like a furnace that purifies its impure and retains its good."

Yahya related to me from Malik from Muhammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jabir ibn Abdullah that a Bedouin took an oath of allegiance in Islam with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. A fever befell the Bedouin at Madina. He came to the Messenger of Allah, and said, "Messenger of Allah, release me from my pledge." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ refused. Then he came to him again and said, "Release me from my pledge." The Messenger of Allah may Allah bless him and grant him peace, refused. Then he came again and said, "Release me from my pledge." He refused. Then he came again and said, "Release me from my pledge." He refused. The Bedouin left and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Madina is like the blacksmith's furnace. It removes the impurities and purifies the good."

But the Prophet ﷺ refused. He came to him again and said, 'Release me from my pledge.' But the Prophet ﷺ refused. They asked about him and they were told that he had left. So the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'Medina is like a furnace that removes its impurities and purifies its good.'"
