I offered the ʿIsha' prayer behind Abu Huraira and he recited, "Idha s-samaa'u n-shaqqat" (84) and prostrated. On my inquiring, he said, "I prostrated behind Abul-Qasim (the Prophet) (when he recited that Sura) and I will go on doing it till I meet him."

صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ الْعَتَمَةَ فَقَرَأَ {إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَسَجَدَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ قَالَ سَجَدْتُ خَلْفَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ بِهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ

Once I prayed the ʿIsha' prayer with Abu Huraira and he recited, "Idha s-samaa'u n-shaqqat" (84) and prostrated. I said, "What is that?" He said, "I prostrated behind Abul-Qasim, (the Prophet) (when he recited that Sura) and I will go on doing it till I meet him."

I saw Abu Huraira reciting Idha-Sama' un-Shaqqat and he prostrated during its recitation. I asked Abu Huraira, "Didn't I see you prostrating?" Abu Huraira said, "Had I not seen the Prophet ﷺ prostrating, I would not have prostrated."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ ؓ قَرَأَ {إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَسَجَدَ بِهَا فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ أَلَمْ أَرَكَ تَسْجُدُ قَالَ لَوْ لَمْ أَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ لَمْ أَسْجُدْ

I offered the ʿIsha' prayer behind Abu Huraira and he recited Idhas-Sama' Un-Shaqqat, and prostrated. I said, "What is this?" Abu Huraira said, "I prostrated behind Abul-Qasim and I will do the same till I meet him."

صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ الْعَتَمَةَ فَقَرَأَ {إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَسَجَدَ فَقُلْتُ مَا هَذِهِ قَالَ سَجَدْتُ بِهَا خَلْفَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ فِيهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ

I said the night prayer along with Abu Huraira and -as he recited:" When the heaven burst asunder," he performed prostration. Isaid to him: What prostration is this? He said: I prostrated myself (on this occasion of recital) behind Abu'I-Qasim (Muhammad. may peace be upon him), and Iwould go on doing this till I meet him (in the next world). Ibn 'Abu al-A'la said: (Abu Huraira uttered this: ) I would not abandon performing prostration.

صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ صَلاَةَ الْعَتَمَةِ فَقَرَأَ { إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا فَقُلْتُ لَهُ مَا هَذِهِ السَّجْدَةُ فَقَالَ سَجَدْتُ بِهَا خَلْفَ أَبِي الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ بِهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ وَقَالَ ابْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُهَا

I saw Abu Huraira performing prostration (while reciting this verse: )" When the heaven burst asunder." I said to him: Do you prostrate yourself (while reciting) i? He said: Yes, I saw my best Friend ﷺ prostrating himself on (the recital of this verse) and I shall continue prostrating till I meet him. Shu'ba asked: Do you mean (by Friend) the Messenger of Allah ﷺ? He said: Yes.

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَسْجُدُ فِي { إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ} فَقُلْتُ تَسْجُدُ فِيهَا فَقَالَ نَعَمْ رَأَيْتُ خَلِيلِي ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ فِيهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ قُلْتُ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ نَعَمْ

I offered the night prayer behind Abu Hurairah. He recited Surah Inshiqaq ("When the sky is rent asunder") and prostrated himself. I asked him: What is this prostration ? He replied: I prostrated myself on account of this (surah) behind Abu al-Qasim (i.e. the Prophet). I shall continue prostrating on account of this till I meet him.

"I prayed Isha' prayer- meaning Al-'Atamah behind Abu Hurairah and he recited: 'When the heaven is split asunder' and prostrated during it. When he had finished praying, I said: 'O Abu Hurairah, (this is) a prostration that we are not used to.' He said: 'Abu Al-Qasim ﷺ did this prostration and I was (praying) behind him, and I will continue to do this prostration until I meet Abu Al-Qasim.

صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ صَلاَةَ الْعِشَاءِ يَعْنِي الْعَتَمَةَ فَقَرَأَ سُورَةَ { إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ } فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا فَلَمَّا فَرَغَ قُلْتُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ هَذِهِ يَعْنِي سَجْدَةً مَا كُنَّا نَسْجُدُهَا قَالَ سَجَدَ بِهَا أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ وَأَنَا خَلْفَهُ فَلاَ أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ بِهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَى أَبَا الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ

[AI] I saw Abu Huraira prostrating when the sky split, and he was asked, "You prostrate in a chapter (surah) where prostration is not done?" He replied, "Indeed, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in it."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَسْجُدُ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقِيلَ لَهُ تَسْجُدُ فِي سُورَةٍ مَا يُسْجَدُ فِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ «إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا»

[AI] I saw Abu Hurairah prostrating when the sky split open, so I said, "O Abu Hurairah, I see you prostrating when the sky splits open." He replied, "If I had not seen the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in it, I would not have prostrated."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَسْجُدُ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقُلْتُ يَا أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ أَرَاكَ تَسْجُدُ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقَالَ «لَوْ لَمْ أَرَ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَجَدَ فِيهَا لَمْ أَسْجُدْ»

أَبُو هُرَيْرَةَ وَرَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا يَعْنِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ

[AI] I saw Abu Huraira recite "When the sky is split open" [Surah Al-Inshiqaq, verse 1], and then he prostrated. I said, "Did I not see you prostrating?" He replied, "If I did not see the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in it, I would not have prostrated."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ سَجَدَ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ قُلْتُ تَسْجُدُ فِيهَا قَالَ إِنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَجَدَ فِيهَا

[AI] I saw Abu Huraira prostrating when the sky split, so I said, "You are prostrating in a surah in which we do not prostrate." He said, "Indeed, I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in it."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ سَجَدَ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقُلْتُ سَجَدْتَ فِي سُورَةٍ مَا نَسْجَدُ فِيهَا قَالَ إِنِّي رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا

[AI] "He said, 'I prayed with Abu Hurayrah on top of this mosque, and he recited, 'When the sky splits open, and He prostrates in it.' And he said, 'I saw the Messenger of Allah ﷺ prostrating in it.'"

أَنَّهُ قَالَ صَلَّيْتُ مَعَ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ فَوْقَ هَذَا الْمَسْجِدِ فَقَرَأَ إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا وَقَالَ رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا

[AI] "I saw Abu Hurairah prostrate during the occurrence of the splitting of the sky. So, I asked him and he replied, 'I prostrated in it (the sky) to my beloved, ﷺ , and I will continue to prostrate until I meet him.'"

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ سَجَدَ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ قَالَفَسَأَلْتُهُ فَقَالَ سَجَدَ فِيهَا خَلِيلِي ﷺ وَلَا أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ

عَنْ أَبِي رَافِعٍ قَالَرَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ يَسْجُدُ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقُلْتُ أَتَسْجُدُ فِيهَا؟ فَقَالَ نَعَمْ رَأَيْتُ خَلِيلِي يَسْجُدُ فِيهَا وَلَا أَزَالُ أَسْجُدُ فِيهَا حَتَّى أَلْقَاهُ قَالَ شُعْبَةُ قُلْتُ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ

[AI] I saw Abu Huraira prostrate during the splitting of the sky, so I said, "Did I not see you prostrate in it?" He said, "If I did not see the Prophet ﷺ prostrate in it, I would not have prostrated."

رَأَيْتُ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ سَجَدَ فِي إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَقُلْتُ أَلَمْ أَرَكَ سَجَدْتَ فِيهَا؟ قَالَ لَوْ لَمْ أَرَ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ سَجَدَ فِيهَا لَمْ أَسْجُدْ

Yahya related to me from Malik from Abdullah ibn Yazid, the mawla of al Aswad ibn Sufyan, from Abu Salama ibn Abd ar Rahman that Abu Hurayra recited al-Inshiqaq (Sura 84) to them and prostrated in it. When he had finished he told them that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had prostrated in it.

أَنَّ أَبَا هُرَيْرَةَ قَرَأَ لَهُمْ إِذَا السَّمَاءُ انْشَقَّتْ فَسَجَدَ فِيهَا فَلَمَّا انْصَرَفَ أَخْبَرَهُمْ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ سَجَدَ فِيهَا

أنه قال صليت وراء أبي هُرَيرة فقرأ { إذا السماء انشقت} فسجد فيها وقال رَأَيْتُ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ يسجد فيها أبو الغيث واسمه سالم مولى مطيع عَن أبي هُرَيرة
