The Messenger of Allah (May peace be upon him) came upon a date on the road; he would not take it for fear of being a part of the sadaqah. (Using translation from Abū Dāʾūd 1651)   

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَمُرُّ بِالتَّمْرَةِ فَمَا يَمْنَعُهُ مِنْ أَخْذِهَا إِلَّا مَخَافَةُ أَنْ تَكُونَ صَدَقَةً

" عَنْ أَنَسٍ: أَنَّ النَّبِىَّ ﷺ كَانَ يَمُرُّ بِالتَّمْرَةِ فَمَا يَمْنَعُهُ أَن يَأَخُذهَا إِلَّا أَنْ يَخَافَ أَنْ تَكُونَ صَدَقَةً ".  

"إِنَّى لأَرَى الثَّمَرَةَ فَمَا يَمْنَعُنِى مِنْ أَكْلهَا إِلَّا مَخَافَة أَنْ تَكُون مِنْ ثَمَرِ الصَّدَقَةِ".
