that the Prophet ﷺ said or he said Abū al-Qasim said, "˹Start˺ fasting ˹the month˺ upon seeing it (the moon), and break ˹fasting the month˺ upon seeing it. If it is hidden for you (as a result of an overcast at the start of the month), then complete thirty days of Shaʿbān."

قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ أَوْ قَالَ قَالَ أَبُو الْقَاسِمِ ﷺ «صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُبِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا عِدَّةَ شَعْبَانَ ثَلاَثِينَ۔»

Whenever you sight the new moon (of the month of Ramadan) observe fast. and when you sight it (the new moon of Shawwal) break it, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ إِذَا رَأَيْتُمُ الْهِلاَلَ فَصُومُوا وَإِذَا رَأَيْتُمُوهُ فَأَفْطِرُوا فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَصُومُوا ثَلاَثِينَ يَوْمًا

Observe fast on sighting it (the new moon) and break (fast) on sighting it (the new moon), but if the sky is cloudy for you, then complete the number (of thirty).

أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ قَالَ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعَدَدَ

Observe fast on sighting it (the new moon) and break it on sighting it. But if (due to clouds) the actual position of the month is concealed from you, you should then count thirty (days).

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمِّيَ عَلَيْكُمُ الشَّهْرُ فَعُدُّوا ثَلاَثِينَ

Observe fast when you see it (the new moon) and break fast when you see it (the new moon of Shawwal), but when (the actual position of the month is) concealed from you (on account of cloudy sky), then count thirty days.

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمُ الشَّهْرُ فَعُدُّوا ثَلاَثِينَ

: "The Messenger of Allah said: 'Fast when you see it and stop fasting when you see it, and if it is obscured from you (too cloudy), then count it as thirty (days).'"

[AI] The messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Verily, Allah ﷻ has made these crescents (moon) as timings for the people. Fast when you see it and break your fast when you see it again. If it is cloudy for you, then complete the count (of days in the month)."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ جَعَلَ هَذِهِ الْأَهِلَّةَ مَوَاقِيتَ لِلنَّاسِ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْغُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا الْعِدَّةَ

[AI] "The Prophet ﷺ said: Fast when you see the new moon and break your fast when you see it. But if it is cloudy for you, then complete the month as thirty days. And the month should be like this and like this and like this and tie it securely."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «لَا تَصُومُوا قَبْلَ رَمَضَانَ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ حَالَتْ دُونَهُ غَيَابَةٌ فَأَكْمِلُوا ثَلَاثِينَ»

أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قال إذا رأيتم الهلال فصوموا وإذا رأيتموه فأفطروا فإن غم عليكم فصوموا ثلاثين يوما

[AI] The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Fast when you see it (the new moon) and break your fast when you see it. But if it is obscured from you, then complete the count of thirty (days). He ﷺ also said, holding up his hand, "The month is like this and like this," meaning twenty-nine or thirty days."

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَأَتِمُّوا ثَلَاثِينَ وَقَالَ بِيَدِهِ الشَّهْرُ هَكَذَا وَهَكَذَا يَعْنِي تِسْعًا وَعِشْرِينَ

"The Messenger of Allah said: "The Messenger of Allah said: Do not fast before Ramadan. Fast when you see it and stop fasting when you see it, and if clouds prevent you from seeing it, then complete Thirty (Days)."' (Using translation from Nasāʾī 2130)

قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ وَأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَصُومُوا ثَلَاثِينَ

[AI] He heard Ibn Abbas say that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ commanded us to fast upon sighting the crescent moon and to break our fast upon sighting it. But if it is cloudy and we are unable to see it, then we complete the thirty days.

أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقُولُ أَمَرَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ أَنْ نَصُومَ لِرُؤْيَةِ الْهِلَالِ وَنُفْطِرَ لِرُؤْيَتِهِ فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْنَا أَنْ نُكْمِلَ ثَلَاثِينَ

"الْهلالُ (صُومُوا) لرؤْيَتهِ، وأَفْطِرُوا لرُؤْيَتهِ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيكُمْ فَأَكْمِلُوا الْعِدَّةَ ثَلاثينَ".

"جَعَلَ اللَّه ﷻ الأَهِلَّةَ مواقيتَ للناسِ؛ فصوموا لرؤْيتِهِ، وأَفطِرُوا لرؤْيَتِهِ؛ فإِن غُمَّ عليكُمْ فَعُدُّوا ثلاثين يومًا".

"صوموا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وأَفْطِرُوا لرُؤْيَتِهِ".

"صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وأفطِرُوا لِرُؤيَتِهِ، فإِنْ غُمَّ علَيكمْ فأكملوا شَعْبَانَ ثَلاثينَ".

"صُومُوا لرُؤْيَتِه، وأَفْطِرُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وانْسكوا لَهَا، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيكُمْ، فَأَتِمُّوا ثَلاثِينَ، وإِنْ شَهَد شَاهِدَانِ مُسْلِمَانِ؛ فَصُومُوا وأَفْطُروا فأَتِمُّوا ثَلاثِينَ".

"صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَتِهِ، وأفطِرُوا لِرؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيكمْ فَاقْدُورُا".

"عَنِ ابْن عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ الله ﷺ صُومُوا لِرُؤْيَة الْهلالِ، وَأَفْطِروُا لرُؤْيَتِهِ، فَإِنْ غُمَّ عَلَيْكُمْ فَعْدُّوا ثَلاِثِينَ، قُلْنَا: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ! أَوَلا نَتَقَدَّمُ قَبْلَهُ بِيَوْمٍ أَوْ يَومِينِ فَغَضبَ وَقَالَ: لا".
