[Machine] Abdullah, how disliked are death and poverty, and by Allah, I do not care which of them I have been tested with, whether it is wealth, which contains mercy, or poverty, which contains patience.  

الطبراني:٨٥٠٥ – حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ حَفْصٍ السَّدُوسِيُّ ثنا عَاصِمُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ ثنا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ حَبْتَرٍ قَالَ قَالَ

عَبْدُ اللهِ يَا حَبَّذَا الْمَكْرُوهَانِ الْمَوْتُ وَالْفَقْرُ وَايْمُ اللهِ أَلَا إِنَّ الْغِنَى وَالْفَقْرَ وَمَا أُبَالِي بِأَيِّهِمَا ابْتُلِيتُ إِنْ كَانَ الْغِنَى إِنَّ فِيهِ لِلْعَطْفِ وَإِنْ كَانَ الْفَقْرُ إِنَّ فِيهِ لِلصَّبْرِ

[Machine] Abdullah said, "How excellent are the disliked things of death and poverty! By Allah, it is only wealth or poverty, and I don't care which one I am afflicted with. If it is wealth, it is for generosity, and if it is poverty, it is for patience."

"عَنِ ابْن مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: حَبَّذَا المَكْرُوهَاتُ المَوْتُ وَالفَقْرُ، وايمُ اللهِ مَا هُوَ إلا الغنَى والفَقْرُ، وَمَا أُبَالِى بأَيَّهِمَا ابْتُديتُ لأنَّ حَقَّ اللهِ في كُلٍ مِنْهُمَا، وأحب أن كَانَ الغِنى إِنَّ فِيهِ العَطْفَ، وَإنْ كانَ الفَقْرُ إنَّ فِيهِ الصَّبْرَ".
