[Machine] Abdullah said, "How excellent are the disliked things of death and poverty! By Allah, it is only wealth or poverty, and I don't care which one I am afflicted with. If it is wealth, it is for generosity, and if it is poverty, it is for patience."  

الزهد لأحمد:٨٤٧ – حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا الْمَسْعُودِيُّ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ بَذِيمَةَ عَنْ قَيْسِ بْنِ حَبْتَرٍ قَالَ

قَالَ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ حَبَّذَا الْمَكْرُوهَانِ الْمَوْتُ وَالْفَقْرُ وَايْمُ اللَّهِ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا الْغِنَى أَوِ الْفَقْرُ وَمَا أُبَالِي بَأَيِّهِمَا ابْتُلِيتُ؛ إِنْ كَانَ الْغِنَى فِيهِ لِلْعَطْفِ وَإِنْ كَانَ الْفَقْرُ أَنَّ فِيهِ لِلصَّبْرِ

"عَنِ ابْن مَسْعُودٍ قَالَ: حَبَّذَا المَكْرُوهَاتُ المَوْتُ وَالفَقْرُ، وايمُ اللهِ مَا هُوَ إلا الغنَى والفَقْرُ، وَمَا أُبَالِى بأَيَّهِمَا ابْتُديتُ لأنَّ حَقَّ اللهِ في كُلٍ مِنْهُمَا، وأحب أن كَانَ الغِنى إِنَّ فِيهِ العَطْفَ، وَإنْ كانَ الفَقْرُ إنَّ فِيهِ الصَّبْرَ".
